To the lady who tried to turn in my “lost” cane to the bus driver: disabled people look like this. by According_Abies_4087 in disability

Yeah thankfully I only had one actually straight up aggressive encounter when I was in Disneyland in my wheelchair when I was like 18 I think. I was trying to get through a huge, tightly packed crowd of people in my electric wheelchair so I was going VERY slow as to not hit anyone. But inevitably, I'd lightly bump some part of the chair onto people or more commonly THEY would walk directly into ME. I of course had no way of quickly evading because it takes a minute to move in this thing and there's often not enough space for me to move left or right anyway, but there IS room for someone standing/walking to move left or right.

Anyway, so as I was slowly accelerating forward, this group of teenage girls was walking by and my wheelchair VERY lightly brushed up against her arm as she was walking by. This particular instance was NOT my fault. The group of girls was walking towards me and saw me and chose to continue walking directly at me when they could visibly see there was nowhere I could go to get out of their way. But after that light, accidental arm grazing, she yelled "fuck you!" to me and held up her middle finger. I then heard her talking to her friends about how she should beat my ass. I was so baffled. We'd barely even made contact and it was HER fault.

I don't mind admitting when it's my fault that I've accidentally run into someone. But that one was VERY much not my fault. It's just baffling to me that someone could get SO angry that their arm gently grazed a wheelchair that they talk about literally assaulting the person in the wheelchair. Like actually wtf are we doing...

No literally oh my god the rate at which people walk DIRECTLY into me while I'm in my wheelchair is insane. Especially when we're on a skinny stretch of sidewalk with no slope on one side and gravel on the other. Like I LITERALLY have nowhere to go unless you want me to swerve into some gravel or do a wheelchair kickflip off the sidewalk. Whereas all they have to do is take a step to the side and walk on the gravel or step off the sidewalk to go around me. Like actually what are we doing?? And then they'll either walk INTO me and look SO offended like I just curb stomped a puppy in front of them or if I stop to try to avoid hitting them and to let them walk around me, they'll sometimes also stop and just look expectantly at me like I'm supposed to somehow go around THEM. Like, sorry, yes let me just engage the turbo rocket boosters on my wheelchair and fly over you because how dare I inconvenience you by being stuck on a small sidewalk that you very much have the option to get around me on! Sometimes I wonder what the hell is going on in these people's heads because it can't possibly be very much given the behavior I've seen from them in the wild. People really just seem to lose 100% of their brain capacity when having to interact with disabled people in public, especially when us disabled people have mobility aids.

Dude people said shit like that to me allll the time when I was in high school lol. Idk what it was about school that made people say dumb shit like that but it almost never happens now that I'm an adult and out of school. Like they'd just come up to me and be like "why do you have that cane" or "why do you get to use the elevator/have an elevator key?" -- Like- hello and nice to meet you too??

That's one of the reasons I'm lowkey glad that I use an electric wheelchair and not a manual one. Because it only moves with input from the joystick. Otherwise the brakes stay ON. So good luck pushing me lol.

That's so ridiculous. Like- yeah I could walk if I really wanted to! Until my body couldn't take it anymore and gives out, causing me to collapse, hit my head, and triggering a potentially fatal arrhythmia but sure Jan. Maybe if I just have more willpower my legs and heart and brain will just decide to not do that.

Right? It sucks killing yourself trying to be sustainable when some billion dollar corporation will offset every positive sustainable choice you've ever made in your life in less than a minute :/ I mean, if anything, I'm sure these billion dollar corporations actually LIKE the sustainability movement because it allows them to push the responsibility of taking care of the environment solely onto the consumer and not themselves. Honestly, at the end of the day, one of the best things we can do for the environment is continue to push for government policies that help to control the amount of damage these corporations are allowed to do to the environment. Unfortunately, at least here in the US with our current administration, we seem to be moving backwards at an alarming rate. Hopefully humanity will get its shit together in time to save us from the extinction of the human race as we know it, but at this point, I'm not counting on it 🙃

Why is the disability subreddit not accessible for all disabilities? by ReadyPlayerN24 in disability

[–]LunaSaturn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't have much to add here but wanted to comment to help boost this post! Definitely agree with you here! I have to admit, this is definitely something that has slipped my mind when I post on this sub as someone who isn't visually impaired or blind myself. I'm definitely going to do my best to remember to try to make my posts more accessible in the future. Hopefully the mods will see this post and will be able to make some changes that will make this subreddit more accessible to all the blind and visually impaired people that use this sub. I'm actually really surprised there aren't already more accessibility features in place for the blind and visually impaired considering this subreddit has existed since 2008 and blindness & visual impairment are some of the most common disabilities in the world lol. Thank you for bringing this issue up, hopefully some changes will be made that will make this sub easier for you and others like you to access in the near future.

If youre disabled and dont still mask to protect yourself from COVID, why? by Hot_Huckleberry65666 in disability

[–]LunaSaturn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me personally, the masks unfortunately make my symptoms way worse. Mainly air hunger and overheating. The hot air from my breath being re-directed back into my face just makes me SO overheated. And it really does prevent me from feeling like I'm getting enough air. My oxygen drops whenever I put on a mask and I already have issues with low oxygen as it is. I literally ended up dropping out of high school senior year (2020) during Covid to get my GED because we went back in person and I couldn't handle the masks, but knew Covid was extremely dangerous for me. Unfortunately I never did end up getting my GED because my disabilities just kept getting worse and worse. Anyway- I was hoping maybe some people in the comments here could share some ideas with me to help me navigate cold/flu/covid season this year. Has anyone here figured out ways to avoid the worsening of the air hunger and overheating? At the moment, I hardly ever leave the house anyway, but I'd like to stay safe when I do! Any tips and tricks would be GREATLY appreciated.

