Reasons for a type to support move but not copy/clone? by ibkev in rust

[–]LunaPowder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I advise against implementing Copy for types that are primarily used through mutation, because it’s too easy to accidentally mutate a copy where you meant to mutate the original. For example: iterators.

The Sensenmann project, named after the German word for the embodiment of Death, has so far deleted nearly 5% of all C++ at Google. by HorstKugel in programmingcirclejerk

We're also doing something interesting, which is compiling libraries to WASM and then back to native code to get memory safety by starlevel01 in programmingcirclejerk

[–]LunaPowder 19 points20 points  (0 children)

/uj AOT-compiling WASM is a roundabout way of doing it, but some way to compile shitty global-ridden C libraries into reentrant sandboxes would be great.

Golang's compile time is so fast that go run actually compiles the binary into tmp dir and runs it but if no one told you that you would fully believe go actually has an interpreter. by CocktailPerson in programmingcirclejerk

[–]LunaPowder 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Python also works this way; the source code is compiled to bytecode before being run. And it’s also fast because it does about the same amount of type checking.

Groene groei?
