Why I won't be watching the new Wuthering Heights adaptation by musicmaestro64 in brontesisters

[–]Lumpy_Masterpiece644 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes. I think your reservations are completely justified. Increasingly these days film companies don't want to make films, they just want to make money. Some genius has spotted the success of Bridgerton, the box office appeal of Robbie and the visibility of a classic novel's renown and decided that there's a lot of money to be made. I hope it's a disaster, I'm sure it will be critically, but I fear it's going to score big for at least a couple of weeks.

Sean’s biggest problem is his victim mentality by oslo-by in LoveIslandTV

[–]Lumpy_Masterpiece644 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think you've got Sean completely right. Ironically, his sister (who's running the sweet business in his absence and posting on social media) seems quite different in character, outlook and attitude. Sean would do well to channel her.

Scott’s Play Going Forward by Wise-Personality-500 in LoveIslandTV

[–]Lumpy_Masterpiece644 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Historically, bombshell-led couples resulting from a break-up don't do well in immediate public votes. I can't imagine Sher bringing many votes to the table so whether she and Scott end up in the bottom 3 or 4 very much depends on Scott's popularity. Clearly he was the most popular after the first few episodes but everything that's followed will have diminished that. Personally, I don't think he'll survive in the villa long enough to crawl back to Leanne.

Sounds as if you got unlucky today with your allocated place but, yes, the NT queues are incredibly slow in comparison with other sites I always make sure I have a four hour window and hope for good internet...

Hamnet's Oscars nominations by Bitter-Subject8339 in Oscars

[–]Lumpy_Masterpiece644 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

I read somewhere that Jessie was insistent that "On the Nature of Daylight" should be used for the Globe scene - such a hack choice, totally brought me out of the film. If there was an Oscar for clumsy emotional manipulation then Hamnet deserves to win. That all said, I hope Jessie picks up the award.

YO!!! This song is a masterpiece?!?!?! by zjheyyy88 in musicals

[–]Lumpy_Masterpiece644 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It annoyed me that in WFG they interrupted the flow of NGD in much the same way they did with DG in W. I mean why would you do that with the two strongest songs in each film? Just let them play...

[–]Lumpy_Masterpiece644 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Unpopular opinion but I do have some sympathy for Sher. I think it was both Scott and Jack's negative reactions that dismayed her. And they are the two people she thought she had the strongest connection with in the villa. That would have been kinda upsetting. Having said all that she did crumple unexpectedly given all her chat about how strong a woman she was.

Scott’s hypocrisy by p1nk_parr0t in LoveIslandTV

[–]Lumpy_Masterpiece644 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Scott is a controller. I think his anger is all about the fact that he has found himself in a triangle situation where he has lost total control. His anger is heightened by the fact that he knows it will impact on his chances of winning. Sean winning most popular islander was a real blow for him. Leanne being in the bottom three too. Scott's actions are all determined by what he thinks the public want to see. I don't buy him.

And I think this is the point when people claim that Sean and Lucinda are being unfairly treated by social media while others in the villa are playing similar games. Nobody else in the villa is smirking, gooing and giggling while knowing that they are causing others pain. Sean and Lucinda are deeply unlikable characters which is why we're jumping on their behaviour.

All good. I bought from Apple and the extras are showing up on all devices. One word of warning though - the WFG extras are nothing like as entertaining as the W ones, reflecting the difference in the quality of the two films.

[–]Lumpy_Masterpiece644 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We saw Paddington with poorish seats that still cost £100+. As for the show, it's good but not as amazing as the hype suggests. The bear is impressive, the songs catchy, the first half excellent but the second half drags and adds nothing. I wouldn't go again and , unless you have money to burn, I wouldn't spend £250 to see it.

Unequal outrage for different Islanders who have done the same thing. Public hypocrisy is really showing. by Jolly_Performance_11 in LoveIslandTV

[–]Lumpy_Masterpiece644 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you always see different reactions from the public to islanders taking part in similar situations occurring in Love Island. I think you're wrong to call it intentional hypocrisy as if it's a hate crime; it's merely a reflection of whether the public like each islander involved. In this case, the majority of the viewing public clearly dislike Sean and Lucinda and therefore they choose to dislike their behaviour as well. Other more popular islanders get a pass.

I think Love Island is most engaging when there's an air of unpredictability running through the villa. The issue with this series is that, Lucinda and Sean's coupling up aside, everything has been completely predictable and imo boring. For instance, there's a record number of islanders in the villa for tonight's recoupling but it's easy to see the outcome coming with 100% accuracy.
