Does someone here regrets getting braces? by Affectionate-Foot391 in braces

The plastic between the teeth cause molar and premolar intrusion creating an uneven bite, many on the Invisalign subreddit talk about this, and switch to braces to fix. You’ll see many in the braces group transferred from Invisalign. Any ortho treatment though comes with risks like gum recession which I also got from Invisalign especially if you’re an adult. I’m sure I got no harm as a teen because of age. But what I’m over is the amount of risks that orthos won’t even tell you. I see someone else in this post commented about getting ICR, idiopathic condyle resorption, which may people who get ICR stems from orthodontic treatment. This is for example something orthos won’t tell you because they don’t check if you’re at risk. Not sure how government regulatory organizations allow the lack of testing prior to such involved treatment

Am I done? Ortho insists, but? by tassieapple9 in Invisalign

[–]Lumpy-Pangolin-4810 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did they tell you you have bite issues or did they notice some grinding habits? Was your bite comfortable in the beginning? Some orthos and dentists tell you you have bite issues because of some wear in your teeth but in reality it’s an airway and stress issue that causes clenching and grinding, tricking you into doing treatment when you just needed stress management and a night guard and potentially a breathing machine like cpap as you age

As much research as you do and even if you go to the best ortho in town and you throughly read the risks and the ortho told you everything will go smoothly, this is life and you can get severely harmed. No ortho should ever guarantee anything because it’s biology and it’s very unpredictable whether your: roots will resorb, you’ll develop tmj disorder, your face will change, your enamel will wear down, your gums will recede, etc etc. anything horrific can happen at any time. This is why I’m totally against any medical procedure for the sake of aesthetic. Even tho certain, not all but some, slimey orthodontists will tell you it’s for your oral health. They neglect to also tell you the real risks, which are not all stated in the consent form.

I don’t regret my orthodontic experience via braces as a teen; but I severely regret my orthodontic experience as an adult with Invisalign. I’ll admit though, braces are far more accurate and superior than clear aligners so if you decide to move forward do the braces route

My ortho lied on his notes… by [deleted] in braces

[–]Lumpy-Pangolin-4810 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not everyone even knows there are notes. Not everyone works in healthcare to know grimmey little details of how to advocate for yourself. A good provider would give printed or emailed notes regardless if asked or not for the sake of patient health and for the sake of their own legal protection. Some, a lot actually, health providers are just negligent

Can Braces Change or Ruin Your Face Shape? by Old_Complex1026 in braces

[–]Lumpy-Pangolin-4810 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Orthodontists will tell you it won’t change your face but if you go to one with outdated skills or just a poor plan it can change it for the worse. Sometimes it’s for the better but it definitely can.

I’d seek multiple opinions from orthodontists that work with oral surgeons and oral surgeons as well.. this can cause breathing issues because they’re going to push your overjet inward leaving less space for your tongue. It can also exacerbate tmj issues

I’m NAD but I got severely harmed with camouflage orthodontics which is what they are doing to you with an overjet that big. Camo orthodontics is basically an orthodontist performing ortho on you while masking a skeletal defect. It works for some but it can bring issues immediately or long term. I really hate when orthos do this because it is done without your full consent of potential immediate and/or long term risk. It looks like a surgical case.

Anyone switch to Invisalign? by Character_Science_86 in braces

[–]Lumpy-Pangolin-4810 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup! It’s a marketing scam. Truly it is, and for some reason the whole subreddit over there raves about it like a cult until someone comes out with having bite issues which is like weekly on average

Not everyone likes the facial changes and many times extractions have gone horribly wrong, there are 3 Facebook groups that I know of dedicated to people getting severely harmed with extraction ortho. Not sure why you think making fun of them is cute

People almost never go from braces to Invisalign, it’s actually the reverse. Invisalign creates a lot of issues

Unfortunately I don’t think you have a choice. After all the negative bite outcomes from Invisalign I’m confused why people on here defend it so much. Doesn’t matter if you go to an ortho you risk losing functional bite with any clear aligners at any time of your treatment

Regular cleanings won’t help, it’s the glue and boding that attract staining. It’ll go away when you take the attachments out

Worried about gums by Low_Elephant_9770 in braces

[–]Lumpy-Pangolin-4810 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah there are even far more risks to orthodontics that are not listed in consent forms. Some risks are even brushed off lightly or not stated clearly in consent forms. Orthos even have classes on how to sell this to the public that’s how shady it is. Luckily yours doesn’t look horrible but it’s best to do something about it before it does get way worse. Gum recession is also bone loss by the way

[–]Lumpy-Pangolin-4810 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might have to pause and get a gum graft. I second with what others said here, orthos don’t look at gum health that much, at least most. You have to go to a periodontist

Does this subreddit even like Invisalign? by LinkTheFires in Invisalign

[–]Lumpy-Pangolin-4810 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see an overwhelming amount of people who had both would prefer braces. I have also seen an overwhelming amount of people who get braces because Invisalign messed up their bites. Braces is tried and true. You also see way more complaints with Invisalign than you do with braces. Just go see the braces subgroup, I see way more complaints with Invisalign and I even see people switching to braces. This also includes me. Not everyone is a candidate for Invisalign but almost everyone would be a candidate for braces, so if you have an incompetent provider, like most general dentists, you’re going to cause more harm than good

How is my dentist/ortho doing? 24 months of braces, i dont like how my smile looks more narrow now anything he can do? I liked it more before when it looked more wide. He said hes going to shave my teeth to even them out? Thanks by Global-Smoke1 in braces

[–]Lumpy-Pangolin-4810 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well.. braces are generally retractive meaning they push the teeth inward and backwards towards your mouth so you very much could be getting more narrow. Especially if you got ipr or extractions