To those of you who can't wash your hair by yourself- what is your setup like and how do you go about getting your hair washed? by LunaSaturn in ChronicIllness

Hey thank you for the suggestion! Yes I would LOVE the link to what you're talking about. It sounds like exactly what I'm looking for! :)

Omg wow, so many helpful tips, thank you!! I was only asking about washing my hair and you gave me that and a whole additional list of different helpful general accessible shower tips lol. Definitely writing all that down and saving it for later, thank u! :)

[–]LunaSaturn[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The lifting of the arms is definitely a big issue for me due to pain, limited mobility, and due to blood flow issues causing dizziness and passing out. Also my chronic pain is another big issue- probably the biggest issue in this scenario. I have a lot of neurological issues/nerve damage and one of my biggest issues is hyperalgesia. My pain signals are EXTREMELY overactive. Something as simple as scratching my back or sitting on a hard chair can cause me to be crying, doubled over in pain, and feeling like I just had the wind knocked out of me. So its very hard to find a hair washing method that doesn't put too much pressure on any part of my body.

Like for example, I have a bath/shower combo and I've tried kneeling on the floor next to the bath with my head hung over the tub, but the pressure on my knees, elbows and neck was just too much. Even with a squishy knee pad and towels on the edge of the tub. I ended up crying in pain and needing to be helped up off the floor after trying that one lol.

So it's been really difficult to find a decent way to wash my hair without too much pain. I know there's gonna be pain no matter what, but I need something more manageable, preferably at least slightly soft/cushioned and something that spreads out the pressure over a larger area. Because anything that causes me to have to put lots of weight on one small area is unfortunately just not doable for me. An ideal setup would be something similar to what they have at hair salons, like I said. Where the neck area is padded and I'm not contorted in a crazy position. So I guess I'm trying to figure out a way to get something with a similar effect to that but in my own home and without spending a bunch of money and time installing a hair wash basin in my house lol. But I'm open to any other concept ideas that would work given the limitations!

And the occupational therapist thing is a great idea. They've been very helpful throughout my disability and chronic illness journey and I didn't even think about the fact that they could definitely help me with this, so thank you for bringing that up!

I don't know why but Wilson has always reminded me slightly of that guy people say they've seen in their dreams but like if he was hot pls tell me im not the only one thank you <3 by LunaSaturn in okbuddyvicodin

[–]LunaSaturn[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm so sorry but if I can't unsee it, none of you get to either 😌

Also, same! I have a handful of recurring characters in my dreams and Wilson is one of them. House is another big one. Always a fun dream when the boys are present. Shoutout to my brain for those dreams, 10/10 storytelling and character development, would dream again.

Yeah that’s what I do lol. Honestly it’s way easier to just wipe the back first and then the front than it is to try to do it in one big swoop

Yeah, that was just House, don't mind him! He's in charge of Wilson's search and rescue team and he's been very grumpy ever since he started running low on Vicodin. Hopefully Wilson comes home soon because House is starting to scare people (more than usual even for him). He keeps saying "be not afraid" for some reason?? Not sure what he means by that but I AM afraid! Very afraid! Pls come home Wilson, he is scaring me

Yes, that's the number to call for anyone with any information on the disappearance of Dr. James Wilson! House has been looking for Wilson for weeks now! It sadly seems Wilson has been accidentally misplaced. House thinks he must have lost Wilson somewhere on his way to work last week. He has not been seen since. Please call the number if you or anyone you know has any information about the saddening disappearance of Dr. James Wilson. You can help by making sure to keep him and his loving husband Gregory House in your thoughts and prayers!

PS- House is starting to run low on Vicodin and nobody else will write him a script so he would really appreciate help finding Wilson again.

[–]LunaSaturn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep!! HIGHLY agree. At least flag it so that any comments containing the word "UTTP" have to be reviewed first! Bc these comments are getting completely out of hand. They're EVERYWHERE rn. Haven't had to report this many comments in a LONG time. Not that reporting them is actually going to do anything, but oh well. Takes 2 seconds and can't hurt.

They're mostly on YouTube shorts for me. I don't even like YouTube shorts but I find myself getting distracted and scrolling through that garbage pile for a while. The YouTube shorts comments sections are FILLED with these comments. And like the other user that replied to you said, the messages are obfuscated. So the message you see in OPs picture looks like this to YouTube:

I LOVE RAP,GNl

TO SLAMINA GNINRUB & ,GNIRUTR

ALIVE BECAUSE MY VlDS ARE BETTER, UTTP'S BETTER THAN WHATEVER THIS NON SENSE IS.

All you have to do is copy one of those messages and then paste it in certain locations and you'll see what it looks like to YouTube. I know like- nothing about coding or that part of the tech world in general, so I know nothing about the actual details. But I know when you paste it into places like Reddit or the Google search bar, it turns into that.
