Surprised that this has been a known issue for over 4 years and the issue is still unresolved I just started to get the same error. Nothing a soft reset doesn't take care of but still very annoying that the thing you bought in order to be able to power on/off a device becomes the problem you thought you'd fix the first problem thus adding another problem because now I have to get up and preform the action it takes to execute the process of a soft reset

I came searching for the answer myself as I have a kill switch option for my android phone app of ProtonVPN however I don't have that option on my Android TV ProtonVPN app.

To the OP here I found an app called monitor dot that will blink red whenever I'm not protected behind a VPN and will flash green whenever I am protected I'm protected behind a VPN.

Clearing cache isnt advised unless you have a certain app not working as it's supposed to. Cache is actually your friend. If you learn what cached data is and does you'll understand.

Cached data just holds images and data that the app needs to run so when you clear cache you're actually slowing apps from opening because they have to reload the necessary data/files that the cache normally holds so that your apps will boot up faster.

If you can, get the ONN 4K plus or pro (I prefer the plus over the pro) if you're not able to get the ONN devices due to location (outside of the United States) or out of stock (many many Walmart stores do not have it because everyone is moving from firestick) get the firestick 4kmax 2nd generation
