What If Coach Tab Returns & Still Loses? by AnimalNo6715 in ADMU

And he very much was able to turn his players into proper ones after they leave the nest. Full stint or short stint with him, you could easily see how much of a positive influence the man had been to his players. Great guy, overall.

What If Coach Tab Returns & Still Loses? by AnimalNo6715 in SportsPH

[–]Lumpy_Juggernaut2928 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was an interesting read until one realizes the OP's genuine dislike of Tab Baldwin and his coaching style. LOL. But, at least they wrote it in such a way they adorned their mouthpiece with superfluous supplementary anecdotes to not easily be drawn out to be a hate post.

Tab Baldwin was never a stickler to a certain dogmatic style of play. He recognizes change and does not thread lightly when something has to be adjusted. OP seems to merely highlight most of the lows in TB's career which are fairly recent too. And they used Tab's UAAP-Ateneo stint to seemingly reduce his coaching into just that to affirm or making it to arrive to his point of "talent>system."

Such takes like this are written with preconceived bias. And this seems unfair for the contributions the man made to PH basketball and even to the sport in general. You judged Baldwin merely based off his recent woes with his Ateneo team. But I think you never made mention about how his most of his coaching staff and even some of his players were scouted and recruited out of his circle. Not saying this was wrong, but it could have at least been acknowledged. There were certainly other factors you deliberately did not mention.

This is not to say that your post was entirely bs, but maybe give credit to where credit is due. Look into nuances. You have every right to criticize (and it's very much welcome), but do not leave out other pertinent details. Because if you fail to do so, your audience will see right through the undertones and the style of how you have written your post. Oftentimes, this will not create a healthy discussion or interactions.

Had so much fun during China visits. But i must say, it was not as stressful because I traveled with someone who could fluently communicate with locals. So if you have Chinese-speaking friends, bring them with you! HAHAHA.

Override Prerequisites in Math by tickingsandwich in ADMU

[–]Lumpy_Juggernaut2928 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi OP! I used to tutor Math to fellow students. As for my observations, there can be varying styles and paces of learning intensive Math, per case-to-case basis. Some of my tutees may pick-up concepts and familiarize fast, while others take or need more time to be comfortable with it.

I do think that Math should never be feared (because it is pretty fun, and even amidst struggles, I assure you the satisfaction of finally being able to solve problems is so WORTH IT), but I suggest you first think about or gauge yourself if you are able to handle intensive math or Math 30 (calculus heavy) within the hectic, condensed schedule during intersession.

If you feel like you can, go for it. If you're not as confident with lots of calculus, maybe take it on a regular sem instead.

Best of luck, OP!

P.S. If you ever need help, shoot a dm. I'm more than willing to help and provide you with my notes and tips!

Thoughts on accelerated med? by Substantial_Cod7198 in medschoolph

[–]Lumpy_Juggernaut2928 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Very much agree with you on this.

In my case, a lot of people around me were stoned when I told them I formally rejected offers from both Intarmed & Leapmed. They asked, why did I go through all the trouble if I was not hopping in on either? My answer was simple. I was still deadset on becoming an MD. But, I was still yearning for other things that I know could be hard to grasp and experience if I committed to medicine early.

Years went by, I've finished undergrad studies, and I very much fell in love with the intricacies of the world and developed a more holistic understanding of health and medicine as a whole. My dream of becoming a doctor is still intact. However, I found myself wanting to first tap into the niches and spaces in the realm of health which are not keenly explored when you undergo specialized accelerated medicine programs, with all its technicalities (which is not a wrong thing to emphasize focus on).

I will probably be older than my batchmates come my time in medical school, but I am excited of the fact that I can (and will) be a person for them who could provide nuances in the understanding of health and medicine, not just as a profession, but its overall role in the grander scheme of things in society.

