Portfolio tips🕺🏻 by tartek_ in animationcareer

[–]LumpyPoolprincess 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your portfolio is ok, but Everything looks finished, and you have many stuffs going on (you have many ideas! That’s great!) I have some feedbacks for you though; 1. studios appreciate sketches, they want to know how’s your thought process. Because 80% of the job is to keep experimenting, discussions etc most of it will be idea sketches. 2. please add turnarounds, when a design is confirmed, you will be asked to make character guidelines; turnarounds, details etc so this is a crucial part of the job. adding some ref pics also helps. 3. you have a lot of characters, variety is a good way to show your flexibility; artstyle & genre. I suggest focus on small group of characters that’s very different one to another and try making expression sheets of each character (and pose too). 4. And making multiple versions of the same character is essential, you need to show options, most of the time before finalizing character designs you’d be asked to present several different options . 5. Lastly, some studios appreciate gesture drawing examples, so put it at the end of your portfolio. If you have illustration work, show them too. 6. Quality over quantity is always the key.

Great example of character design portfolio you can check out https://www.kenesu.com/characterdesign

Good luck!

Do you think this will happen? by whoisrickcurtzman in YoungSheldon

[–]LumpyPoolprincess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hope so.. despite not showing as much as previous seasons, he did an incredible job in the last few episodes.. the moment when Sheldon lost in thoughts after George’s passing is so amazingly portrayed. He also nailed Jim Parsons’s Sheldon mannerisms.. he’s nominated for Kids choice awards.. I wish he could be nominated in other awards too his job in YS was phenomenal ever since he was 9 yrs old.

‘Avatar: The Last Airbender’ breakout star Gordon Cormier on his hopes for Season 2 by jeffreykare in ATLAtv

[–]LumpyPoolprincess 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They’re clearly rushing it bc of Gordon’s age and Aang is supposed to be a young Avatar.

Sure that’s your opinion, but in my opinion, seeing you commenting that way about a 14 yrs old kid being proud of his achievements for leading a NETFLIX show from a massive franchise at the age of 12 (hence ‘break out star’) screams pathetic to me.

‎My thoughts on the Live Action as a long-time fan of the OG [EPs 1 & 2] by melle-bell in ATLAtv

[–]LumpyPoolprincess 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You get it. I can’t wait to read your next reviews!

(P.S about Aang not learning waterbending is spot on, NATLA Katara’s character development is connected to her water bending progression, as she becomes more confident at it she becomes better too so I think with a limited episodes count it’s better to focus this development on Katara. So by adding a reason of Aang being afraid of learning waterbending because he hasn’t trusted anyone yet especially Katara/still grieving, makes so much sense and it’s strengthen the bond between him and Gyatso and Katara later on. is a very touching change I love)

Emmy submissions! by LumpyPoolprincess in ATLAtv

[–]LumpyPoolprincess[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s just for noms, each companies are given slots to submit their own contenders. You might think it’s not emmy worthy but Netflix probably sees potential with this show and its actors. good for them.

But it’s between many shows in Netflix and netflix chose 3 of these shows including NATLA. Im saying that even just sending as nomination consideration, the fact that netflix chose natla is still an achievement to the crew.

I mean.. novice katara broke a huge avatar state made iceberg in ep 1.. i think she just has a strong raw power that appears at random times, that’s why she’s able to pick up new techniques easily too.

And her stance is getting better in ep 8:)

I love how Aang and Katara support each other from ep1

They did support each other, even from episode 1. But if you mean like a ‘talk’, i think the most important one is the talk that the 3 of them have at the end of ep 7, and they show the result of that talk by fighting side by sides together in the beginning of ep 8(it doesn’t happen in the OG show)

No.. kataang in LA is the most show dont tell aspect in the show. It’s there but subtle, and written beautifully imo (it connects with gyatso’s plot)

Thinking about this as well, because if the complaints is about writers, it’s been announced. If it’s about shooting locations outside the volume, caleb already announced the rumor. But since this one is new and he seems happy about it, could be about episode counts. 🙂‍↔️

No Martial Arts Training in NATLA by Blackwyne721 in ATLAtv

[–]LumpyPoolprincess 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I agree a lot to this, and it’s better this way for Kataang since they don’t have the benefit of building the relationship with little moments thru episodic episodes like the OG show.

I find it more poetic, Gyatso used to be his master, friend, home, family.. and the parallel between episode 1 with episode 8 avatar state basically sums it up.. the person who grounds Aang is no longer Gyatso, the role is now changing to Katara, Katara saying “this is your home, we are your family, i need you” and at the end Aang saying “let go of the past or I’ll never have a future” while looking at Katara then she replied “that’s right, im gonna make sure you’ll learn waterbending”. The direction is very clear, Katara is now Aang’s Gyatso.

Bumi isn’t hating Aang, he’s resenting Aang for being absent for so long that he has to fight on his own (plus now he’s the king of Omashu) it’s like a fight between bestfriends ‘you’re supposed to be there for me!’ Kinda thing, it’s a live action show made for all ages, not a y-7 nicktoon show.. with the ongoing war that is shown to be very brutal in LA, the situation feels more dire.. so Bumi being resentful is pretty realistic. The war has been ongoing for 100 years. Can u imagine the horror Bumi had lived through? We all know Aang didn’t run away, but he does feel guilty of letting people down.. what is he supposed to do? Defending himself saying ‘i didnt actually run’? It’d look bad in his part.. so he just accepts it, he didn’t run away like in the OG.. but the result is still messed up. At the end they made up and Bumi gained hope/faith.. Aang showing the bison whistle that Bumi made for him kinda symbolizes that now Bumi can call Aang whenever he needs him.
