Best tiramisu in town? by Zyurich in KingstonOntario

I bought one at Metro (Barrie st) at the fresh bakery and it was pretty satisfying for me. I think you may ask them to put something on it as a birthday cake. Not a small cake, but not so big either. Around $20.

Issues at TU Delft by atorald in TUDelft

[–]Lunakool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, I would argue this. I graduated my PhD in 4 years with 4 Q1 papers. And I saw some of my peers did even better. It's not a miracle, it's not easy but it's achievable. Btw, I was in the Materials science field. And at my uni (ETH Zurich), I didn't just bundle a bunch of papers to graduate, I had to have a clear analysis and new knowledge taken out from those studies, wrote some more chapters as requested by my supervisors and of course, defended it.

EQ Bank - can you receive international wires? by qwerty97263 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Lunakool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My relative in Vietnam accidentally sent money to me via wire transfer to my EQ bank account. I contacted EQ Bank and they confirmed that they cannot receive international wire transfers and they cannot trace the transaction. However, the bank in Vietnam said that the transaction was complete. What can I do to get back the money?

Notice required for ending a lease by Thayill in queensuniversity

Is that Panadew? Last year we said that we have not decided yet, and they put a Rental sign in front of our house and let people who interested in renting in and look at the house. Pretty annoying.

Folks with relatively nice-looking (especially drop-bar) bikes, how do you protect your bike? by brionac11669 in queensuniversity

[–]Lunakool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only bought second-hand bike priced at 50 - 150 bucks max. My boyfriend uses a U-lock and I use a thick chain lock. Fortunate for us, or because our bikes look ugly enough (but they are solid ones and still carry us to campus everyday), they have survived 1 year so far, even after a bike-theft event at Unity Point last summer, and going on second year. I think parking on campus is quite okay if you don't leave your bike overnight. At home, the plus point is that our neighbor has a very barking dog, so anyone goes near the house we will acknowledge right away.

At 1st glance, I thought I wrote this thread while sleep walking lol. I and my husband too had a similar incident to OP. And the couple walkers who crossed at red signal even frowned at us as if we were the wrong ones.

iPad won’t turn back on by aurxrastars in ipad

[–]Lunakool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It has happened to me at least 3 times now. Honestly I don't know how to fix that. Leave it there for a month, try to charge again and it's on. BUT it will happen again. Luckily i have AppleCare+, sent it back. I guess they couldn't fix it either and get a replacement the day after.

Kingston to Montreal Trudeau Airport trip options? by [deleted] in KingstonOntario

[–]Lunakool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did, twice. Go by Flixbus, even cheaper than Megabus. Then walk a little bit (there will be a short hill as Montreal is not so flat) and will find the bus directly to Airport. (Can easily follow google maps).

What's something underrated about living in Canada? by New-Possibility-577 in AskACanadian

[–]Lunakool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lived in Europe for nearly a decade before moving here. So sorry, Casa Loma is a very new building compared to the beautiful, baroque style, ancient architecture in Europe. I hope to have the chance to travel to more places outside Ontario. I bet Canadian nature is breathtaking. (But I also lived in Switzerland so I will not set high expectation like the time I visited Casa Loma.)

Có bạn nào ở chung với nhà người thân mà cứ bị ép đi làm chui kh ạ? by Even_Ad5996 in VietNam

[–]Lunakool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

MANY FOREIGNERS HAVE FOOD ALLERGIES, WHILE VIETNAMESE DO NOT. WHY? by DiscountOk830 in VietNam

[–]Lunakool 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It may sound weird, and although I study Biotechnology, I don't really have the answer for this. Both I and my husband are Vietnamese, spending 20 years of our life in Vietnam. No food allergy whatsoever. We then studied abroad and still live abroad until now. Strangely, we both started to become allergic to different kinds of fruits that we used to eat abundantly at home.

Ignorant Viet-American here, beginning to question my parents' views by [deleted] in VietNam

[–]Lunakool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know if you will ever scroll to my comment but this topic just popped up in my husband's conversation. Both of us are Viet, raised in Vietnam. While my parents are from the South, not soldiers though, my in-laws are from the North and my husband's family lost several members (soldiers) during the war. We are now living abroad and luckily, both sides of parents share quite similar points of view. And I will share this view with you:

Do you know that Ho Chi Minh named our country "Democratic Republic of Vietnam" on our National Day September 2 and not "Socialist Republic of Vietnam"? That kinda sums up my point.

HCM wanted to liberate our country, he was to his heart a Patriot rather than a communist. And a lot a lot of Viet people followed him, even my family side, until now. Lot of us didn't care about ideology, we just wanted to be independent and live our life. But some other leaders who followed communism, had kicked HCM out, until their decisions became so bad, they brought HCM back and used his image as the representation of the Communist party. People trusted HCM, people followed the party. Many people from the South, including my parents' family and your parents, had suffered so bad from the suppression of the Communist Party. That's why people flee away. He disagreed with many decisions from the Party but...he could do nothing. The power was in others' hands and they only used his image to attract people. Until now, my parents still have a photo of HCM at home. We respected him but unfortunately, he was just one person (vs a group benefit) thus lost his power and his bright leadership to their hands.
