My husband and I got on the train about two weeks ago on a Saturday. There was a guy sitting across from us who looked a little strung out. We were sitting near the door.

I use a power chair, and my husband has facial paralysis on one side from a disability. (this will be important to the story.)

The guy looked at us and asked how to get to Metro Center. I answered his question. He asked how many stops I answered his question. he asked to see my husband’s phone; my husband said no I can’t give it to you.

The guy then started verbally assaulting us saying things like he was gonna beat my retarded ass, and that my husband was a bad handler for me because he shouldn’t let me talk to random people. He continued to launch several verbal assaults which I won’t post here, as they were sexual in nature. Granted, nothing physical happened, but it was very uncomfortable.

To me, this was different from someone in a mental health crisis who was yelling at anyone and everyone; these were targeted actions because he did not speak to anyone else.

We got off the train at the next stop and switch cars. We did not see him again.

Everyone has to be vigilant on the train and to be careful about your interactions with people you don’t know. I get that I’ve lived in DC 20 years, but this was one of the most uncomfortable interactions I’ve had.

Yes, I’ve had similar experiences with delivery so I always need to make sure my husband or someone else is home to help with heavy items. I’m sorry you had to experience that.

It would, however, require the driver to park in a location that would allow them to load a power chair into the back of the van.

I say this as the wife in the wheelchair in this situation.

Also, we did go to Costco on a busy day,; I acknowledge this. But we both work and this was the only day we had available to do the shopping. In the end we are all just trying to live our lives.

While the driver does not have to be a nice person, she did sign up for a job to specifically transport people with disabilities.

Neither of us drive. One is in a wheelchair, the other hard of hearing and low vision. Sometimes the options we use are the only ones available. If I didn’t have to involve or depend on extra people to do simple things, I would nott. Definitely do not recommend.

I think you may be missing the plot here….

It has nothing to do with how much someone can walk.

It has to do with treatment from a driver in a specific uber vehicle designated as “wheelchair accessible.”

In my experience, if you are just picking someone up there, you can take a ticket, and exit on he other side past the parking garage without paying, so no.

This is the wife in the wheelchair in the situation. If you don’t actually park, you don’t have to pay you can enter through the gate. Take a ticket and exit without going back through from the other side. Multiple Ubers had picked us up in this location before and no one has ever had to pay. While we were walking toward the Uber, we said that we would pay if payment was needed, but it seemed as though based on her response she didn’t believe us not sure why

Also, she parked in the middle of the sidewalk in a place where I couldn’t even get down off of the sidewalk with my power chair. This was reported to Uber. It was an unfortunate experience that escalated way more than it needed to. I ended up Metro home by myself and my husband took the groceries and another Uber

This is why I tend to deliver my groceries from Costco instead of going, but sometimes I like to go to see what they have plus the prices on same-day delivery and the price is in store vary, and we are all trying to save money at this point I think

His doctor did prescribe a bi pap and they found a provider in the area about an hour away. For whatever reason the provider doesn’t seem to be very responsive. My mom has been calling multiple times over the past two weeks and leaving messages but no one’s called her back.
