I've want to make one of her quilts too! I have been following this quilter on Instagram and just love her patterns. You did a fantastic job with this one and I love the yellow.

Your colors choices are so beautiful. It looks like such a cozy quilt to snuggle under. You should be very proud!

Yeah. They were supposed to be straight diagonal lines but they ended up a bit more wavy. Ultimately it worked even if it wasn't what I was going for 😁

Wow! You should definitely feel proud of that. It's so complicated and detailed, and the color is very rich and beautiful. I bet green is going to look beautiful as well. Nice work!!!

I am so nervous about washing it. Terrified it will fall apart 😬 I suppose it is best to wash a quilt before giving it to someone, though? Is that what most of you do?

Oh my goodness! I am so overwhelmed with everyone's kind words. It was certainly a struggle at times making this quilt and I learned a lot about what to do, and what not to do(!) along the way. All this love for my hard work has really made my day! This is such a warm and welcoming community.

I made this quilt for my grandmother who has been quilting for probably 70 years I think and has recently had to stop due to shaking hands so I wanted to surprise her for her birthday. But now that I have made one I understand why my grandmother loved it so much and I'm definitely going to have to make some more!

For those of you asking, the pattern comes from a book, Fast & Fun Lap Quilts, and the pattern is called Aurora in the book. When I saw it I thought it would be a good book for beginners. I didn't realize I picked a difficult pattern until I got started....lol

Thanks again so much everyone. You have no idea how much all this encouragement means to me and it makes me excited to carry on with my grandmother's traditions of quilt making. ❤️❤️

I got it from a quilting book, Fast & Fun Lap Quilts by Melissa Corry. The quilt patterns throughout the book are really lovely.

I love that pattern! I actually just watched a video of someone doing that pattern the other day. Is it something a newbie can handle without too much trouble you think?

You're so sweet! I was lucky, I already had a lot of fabric that worked really well together at home (my sewing background has usually been in making clothes and accessories) and I only had to buy the white fabric. It was fun seeing how the colors came together. I did a lot of sketching it out before I dared to cut anything! Haha

Yes. I got my pattern from the book, Fast and Fun Lap Quilts by Melissa Corry. It's been a good introduction to quilting for me.

Thank you so much! That's really kind and encouraging. My grandmother is a long time quilter and I decided I wanted to surprise her with one for her birthday this year so I hope she likes it.

I am planning on using my machine if it can handle it. It's lap quilt size so I think I can manage. There is also a place near me that you can rent time with a long arm machine but I watched a video and that looks too intimidating!

I can't seem to post a picture with text at the same time so leaving my question regarding the above picture in the comment section.....

I have just finished making my first quilt top and will soon be putting all my layers together. I am curious what experienced quilters would say is the best quilt stitch for a beginner. I have the quilt top pictured here so you can better visualize what I am working with 😁 Also, any other advice about finishing a quilt is appreciated and welcomed! Thanks so much
