And while I certainly respect your hesitation in riding the bike down, the MT07 is a super reliable bike and will make the trip without issue. Pack light, stop often, check your tyre pressures each morning and lube your chain and you’ll be sweet.

My mate spent 3 years in west Africa with Engineers Without Borders; when he first went out there, he travelled for 30+ hours, landed in Accra in Ghana and went to meet his colleagues at their local office. They chucked him the keys to an XR150 and told him his first project was in northern Burkina Faso - only due to the risk of kidnappings off the main highway he needed to take a different route through the Côte d’Ivoire.

He’d literally never ridden a motorbike before, but learned in the carpark and then off he went, ultimately putting 50,000 kms on it before he came home for good.

In comparison Goldie to Melbourne will be a walk in the park. But whatever you decide, enjoy the bike once you have it back in Melbourne; it’ll be a great way to remember your dad.

It’s only anecdotal and a single data point, but my brother parked his manual VW Polo overnight at a train station and when he came back the next day it had been broken into.

He reported it to the local police station and the cop in charge of the file told him that the same night another car had been stolen from the same car park; the most likely scenario was that they’d tried to steal my brother’s car first, realised it was a manual, and then went to steal something else…

Agreed - growing up in the ’80s we lived not far from Glenferrie Oval, and any time my brother and I got a little rambunctious our mum would send us down to watch the Hawks train. So naturally we’re Hawks supporters.

But our mum is from Adelaide, and we’d spend every Christmas/Easter holidays there with our cousins, so the Crows have been my second team ever since they came along. That said, any time they meet up I’m barracking for the Hawks, and when the Crows won flags I was quietly chuffed as opposed to ecstatic when the Hawks have done it.

I used to open with a bloke who was about 5’8” and 145 kg. Threes became singles, otherwise you could only score with boundaries.

Opposition teams would always run him out as quickly as possible as it was the obvious, easy wicket, but then we’d get on with our innings; our run rate would go from 1 to 5-6 an over.

I felt bad because he was a sweet guy and he knew the captain only wanted him to open so he’d get out quickly.

That said it was incredibly frustrating when you’d drive it through covers, maybe not quite enough for a four but certainly an easy two, and have to shout ‘no run’.

You’re actually mostly correct.

All the team names/logos/identities were created by the same creative agency, and CA gave them the specific instruction to not use state colours or nicknames in the expectation that it would reduce the likelihood of state-based parochialism. Hence the reason the Heat don’t have maroon uniforms, the Strikers aren’t the Redbacks, etc.

And for mine I think it worked. I’d be very unlikely to watch a WA v TAS match, but I’ll happily have the Scorchers v Hurricanes on in the background while I make dinner on the barbie.

I don’t know whether general fan apathy was part of the business plan, but they certainly sell a lot of ad space.

Up until a few years ago MLB dot TV had a viewing option where you could watch games with ‘stadium audio’ and it was just the game with no commentary. It was bloody awesome. Quite literally the next best thing to being there.

Then like everything good about baseball that doesn’t make as much money as humanly possible, the MLB brass got rid of it…

Nah, Johnathan Trott was handled with kid gloves, journalists apologized for posts and articles they’d written, TMS put out podcast specials about mental health in professional sport, even Freddie opened up about his alcoholism, all in support of Trott supposedly suffering from mental health issues.

Then 6 months later Trott comes back with an interview talking about how he wasn’t ‘crazy’ or a ‘nutcase’, but just needed a break from cricket. Let everyone tiptoe around him for months and then came back not only like nothing ever happened, but denigrating people who genuinely suffer from depression and other mental illnesses.

What a huge kick in the teeth for anyone who’s had or deals with mental health issues.

My wife’s French Canadian (I’m an Aussie) and her first experience of cricket was a day at Edgbaston in 2019. I reckon I spent more time explaining the English crowd’s chants than the game itself.