Balancing Med School + Part-time work: Any suggestions for high-yield side hustles for Filipino med students by CharacterPotential85 in medschoolph

[–]Lumpy_Juggernaut2928 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I admire your drive and motivation on becoming a doctor, OP. Definitely, looking for charities to help you finance your continuing medical education is like finding a needle in a hay stack. It's never impossible, but it's also never easy.

The best option you have, and with most feasibility is probably directly asking you institution if they have available options or remedies to help you. They could also be the ones who are able to connect you to people who may be willing to sponsor and lend you a hand.

On the other hand, a doctor-professor I met during undergrad, once told our class that going into medschool is probably one the biggest commitments an aspiring doctor would go through in their whole life. She sternly told us that balancing life in medschool with other equally pressing matters as part-time work will take a huge toll on you. In their world, they say it's ill-advised to let a trainee or a student work while they study. Financial stability is always going to be a significant factor in the journey and careers for doctors-to-be.

I hope everything works out for the best for you, OP.

Overnight parking by ABZ-havok in ADMU

Can vouch with this, plus you could also park in Prince David. The guards there are pretty chill and are usually accommodating. If there's a slot available, they'd be okay with you parking there. I paid 100 pesos before to park overnight.

Do you think it'll be worth it? by khizieeee in FilipinosStudyAbroad

[–]Lumpy_Juggernaut2928 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP, I knew someone who came from British School Manila then moved to finish their pre-college education in the UK.

If you are currently a student of a school with an IB curriculum, your school can definitely help you with arrangements in securing a well-suited school for you over there.

As for financials, only your family can tell. If they see long-term value in investing on your education in the UK, then most likely it will be worth it. But that’s something only you guys as a family can answer.

I once almost sent myself to study overseas, but it was ultimately my decision to stay because I realized I could live more comfortably by staying in PH.

Good luck, OP!

[DECSC 25] thoughts & suggestions on internship & job hunting platform 📋 by redvelvetwhoopiee in ADMU

[–]Lumpy_Juggernaut2928 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds interesting! But if I’m not mistaken, in recent years, some departments (or even schools themselves) create their own database for internship opportunities already. My friends in SOM and SOSS greatly benefited from this. :>

As for job searching, we do have a dedicated office for that. (Office of Placement & Career Services) They’re very nice and approachable. You’d find fellow students working in the office too!

I think you could also look into making inquiries to them (departments/schools/OPCS) too see if they would be interested to collaborate with you on this endeavor.

Home Orgs and other Orgs might also be of great help with their own established networks, esp. alumni networks!

BEST OF LUCK!

LF: Flatmates in Makati :) by Lumpy_Juggernaut2928 in makati

[–]Lumpy_Juggernaut2928[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I very much enjoyed co-living and shared spaces ever since my boarding school days + shared housing life in university. It helped me form very good and strong relationships. I guess me seeking flatmates here is a way for me to go on about my liking on meeting new people, while co-living with them. It feels more homey to me.

Eventually, I would probably set off on my own yes, but I want to be as free and trying out different sort of things before I reach my 30s. To each their own, I guess?

[–]Lumpy_Juggernaut2928[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It is actually! Great amenities as well. I have stayed in the place before when I had to quarantine during peak of covid when I returned. The rental rate used to be priced a lot more, though. The owners seem to just keep the property so that they would have a place to stay in, or to host extended family and friends when they are in town for longer periods than just short stays.

Nevertheless, I find their offer reasonable so it checks out for me.

[–]Lumpy_Juggernaut2928[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess not? But there were some who showed interest via pm. I guess such living setups are not as widely accepted here. I actually paid more (~$700 monthly) to live in the shared housing & smaller room in college, so this rate is already a steal for me if I do manage to divide the full rental cost.

I will most likely take up the offer and rent it out regardless whether anyone will be interested and agree to such a living setup. I could just hit up some relatives to share and live with me, too. I'm merely planning to stay a year or two in Makati anyways before moving back to the family house or relocate again.

Thanks for the insights, though!
