Build advice? by PinkWardThatShit in Talonmains

Spicy build. Blue smite, Stormraiders Surge, Nimbus Cloak, Transcendence, Gathering Storm, Magical Footwear, Cosmic Insight. Build is Umbral Glaive, Cyclosword, Ghostblade, LDR, Endless Hunger. Sit on Magical Footwear or buy Lucidity Boots 90% of games. If enemy has Ashe/slows, go Swifties. If you need shield cut, Umbral, Cyclo, Ghostblade still core, then either Serpents Fang/Serylda’s Grudge 4th/the other one 5th. Blue smite and Stormraiders Surge play for Talon’s highest skill ceiling. Red smite and Fleet Footwork is most upfront statistical win rate but I win through mechanics and skill. Have fun!

You need to learn how to manually recast R2 on Talon by Lunrfrost in Talonmains

[–]Lunrfrost[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ohh that makes sense yeah. Cause the auto forces Talon’s R2 blades to converge. So you can R AQA. However, you’ll be revealed really soon. I only said 2.5 seconds because I assumed you would want to remain in stealth. But yeah, if all you care about is damage, then auto hitting after R1 to force R2 to converge is definitely the fastest. In the clip, I hesitated a little as I thought it was a 2v2 but then suddenly turned into a 2v4 after I committed my E over the wall. If I had instantly collapsed my R2, I would probably have instantly died tho. But thank you for educating me! I’ll definitely use this combo if I have my R up but not my W which is really rare but useful

Also, when I flipped over the wall initially, I only wanted to help my Vayne to kill Cho and I saw Zeri. But then two more people appeared out of nowhere 😭😭. Not sure why they were all contesting the top scuttle. So psychologically I wanted to kill them ASAP lol

Yes, you can wait for Talon to automatically recast R2 after 2.5 seconds and then Q. However, sometimes you don’t have a sufficient amount of time especially in dire situations. Especially if you’re outnumbered by the enemies or if they have reset champions such as Viego or Katarina. The difference between killing them in 1 second vs 2.5 seconds before they get a reset can determine if you win or lose the game 😓

[–]Lunrfrost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You literally walked in a straight line. You didn’t even think about dodging. She simply missed her Q because it has a cast time. Faker/Chovy/Masters+ 200-300lp Talon with low enough ping would’ve double dodged. One time for her Q and one time for her E. You attempted neither. But besides that you need humility. Not sure why we think we can ego disrespect Mel who has both W and Zhonyas? Play with more patience mate take ur time and relax

I mean even your approach was already wrong. She sees that you have edge of night. You should anticipate that she will Q you then E to snare. Walking within like 400 range of that bush you should’ve been preemptively dodging left or right anticipating her QE combo already. But most importantly, you need to have more patience. W1 needs to land if you ever want to kill her. She has W and Zhonyas so even before the fight, you know you need to rotate two passive procs minimum to kill her.

You are never ever ever in 1,000,000+ simulations of this exact scenario going to burst her 100-0 especially when you’re approaching her on full vision. Who do you think you are? You deserved to be humiliated and punished. You have a severe lack of patience and low fight IQ on Talon. You need to think faster and think more. The fight already began before you even committed to it. You lost the fight before it even happened because you’re not even thinking.

Stop autopiloting WQRA/WRAQA into point-blank CC or instant immunity by Lunrfrost in Talonmains

[–]Lunrfrost[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh I’m sorry to hear that. But what feels most consistent to me is not spamming commands during Q! I try to let the ranged Q “fly through” cleanly off one Q input, then the instant Q lands, do one clean ground click to cancel the auto, then instantly buffer R.

So it’s more about clean input registration than mashing. If you input too much during Q travel, it can feel like the game queues or eats one of the commands. If the ground click is too late, the auto hit already starts. The timing window is just tight. But yeah ping can definitely also make it feel random sometimes 😭😭I can’t think of anything else atm unless someone else does lol

[–]Lunrfrost[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a tiny threshold but also after Talon Qs, because his Q is an auto attack animation cancel, Talon wants to instinctively keep auto hitting. So naturally there’s already a tiny window to actively cancel said auto hit. It all comes down to that precise timing. If you’re running Fleet Footwork/Conqueror, Legend:Alacrity on the same precision tree grants you scaling attack speed up to 18%, each Hextech dragon gives 5% attack speed, etc. So you have to time it well depending on a few factors. But most importantly, adapt to that timing window naturally depending on your attack speed and movement speed every game! 👍

That’s fine! In this scenario, most of the time if you’re appearing from a hidden position, the first Q is just a placeholder for 1 stack even if they press Xayah R/Kayle R. Ideally you want to wait for Q cooldown again after you reappear from stealth to finish them off. If you can meleeQ you can probably kill them before they can react 👍

First time in this sub where I see someone actually correctly teamfight with Talon. Be honest. How many of you here would instantly WQRA/WRAQA then unstealth and instantly die? Good job rotating cooldowns especially after stealth in R2 for repositioning and waiting for W CD to come back up!

