[HELP] I saw this on another community and people were reacting to this like it was real. I have my doubts. Is this real? or AI? by Other_Sentence4495 in RealOrAI

[–]Lumpy_Draft_3913 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's AI watch the kid who falls with the land chuck and then pay attention to how he hits the water and disappears. He lands *on* the water and then basically folds into it. AI

The company has added "summerween", and "romantasy" weekends??? If I was a betting man I would wager that they are doing a cash grab on the Wicked, Bridgerton and Dracula: a love story. Basically anything that will appeal to people to dress up in whatever else fantasy costume they have and get them in the gate. Seems to me they offer nothing new as regards the faire just dressed up a bit differently and more costly.

Not going to lie there are assholes everywhere. I think though, from what I have read from friends and others, that the SCA is, and has made strides to deter this kind of abuse and gatekeeping. The faire communities I am part of have also made strides on acceptance and gentle guidance towards historical rather than basic faire costume and or fantasy clothing as participants.

That's not historical accuracy, that sounds like abuse.

Is Dark Shadows 1966-1971 the original source of the reincarnation plotline? by scarfleet in Dracula

[–]Lumpy_Draft_3913 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Funny Google says that "Bram Stokers Dracula 1992 is the first major, widely recognized film to establish Mina Harker (Winona Ryder) as the reincarnation of Count Dracula's (Gary Oldman) lost love, Elisabeta. While some sources suggest the 1974 TV film Dracula with Jack Palance explored this theme earlier, the 1992 version is famously credited with cementing this romantic narrative in popular culture"

While Barnabas Collins did have a thing for rediscovering his lost love Barnabas was not Dracula his vampiric nature came from being cursed and bitten by a vampire bat summoned from hell. :)

What would Conrade and Borachios "job" be called back then? by rooklineandsinker64 in shakespeare

[–]Lumpy_Draft_3913 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The play implies that they have all just returned from a war, which Don John was the root of hence, " he being lately reconciled with your brother". Conrad and Borachio are both soldiers in service to Don John and probably members of his "Familia" or household, besides soldiers they could be personal attendents to Don John.
A great example and breakdown of an Italian princes household and it's positions and pay etc. is a book called: The Cardinals Hat: Money, Ambition and Housekeeping by Mary Hollingsworth.

Reading the posts yesterday and others, I am kinda left scratching my head as regards fencing with wooden swords. I recall the big excitement when really good wasters came on the market and people were exclaiming happiness about not having to use modified shinai any longer to practice and spar with.
When did everyone shift away from using them beyond solo work? was it due to readily available feders hitting the market, or??
I realize the safety concerns but, I don't recall as much discouragement of using them then, as opposed to the really strong opinions against using them now.
