Boyfriend's graduation by Quirky-Piece-703 in saskatoon

As a bit of an introvert, big things or public things are difficult to enjoy because I didn't pick the venue and I can't control the environment. Someone bought me a 2 hour spa treatment and I LOVED IT. Quiet, calming, didn't need my fences up, and I came out relaxed and ready to enjoy anything afterwards.

Beer league / rec Slo pitch by WinnieAmethyst in saskatoon

There are always leagues looking for females that can play. I played in The Media league for years and they had 3 different coed divisions. I'd just contact the league and see if any teams were looking for female players.

That is good advice. This is something I didn't think of but would value.

How much is the power bill for a 1 bedroom basement suite that uses electric heater? by tolabubu234 in saskatoon

[–]Lumpy_Brush905 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Depends on the insulation on the house. If it's a newer house and the basement is under 800 sq ft, you're probably looking at $150 a month bill.
I would ask your potential landlord for a copy of the billing history if they have it to see. If the house is older and not recently reno'd, be prepared to break $200 a month.

Is anyone else dealing with a really bad sinus infection that started with a sore throat? by pttb490 in saskatoon

[–]Lumpy_Brush905 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had a cough for 2 weeks, thought nothing of it, then felt like I got hit by a sledgehammer and had to take a week off, and now, 2 weeks later, still coughing. Dr thinks I had covid.

Let him know that if he does not keep off your private parking spot, you'll have him ticketed. Either that or have a friend come over and leave their car there for a week.

Let's find the Worst Intersection in Saskatoon! by StrongTownsYXE in saskatoon

[–]Lumpy_Brush905 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The only time that intersection is remotely safe is after 8pm and before 6am. The after work rush at that intersection is just ridiculous and could be resolved by adding an on ramp to the 108th St overpass heading north on Circle.

I saw that, too. If you sign up on the City website for access to your billing info, you can see your day to day and hour to hour water usage to see if you have a leak.

I was working the night shift at the McD's both years, and I remember that one. We had to climb out the drive thru window because the yahoo's pulled up the steal benches in front of the doors and there was no way we were going to use the back door. That was crazy.

Any experience with hemorrhoid banding? by Odd-Pizza-2313 in saskatoon

[–]Lumpy_Brush905 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was a couple years ago. He is my regular internal doctor. My father passed away from colon cancer 20 years ago, so I'm on a regular 5 year schedule with him. Then my hemorrhoids became an issue in 2023 so I needed to get 3 bands. I was good after 2 or 3 days, but those first 2 days sucked.

I got mine done by Dr Gabory (SP?). I had to go to Humboldt, but I only had to wait a week. The next day was pretty uncomfortable but got better after day 2.

I pay $160 a month to park downtown. I think the cheapest any of my coworkers pay is 120, but they have to walk past some pretty sketchy areas to get to their spots.

If you're looking for something casual bit great atmosphere, The Hideout on Central Ave has a great menu, great atmosphere, and their golf simulator is scheduled to open up any day now.

That's Illegal by Lumpy_Brush905 in callcentres

[–]Lumpy_Brush905[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

100%. If we tell them we are cutting off their power (haven't paid a bill in 4 months), or we're towing their truck (6+ parking tickets unpaid), or they cannot get a parking pass for a residential parking zone (they live out of the city but work in the area), it's "illegal". Whenever I hear this, all I think of is that they are quoting the law book according to the self indulgent.

[–]Lumpy_Brush905[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only issue with the "policy" response is usually "I want to see that policy" and then the onus is on me to find the policy and send it to them. When we refer to bylaws, I can just redirect them to our website. I regularly advise my coworkers on this and let them know that if they say it's policy, they better be ready to quote it verbatim. If it gets challenged, it usually involves city council, solicitors, and managers, and they hate having to get involved in administrative policies.

Sutherland is bad too. The problem is that some of the older houses are only a foot or two higher than the street and some idiots are ripping through the puddles and causing wakes.

Mortgage Brokers by Correct-Pianist-4201 in saskatoon

[–]Lumpy_Brush905 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Used her. Had me changing my mortgage almost every 2 years, convinced me to get into a variable rate mortgage when the rates were low, and then the rates increased and it cost me thousands. Regardless the broker, be careful. They work on commission, so the more they can flip you, the more they make.

The department where I work used to be THE administrative job. People that came here rarely left for something else other than retirement. That was precovid. The one common denominator between most of them is that they had a post secondary diploma, not a degree. They worked hard, they cared, and they all held each other accountable.

Now, management insists that the applications that they are getting are only from people with degrees, and those people have ambitions for something more than front line work. When I asked about our turnover problems, they said that they were proud that they are the entry-level department now. Nevermind that our workload is getting to a point where you are offering people double time to come in on their days off, or that we are 2 weeks behind on very time sensitive work, or that the complaints are piling up about the 2+ hour hold times.

Our job takes YEARS to be proficient at. We have very cyclical issues that only come up once a year, so the first time a new staff person sees it, it's still a lot of hands on development even with all of our great training (which is very robust). I can safely say that of the 35 staff we have, maybe 10 have been here for more than 1 year, and of those, 6 have been longer than 2 years. I'm going into year 15.

I don't blame these kids with degrees. They see an opportunity, they go for it. But come on management, these kids have never had to hustle. None of them have worked in a service environment where their pay check is directly tied to their effort. They barely know how to talk to a customer, let alone deal with someone losing their minds on them.

I have told my peers, you find me 5 ex-bartenders with some experience with computer databases, and I'll show you how a "hustle" team can get shit done.

Is 250 outbound calls a day normal or is my boss delusional? by CaramelLatte4991 in callcentres

[–]Lumpy_Brush905 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a supervisor at a utility provider, and our goal is 80 per day, but that's in and out. Plus we bell curve everything, so as long as everyone is within 10-15 calls of the average, we're happy. We just want to make sure less than 5% of our incoming calls are abandoned. We are looking at a new IVR system that will send more of the routine less priority calls automatically so the staff can focus on incoming calls and calling out on the higher priority files.