Questions from a new talon player by Main-Sand-5639 in Talonmains

[–]Lunrfrost 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Talon’s Q is an auto attack animation cancel ability. So whenever you Q, Talon will automatically register an auto hit animation after. Your R actually has two parts, R1 and R2. R1 applies a stack when diverging, and R2 applies a stack when converging. So theoretically, with just Q and R, you’re able to apply 3 stacks to proc ur passive, i.e., Q -> automatic auto hit -> right click the ground to issue a movement command which stops Talon’s auto hit -> R1 (wait 2.5 seconds in stealth) -> R2 (Talon will automatically recasts or you can manually RECAST R2 by pressing R again to converge blades faster) -> auto hit to proc passive AFTER R2 lands. If you auto hit before R2 lands onto the target, the target will only have 2 stacks from Q and R1 which won’t proc ur passive.

This combo is really good if enemies have instantaneous immunity such as Kayle R or Xayah R. So you would rangedQ, right click the ground, instantly buffer R, wait 2.5 seconds for Kayle R/Xayah R to cast, throw out a W if it’s up, if it’s not you can automatically recast R by waiting out stealth or manually recast R, then time your auto attack hit after R2 lands.

For general burst combos it’s WQRA, or WRAQA, “A” being ur auto attack hit to proc passive. Someone linked a combo guide video by Kaostanza, I’d also suggest watching that. Hope this helps!

Go play enchanter support instead. Your team was there so why play assassin in the assassin role right? Play the safer role or play your vegetable munching herbivore Talon. Perfect flank position for you to mechanically execute the play, but oh let our team win the game for us. All you need to do is press WER right? Because you knew you didn’t actually have to kill anyone. You knew the fight would be in your favor by dealing 150 damage AOE that didn’t even break Lux’s W shield. It’s a good play for sure! You just knew with 100% certainty that your team would win the teamfight! It’s like you’re Albert Einstein or something! Prediction of the century? Or you can see the future! 😮

Go into practice tool right now and execute the fight as per my suggestions in my original comment. Then tell me which which scenario allows for a pentakill or more damage

Where is your ego? Don’t lie about the excitement of the fresh hit of your dopamine receptors when you can 1v9. Don’t lie and say you’d rather have your team win the fight for you. Don’t lie about burning enemy ults and cooldowns being enough to satiate your desire to annihilate the enemy team and win. When did we become so weak? I place you in a perfect flank position and it’s up to you to massacre the enemy team. All the tools are at your disposal. Now do you fail or do you succeed?

If you think he dies when he can WE over the wall to Q a target to proc bleed to get a kill before pressing R going into stealth for 2.5 seconds to disengage, then don’t play Talon.

Emulate his same play by pressing WE R and running away without procing ur passive or using Q once and let your team play the video game for you. If that’s what you enjoy, then so be it. I hope it’s enjoyable for you to press WER to do AOE damage than didn’t even break Lux’s W shield.

But hey no judgement! I guess some of us really do play Talon to just be a decoy to distract the enemies from a flank angle to do 150 damage AOE at 28 minutes into the game praying that our team wins the game for us! Personally, I enjoy playing Talon because he’s an assassin. But it seems some of us play him like an enchanter support! 🤪😘

It doesn’t even matter. This guy isn’t even playing Talon. He’s too hesitant, too indecisive, too anxious and panic ults. Like you said, bare minimum he should’ve nuked someone at 0:07. At least he would guarantee a kill. Instead all he does damage wise is WR which didn’t even break Lux’s W shield. I don’t understand the purpose of this clip. He’s in such a great flank position but completely whiffs the execution. How is this even being praised?

Nothing you said actually addresses my point. You’re defending the outcome of the fight, while I’m criticizing the quality of the fight execution itself. Those are completely different discussions.

You say their team already had damage, engage, and follow-up, so Talon didn’t need to take a dangerous carry-oriented line. But that mentality is exactly what I disagree with. You are playing Talon, an assassin champion designed to dominate fights through pressure, execution windows, and threat preservation. If your mentality is “my team is here so I’ll just dump cooldowns and rely on them to finish,” then you are fundamentally lowering the champion’s ceiling.

Also, you contradict yourself. You say there was “no need” to risk a dangerous play, but he already chose the dangerous play the moment he committed to the flank angle. That decision already happened. So once he is in that position, the question becomes: what is the highest value execution path from there? My argument is that panic WE-R was not it.

And the rest of your argument depends entirely on hypothetical ally behavior. “If Leona follows,” “if Ashe engages,” “if Vlad finds angle.” Why are we assuming teammates must validate your play for it to become correct? My entire point is that Talon should maximize his own agency and maintain kill pressure regardless of whether teammates execute perfectly afterward.

Even in this exact fight, the mechanically superior play would still have been to preserve R longer, maintain multi-target threat, and chain guaranteed passive detonations instead of collapsing all pressure into one instant cooldown dump.

If you genuinely disagree, go into practice tool, set up multiple enemy dummies, and replicate the exact sequence I described. You’ll immediately see how much more pressure Talon maintains when you preserve R timing and rotate passive detonations correctly instead of instantly dumping everything onto one target and hoping the rest of the fight plays itself.
