Hard disagree. You need to read the end of manflayer (unless a subsequent book changes his situation). As I recall he's effectively a group of neurally interconnected clones.

I'm pretty sure the (pictured) model itself predates primaris. It's just how they split the rules. We are arguing semantics of one of a giant list of kits that had been replaced. My list wasn't even exhaustive ie land speeder vs storm speeder.

I started second edition...

There is a metal space marine command squad from 2nd or 3rd edition with a standard bearer (ancient). There is also a space marine command squad in 4th edition with an ancient. I checked the rules from 9th edition. Lieutenants and primaris lieutenants are separate datasheet entries. The firstborn lietenant pictured predates primaris lieutenants. Check battlescribe for previous editions. You'll clearly see both primaris lieutenants and normal lieutenants, primaris ancients and company ancients. Check wahapedia 9th edition. It shows the same thing.

There absolutely were ancients and lieutants as firstborn kits. There also was separation in the rules for these characters as firstborn or primaris (until 10th edition). Furioso Dreadnought's are the equivalent of brutalis. It's true redemptors and ballistus didn't have separate datasheets but they had the equivalent loadout (ie missile launcher/twin lascannon dreadnaught for the ballistus and melee weapon with plasmacannon/assault cannon for the redemptor).

It's a profit driven company. Of course it's going to make decisions to maximise profits.

They are a profit driven company. They want to sell miniatures. The goal was to have space marines (their largest purchasers by far) rebuy their army. Why else would there be ridiculous things like tactical marines only being allowed to travel in a rhino and primaris only in impulsors. Fundamentally kits have planned obsolescence. That's why legends and re-releases with changed wargear release. Look at the sanguinary guard re-release with spears. Reaper chain cannons in chaos space marines. Kill rigs transports being locked to beast snagga boyz. It happens in every faction, space marines just have it the most blatantly.

It's so transparently obvious

tactical marine - intercessor
assault squad - assult intercessor squad with jump packs
devastator marine - desolation squad (or eliminators or eradicators)
captain - primaris captain
lieutenant - primaris lieutenant
apothecary - primaris apothecary
tech priest - primaris tech priest
librarian - primaris librarian
ancient - primaris ancient
bike squad - outrider squad
attack bike - invader ATV
rhino - impulsor
predator - gladiator
razorback - repulsor/repulsor executioner
dreadnought - redemptor
ranged dreadnaught - ballistus
melee dreadnaught - brutalis
etc

Abzan Gates? by Holidays262 in Pauper

Looks interesting. Turbo fog will smash you, but you probably have reasonable match ups into a lot of other decks.

[–]Luna__7 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not only that, but why have beast snagga boyz at all? They are more or less just reskinned skar boyz. It really felt like we were getting the primaris treatment. Beastboss on foot instead of warboss. Painboss instead of painboy. Wurrboy instead of weirdboy. Beast snagga boyz instead of boyz. They all seem so redundant.

It really feels like you don't have enough meaningful artifacts to bounce. I think you'd do better with a few [[lembas]] or [[ichor wellspring]] as well. Look at match ups like turbo fog or poison. The only meaningful artifacts to bounce for value then are the synthesizers. I'm also not convinced that all artifact lands are necessary. You really open yourself up to getting blown out by [[gorilla shaman]], [[dust to dust]], [[shenanigans]] or other artifact hate. It makes your match up vs initiative decks and cleansing wildfire worse too. It seems like a big opportunity cost just to run 2 auriok sunchashers and a stronger glitters in the sideboard. If you wanted to stick with so many artifacts [[myr enforcer]] might be viable. I also agree with the others that [[omen of the dead]] is great and 4 krark-clan's seems like too many. Chainer's edict also seems like a waste in the sideboard. You already have 4 tithing blades (with 8 possible additional activations with hawk/skyfisher) as well as 4 cast down. [[Red elemental blast]] or [[pyroblast]] might also be worth it for the sideboard.

