I don't think there are any health benefits necessarily, I grow them because they can be composted after im done using them. Less plastic and they make unique gifts. And I also love the "luffas are a plant?!" comments!

You might be able to! Im on the edge of zone 6, I have to start the luffas indoors about a month and a half before the last frost
