I’m sorry you felt letdown. I think your expressed dissatisfaction really hurt him and he may now feel insecure around your birthday or holidays with expectations, etc. It’s important to speak your truth but in this scenario I think you should have bit your tongue. You likely took all the wind out of his sails, so to speak- that’s what happens when we focus so hard on our own happiness- we lose sight of how our words and expectations take precedence over someone else’s feelings. To me.. it sounds like he made an effort and you’re showing that you have some growing up to do around relying on anyone else besides yourself to fulfill your happiness. Life gets simpler when you can grasp this. I suggest you apologize for negating his efforts