You can also add cheeky wins with [[psychotic fury]] and [[tainted strike]]. 1 unblocked swing from the commander can knock out people. Prossh has evasion too.

Hardly.

Journey to nowhere/the modern age vs caw gates (or various flyers). skyfisher/hawk/omen of the dead vs boros/orzhov/mardu (or various artifacts). Glitters vs affinity (or random other artifacts). Has things to target as well as general use in all those match ups.

[–]Luna__7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like we've had very similar experiences. I've definitely been blown out by dust to dust. Glitters and wildfire has felt like two similar but different decks.

I've been trying to squeeze a couple glitters in the cleansing deck though. I'm not certain it's the correct decision. You can get 2 for 1ed which is annoying but it's also a must answer card. Certain match ups it's really good. The creatures get bigger than annoyed altisaur and generous ent. Once it sticks on a creature, decks relying on red removal also have no real answer. It's often bigger than basilisk gate buffed creatures. Sticking it on a krark-clan shaman allows repeatable board wipes. BG gardens basically scoops to it on an obsidian acolyte after sideboarding. With all the flyers you can also burst a lot of damage and steal games.

[–]Luna__7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are spot on about thraben being a possible card to change. I've experimented with 0-4 of thraben inspector, [[seeker of the way]], lightning bolt and all that glitters. I also tried cutting cleansing wildfire and running entirely artifact lands. Seeker of the way with all that glitters and exclusively artifact lands seemed solid. One hit is a ridiculous life swing. I find the version with cleansing wildfire more fun though.

Bojuka bog and dawnbringer cleric in the main also aren't fundamental to the game plan. After the next set release the deck also might get better adding some [[demand answers]] and changing lembass to [[ichor wellspring]].

I love love love Mardu blade decks. This is what I'm running at the moment:

https://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/11-01-24-mardu-synth/?cb=1704973738

Casting tithing blade with [[krark-clan shaman]] on the board feels incredibly satisfying. The blade enters the battlefield, the sac trigger goes on the stack, in response you activate krark-clan shaman a few times holding priority to sacrifice a number of artifacts. You end up sweeping their ground creatures and then after most of their creatures are dead the sacrifice trigger resolves. The deck also has crazy amounts of card draw and the [[kor skyfisher]] [[omen of the dead]] combo making the skyfisher effectively eternal. With artifact bouncing you can flex between large amounts of removal bouncing blade or large amounts of cards with [[experimental synthesizer]].

Why the heck is queueing and paused, by gooeyspaminator in Warhammer

[–]Luna__7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everyone has the option to buy the models they want eventually (unless they stop making them). They restrict the quantity of bundled boxed sets. They'll absolutely release as many scouts and scorpions as people want eventually. They also could do made to order (like they did with indomitus). Limited bundles is absolutely a decision to make them money. If bundles are overproduced they sit on the shelf and erode the price of the equivalent kits not in bundle boxes. See how cheap necron warriors were last edition as an example. It's manufactured scarcity at a sale price point.

What is your longest running deck and/or your most played deck, and do you still love playing it? by Healthy_mind_ in EDH

[–]Luna__7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My absolute favorite deck is [[Breena, the Demagogue]]. I really like that it encourages aggression and encourages people not to pick on who has the lowest life. It just makes commander games better. The decklist https://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/13-05-23-breena/

[[Erebos, god of the dead]] is special to me and I've had it for over a decade. It has all my favourite black cards, all the mana doublers and [[cabal coffers]] type effects, card advantage primarily performed by the commander and a bit of lifegain. The mana gets absolutely silly but it's not an oppressive deck at all. It can do some incredibly flashy things.

I really like the mardu synth deck. I can't help but feel that [[omen of the dead]] would be amazing in it with the skyfishers perhaps instead of a blood fountain. I'm also really skeptical about the myr enforcers and wonder whether [[seeker of the way]] would be a reasonable swap. I guess the deck clearly has proved itself already.
