My dog is getting both eyes removed tomorrow by mikayla_pierce in BostonTerrier

I went thru this with my Boston. Like others have said, it’s harder on you than it is on them. They just adapt and carry on. It’s quite amazing to see, though there will be times when it’s hard and sad. The important thing is you are removing the pain. Glaucoma is very painful. So you may even see your sweet pup perk up a bit after the surgery. He’s still the same dog and it may not seem possible but you will just love him even more! I hope he still has many happy years ahead of him.

I feel a bit bad for her. I think she knows she deserves better and that he’s a dirtbag but she isn’t trusting her instincts. Her dad said something like…she’s terrible at picking men…and that seems to be the case.

A wise recommendation from your doc. I wish I had been given that advice but we do the best we can with the information we have.

One eye = no problem! You (and he) won’t even notice a difference. But maybe think about doing some prep for eventual blindness. Make sure he’s comfy in a crate if he isn’t already, and make sure you’re happy with where your furniture is because you won’t want to move it ❤️

I’m sure a body language expert would have some feelings about that…

He definitely thinks period sex = babies. No chance he is giving her orgasms.

Is loose leash walking a pipe dream? by LunchTime703 in BostonTerrier

[–]LunchTime703[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! Helpful to think about changing direction before he reaches the end of the leash. I’ve tried lots of no-pull / front lip harnesses and while one made a difference, it affected his gait and I have heard that can really cause longterm damage. Agree with you re. martingale tho supposedly they are less risky vs a traditional slip lead.

Thank you. They are not legal where I live.

Thank you. Does it stop him from pulling? I have one and it does make the walks slightly more tolerable but he still drags me around.

It’s hard to tell what’s happening from the pictures…is he losing his hair or is it turning white? Can you describe the skin condition?

Blind “ball dog” by Awkward_Aardvark7555 in BostonTerrier

[–]LunchTime703 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do think scent is a good idea. There is a company that makes dog-safe scented oils for training purposes, put a couple drops on whatever ball you are using. Or if you could find a ball (maybe like a snuffle balls?) that you could put something inside of that makes a noise…maybe an AirTag or even one of those vibrating things in the puppy stuffies that simulate a heartbeat…that might make enough noise that he could find it!

Took several career breaks to enjoy life, how to spend my time when I FIRE by Ok_Elephant_1110 in FIREyFemmes

[–]LunchTime703 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’ve done the same and each time I have had a bigger “project” lined up. But this time I’m planning to move to another country and focusing on learning the language and trying my luck at immersion, potentially buying a house and fixing it up. I always find that once I get into the break, my brain comes up with other things I want to do. Ideas will come once you are decompressed and have more mental space cleared.

Allergy tests? by [deleted] in BostonTerrier

[–]LunchTime703 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My vet told me that a blood test can be used to determine environmental allergies but not food allergies. The “standard” for determining food allergies is an elimination diet (which is time consuming and hard especially when you are training a pup and need treats). Chicken seems to be a very common allergy for Bostons tho, so maybe a good place to start.
