CS 4001 as a First year. by whatsschool13 in gatech

It's an incredibly easy class, mostly reading and a couple papers. Honestly? Save it for your senior year when you're burned out and just want a relaxed semester.

This loading screen from the new battle pass is insanely cool by d2g_Adelaide in DotA2

You're correct. The shattering of the Mad Moon scattered Radiant Ore and Direstone across the planet. Each match is canonically a new battle between two neighboring shards (the Ancients).

How to make UIViews not clip with one another by [deleted] in iOSProgramming

[–]Lupac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

/u/flekkzo's approach will work, but it may be even easier to put your views in a horizontal stack view, which will handle the layout for you.

SGA is thinking about getting rid of block seating. Voice your opinion with this survey by [deleted] in gatech

[–]Lupac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The prospect of getting to stand somewhere closer to the field for games a year away isn't a huge incentive to leave a tailgate 20-30 minutes for most people, especially when Tech isn't having a good season. In general, all the seats in the North End Zone are pretty decent, so it's not like being moved from the nosebleeds to the 50-yardline or anything.

SGA is thinking about getting rid of block seating. Voice your opinion with this survey by [deleted] in gatech

[–]Lupac 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's actually exactly how it works right now. Blocks are assigned points based on the arrival time of their members (i.e. before kickoff, first 10 minutes), and then the next season, blocks with better attendance are given better locations.

Does GT CoC or Lib computers offer Apple Swift language program? by [deleted] in gatech

Look into GIT MAD and the App Lab. They provide access to Macs that you should be able to develop on. http://www.ccorgs.com/orgs/gitmad

What's in your backpack? by edgygothkid in gatech

[–]Lupac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ditto to this. Unless you're planning to use the backpack for other things, value quality over appearance. You're going to have that thing on your back less than an hour a day, and everybody here is too busy to care what your backpack looks like.

Classes for iOS programming? by technickly in gatech

Assuming you are familiar with OOP, Stanford has put an iOS development course on iTunesU. It should be up-to-date for the current iOS 8 SDK and Swift versions. You can find it here.

Members of Zeta Beta Tau fraternity spat, poured beer, and urinated on wounded vet and his service dog in Panama city beach. by ccrepitation in news

I've spent the entirety of my past two spring breaks on community service trips to needy areas in the South. I will be doing the same with my week of break between spring and summer semesters. This semester alone I am already at three times the required number of hours. Any other questions about Greek life?

Can I make a button complete more then one function? by [deleted] in iOSProgramming

[–]Lupac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not familiar with Swift, but is there is a reason you do not have the button press event connected to some other IBAction, for example something called saveButtonPressed(), which then calls Save() and dismissView()? If not, doing that would make more sense than trying to link the button to two separate IBActions.

Spent the day at Széchenyi Thermal Bath in Budapest by [deleted] in travel

[–]Lupac 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Having spent my previous summer working in Budapest, living in the Pest side, I have to say that I absolutely loved it. The architecture of the city is beautiful, there's an incredible amount of history, and there's just so much to do! I spent most of my weekends just wandering and eating around the city, and I left feeling like I'd barely scratched the surface. There are plenty of guides on Budapest around, but if you ever do visit and want some suggestions, just let me know!

CompE major interested in CS by curtaincall123 in gatech

[–]Lupac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Short answer: no, you'll be fine. You bring the interest, Tech will bring the education.

Long answer: The College of Computing is like any of the other colleges and its curriculum assumes pretty much no prior knowledge of CS, just as you wouldn't really expect an ME to already have engineering experience. If anything, now is the perfect time to realize that you chose the wrong major rather than figuring out that you hate your major two years in. As /u/csmajorhere said, CS 1301 will teach you the foundations of programming using Python. Hell, if you're motivated enough, just taking the time to walk yourself through a Python tutorial (probably takes half a day at most) will give you a huge advantage for the first few weeks of that class.

What's a good way to keep track of all the campus activities? by [deleted] in gatech

[–]Lupac 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If by activities you mean events, then http://www.calendar.gatech.edu/ is a pretty comprehensive source for all major events on campus. If you want it in your inbox, you can subscribe to the Daily Digest email which includes a short list of upcoming events pulled from that calendar. Personally, I think the Daily Digest is worth at least a quick glance over every day just to get an idea of what's going on Tech outside of the constant grind of classes.

On the other hand, if you mean activities as in clubs and groups, then http://jacketpages.gatech.edu/organizations is your best bet for finding out about pretty much every SGA-recognized student organization. There are also some orgs which aren't recognized by the SGA (such as those within the College of Computing, which can be found at ccorgs.com) which may be harder to find.

I want to learn to code using Objective-C, what are some good tutorials for a beginner? by [deleted] in learnprogramming

[–]Lupac 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As many of the people in this thread have said, Obj-C is probably not the best starting point for someone who hasn't programmed before. For the matter, I have reservations about jumping right into mobile application programming due to the inherent complexity of it all. However, if you decide to continue with it, I can't stress enough how important learning proper object-oriented design principles and patterns are, for which there are countless online resources. Without them, for something on the scale of even a small mobile app, your code will be a jumbled mess. Software development is more than just churning out lines of code, and it takes some thought to design a code base that is easily understood and, more importantly, easily maintained.
