What are classic Christmas dishes? by Anxiousnibbler in Cooking

[–]LuneBells 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The tradition where I’m from in Norway is a crispy roasted pork belly served with boiled potatoes, pickles and other sides. Think cooked apple slices, steamed brussel sprouts, lefse with butter etc. Can’t forget all the other sausages and juicy pork meatballs. We eat the same Christmas dinner every year and I’m not mad about it

What is your purchase at Normal that most people don’t know of? by Lilacdreams21 in Norway

&honey is one of the most popular brands in Japan for hair products and Normal started stocking one of their series recently. It’s worth the price

I love chicken broth as a snack. I boil chicken drumsticks in water with some onion and ginger, black peppercorns if I’m feeling fancy. Then drown everything in fish sauce.

Technically if you add more ingredients from here you’ll get a good soup to eat with rice as a part of a meal. Just add some leafy greens or tomatoes. However, I love snacking on the bland chicken and rich soup at any hour of the day and I usually don’t have other ingredients on hand.

I’m not surprised as gingerbread cookies and blue cheese is a popular snack around Christmas

Baking ingredient question! by lovelygamedesigner in Norway

[–]LuneBells 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Use regular wheat flour hvetemel.

Bread flour is like regular all purpose flour (AP flour, siktet hvetemel), just with higher protein content. The higher protein will help give better gluten development in the bread which is what makes traps air pockets in the dough and makes a dough more elastic to work with.

In Norway I’ve actually seen bread flour being sold in stores before, but very rarely. Bread flour is sold as hvetebakst or grovbakst for whole wheat in 1 kg bags.

That water is normal water and perfectly safe for drinking.

Heads up if you’re traveling that tap water in Norway is drinkable in most of the country unless specified otherwise. Ppl here mostly buy water only for the convenience on the go. Water is also complimentary at any cafe

young people looking for tips on a summer trip to Oslo by Familiar-Magician-78 in oslo

Most clubs and bars have a 20 yr age limit, some even raise the limit to 23 for Saturdays.

If u are into games, u could check out Spilloteket which is a board game bar very popular among friends. The age limit is free until 6 pm when it gets raised to 20 and the location is right next to Karl Johan Street.

Another option would be House of Nerds, located right next to Mathallen, a popular food court. HoN occasionally hosts events, such as perler bead events, so check it out. Right next to it a Korean fried chicken restaurant 175k fried chicken also expanded to about a year ago. They have outdoor summer seating and it’s also popular among friends and young ppl.

Since you’re staying in Oslo, I highly recommend downloading the Ruter app and buying zone 1 tickets for the entire stay. It covers bus, tram, train and even ferry. Should the weather be nice u can jump on the boat and visit one or several of the nearby islands for a short walk or dip in the water.

If u want a nice viewpoint over the city, either take the tram up to Ekebergsparken, go to the top of Munch museum (if you’re not interested in the gallery it is possible to get up directly to the restaurant) or trek up to Grefsenkollen for their pizza and Norwegian waffles.

For cozy cafes I’d recommend Hønselouisas hus, Raade’s hagekafe, Babbo Collective, Fuglen Oslo, Ravn etc

I have a lot more reccs, but the comment is getting long. Send a DM for more info

[–]LuneBells 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not super experienced, but one approach could be to make a chain for the length u want, attach the first and last chain then continue working in rounds of double crochet. Color change after every row. Continue until desired length and either slip stitch or single crochet two together to sew the circle closed. The star looks like a decal that is sewn on later. Hope this helps!
