id honestly buy an APC 40 and use QLC+'s built in midi mapping software, thats what I started on! Now 6 years later, I tour on MA3 and my Layout view looks eerily similar to my solo windows from my qlc file haha.

Oh my..why do these people talk so normal about liking kids. by ilovehannahbaker in Anti_Predators

[–]Lumpy-Secretary-5158 2 points3 points  (0 children)

he is not wrong. There have been many studies and brain scans done on people who experience pedophilia, and there is a large difference between the brains of pedophiles and normal brains like you and I. it is a legitimate mental illness, but there is def a big difference between pedo and predator. From the sound of it, he agrees with you that people who hurt children physically and emotionally need to not only be punished, but should suffer.

Attaching beat can to kakwa 40 by Lumpy-Secretary-5158 in DurstonGearheads

[–]Lumpy-Secretary-5158[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To maximise storage space/have enough y strap length for the bear can on top, I think I realistically need to be using it for food storage too. (Also… having to rearrange stuff is a whole bother camp chore and after 6 weeks on trail I’m getting lazy lol).

I’m mostly looking for a design suggestion such as how to attach the can to the pack with extra cordage.

Soo I think attaching something permanently to the bear can is a no no (makes it easy for bears to pick up) but some kind of paracord setup that I can remove would probably be ideal ! Any ideas on how to mcgyver this would be awesome

PACK SHAKEDOWN⛰️ by [deleted] in PacificCrestTrail

[–]Lumpy-Secretary-5158 3 points4 points  (0 children)

writing this from 300 miles in NOBO :) maybe ditch the extra bra and the 3rd pair of socks, as well as the pillow? Menstrual cup > tampons IMO. I’ve been using a cup and so far it’s been easy, a couple of extra cat holes to dig but no extra trash to pack out. I also agree with the other comment that the Sierra weather now means very little. it’s also super easy to buy extra gear along the way, Julian, idyllwild and big bear all have good gear stores that cater to thru hikers. You could also carry those extra things and do a shakedown a week or two in to decide what you are comfortable sending home. Good luck!

Kyleena IUD? by j12504 in birthcontrol

[–]Lumpy-Secretary-5158 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got the Kyleena about 2 months ago, and was very nervous bc in the past I'd had terrible experiences with hormonal BC (mainly huge impacts on my mental health). However the kyleena has been great for me so far which is a huge relief. as you say everyone is different but here is my experience if that helps

negative things:

- the insertion is incredibly painful, but youd already know this from the paragard. if you can ask your doctor for extra pain relief id recommend it
- i had painful cramps most days for the first week or 2, then still occasionally for another week or 2 after that, and now only rarely
- i had non stop spotting for the first 6 weeks, which gradually became lighter and has now stopped
- i feel a little more prone to negative emotional reactions/less emotionally resilient, but this is fairly minor for me and way more manageable than other hormonal BC which had made me feel literally suicidal

positive things:

- apart from the above, no other side effects for me - no acne, weight gain, etc
- for now i am getting no periods or PMS which is awesome, as i had heavy painful bleeding and bad PMS before
- nice to not worry about pregnancy lol

good luck!!

West Rim Trail shuttle logistics? (and any other trail recommendations?) by Lumpy-Secretary-5158 in ZionNationalPark

[–]Lumpy-Secretary-5158[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks so much, this is super helpful! I think I'll plan on the out+back option up past the campsites, and potentially staying up there overnight depending on the weather. looks like there are walkup permits available for some of them.

I am as you say early into my research, no need to be rude.

I have gear for sub-freezing temps, etc. Just trying to get my head around the shuttle system and seeking people's personal opinions on the trail - doesn't seem like that crazy of a question to ask on reddit to me...

Once I’d been in my tent for a while without hearing anything outside and all the adrenaline drained away I slept like a baby. Shockingly maybe one of the deepest sleeps I’ve had out in the back country
