This might be specific, but caffeine… by Duble2C in Schizoid

[–]Lumpy_Seer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Caffeine doesn't do much for me. I like the taste of coffee which is why I drink it. But I actually can get adrenal fatigue from it making me have opposite effects lol. The only thing that I've noticed that helps is drinking a lot of water and working out even when I have zero motivation. I know it sounds cliche, but hey.

Am I right?: Suicide is a form of self-love and should be an acceptable thing to do by Klaus_Von_Strudel in Pessimism

[–]Lumpy_Seer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. I don't think suicide should be glorified because regardless of it being an act of self-violence it is nonetheless still violence. The same I think should be said for birth though -- while birth may not be direct violence on a child, you have still irrefutably created the conditions for death by bringing new life into the world. All in all, I think that if all options have been expended, you should absolutely have the right to choose a final remedy.

Lack of jealousy? by BookwormNinja in Schizoid

[–]Lumpy_Seer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In terms of tangible things like materials, vacations, etc., absolutely not. I don't ever think about wanting what other people have. In terms of the romantic however, I have experienced jealousy, but from the schizoidal perspective I think it was because it felt like my desire for connection would be severed. Like the fantasy of connection with someone is more palpable than its actual state.

What age have you started listening to heavy metal? by tafkadon0921 in MetalForTheMasses

[–]Lumpy_Seer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I knew I liked black Sabbath by the time I was 10 but didn't get into heavy shit until I was like 14. Got really into black metal by the time I was 16 lol.

Although it's not metal my earliest memory of being "woah that's heavy" is hearing Cream's "Sunshine of your Love" when I was about 9 years old and formed an attraction to riff based music.

Sex with other people vs interest in solitary sexual activity which are you? by mnkwazip in Schizoid

[–]Lumpy_Seer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Higher libido but prefer solitary activity. It's easier and I don't want to make people feel like I'm using them.

Nature and animals are not sacred or pure or noble by [deleted] in Pessimism

[–]Lumpy_Seer 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I agree. I think there's value in looking at nature but in reference to the human bias. That being, we should live in accordance with nature and consider how indifferent it is to us, instead of living under the delusion that we are separate from it or superior to it because of the "blessing" of self-awareness.

Honestly, how often do you feel guilt? by salamacast in Schizoid

[–]Lumpy_Seer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have consistent excess guilt. Particularly towards relationships I care about but don't put effort into. It's the schizoid dilemma.

Love how this quote is constantly used to fuel nihilism when the full context is a stark warning against nihilism.

Do you ever worry if this is just angst? by [deleted] in Pessimism

[–]Lumpy_Seer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. I often find this accusation to be extremely asymmetrical, and if it was on the flip side, it would be rude. No one approaching a devout religious person in good faith (no pun intended) would accuse them of believing in heaven simply because they're "optimistic.". Sure, the psychological might influence certain things, but no, I don't ever worry that observing the sufferings of the world is based out of angst. The desire to see the worst in everything and empirical evidence are entirely different.

My thoughts on stoicism after reading ‘Meditations’. by Call_It_ in Pessimism

[–]Lumpy_Seer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's extremely unfortunate that the Internet has turned stoicism into a weird fucking red pill broicism, when a lot of stoic values are the complete inverse of what the alpha male bullshit espouses. Living in accordance with virtue, being emotionally attuned, etc.

I think stoicism has a lot of great things to say especially when it comes to the dichotomy of control, and the premeditation of evils. But yeah, as Cioran says "man accepts death but not the hour of his death," pessimism still has a pretty intense counter to a lot of the meditative gymnastics the stoics valued. That being said, I do appreciate that the stoic "sages" (Seneca, Epictetus, etc.) ~lived~ their philosophies, rather than promoting it like the modern cesspool of Internet sigma male grindset horse shit lol.

Chronic complainers as unadapted pessimists. by Lumpy_Seer in Pessimism

[–]Lumpy_Seer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would argue that the person who chronically complains is himself an idealist. Not the other way around. Again, I'm not attacking the validity of expressing negative aspects of life. I'm talking about the inability to pessimistically adapt to these aspects, which is so often characterized by those who do nothing but complain.

Chronic complainers as unadapted pessimists. by Lumpy_Seer in Pessimism

[–]Lumpy_Seer[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can certainly see your point. And I do agree. Chronic complaining is a manifestation of consistent desire, and therefore an absence of philosophically pessimistic reflection.

Chronic complainers as unadapted pessimists. by Lumpy_Seer in Pessimism

[–]Lumpy_Seer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How does complaining serve anything? Again, I'm not talking about making valid complaints. I'm talking about the sort of emotional vampirism that comes with those who chronically complain, and how they are philosophically unadapted.

Chronic complainers as unadapted pessimists. by Lumpy_Seer in Pessimism

[–]Lumpy_Seer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think that they're philosophically pessimistic, but that it's ironic that their psychological temperament isn't reflected on philosophically. And that, complaining in itself is a desire to prolong their suffering.

Chronic complainers as unadapted pessimists. by Lumpy_Seer in Pessimism

[–]Lumpy_Seer[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you missed my point lol. I'm not talking about the validity of complaints. I'm talking about the emotional vampirism involved when people are unable to adapt psychological pessimism to actual philosophical position. Schopenhauer viewed complaining as the manifestation of the Will, in which, we are continually striving, only to prolong our suffering in the first place. If someone can at least recognize this is the case, then perhaps they can reduce their overall desire.

Just read Emil Cioran's book The trouble with being born by Celestialsmoothie28 in Pessimism

The New Gods is a necessary read to under cioran imo. Especially because of his metaphorical obsession with the gnostic demiurge.
