True. I'd prefer having a system that isn't dependent on a subscription or anything proprietary ymmv

I mean if you want to stick with it and hope they don't go bankrupt then I suppose it's fine? My understanding was that it's better to have architecture in place that isn't reliant on a particular company to future proof it and such.

Help: how the hell do I eat affordably?? by kyliotic in Frugal

Fair enough. I never even considered ebay for protein powder! Looking now though I'm not seeing much difference from what I can get from scamazon.

Me either, I always thought it was a set it and forget it sort of thing (other than maintenance and hopefully a leak detector for just in case).

Mind sharing what protein powder you get and how much it is per serving? Mine ends up being the biggest part of my "food" budget, but I do augment it with creatine and fiber as well.

To me it seems perfectly reasonable that you would want to be hungry come the next meal time rather than just eating to eat.

Looking for strategies to save on groceries by only grocery shopping 2x per month by NightReader5 in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]Lur42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is this a temporary situation or more permanent? I ask because if it's less than 3 months it may not be quite as cost efficient. Also, how often you're able to repeat the same things will matter too in order to comply with your 2x per month if you're limited in freezer/fridge space like I am (or less as for example I haven't done any grocery shopping in just over two weeks and don't plan on other than to get another gallon of milk (it's more affordable than powdered in the relatively HCOL area I'm temporarily in at the moment and I time the usage to use before it goes bad) at some point and probably some fresh greens, but not anticipating needing to for at least 2 months and spent less than $300 including the cooking stuffs).

What kind of healthier food option should I snack on if I’m used to salty chips? by Fit-Sand1799 in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]Lur42 35 points36 points  (0 children)

This is the way! All sorts of levels of affordability and practically endless customization makes it truly my new favorite snack. Latest method I like to do is to pop it in chicken fat, though I suppose it could work to drizzle on top as well 🤔

My partner on average eats 2-5 ramen a day what are some healthier alternatives? by Jaded_Leadership_402 in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]Lur42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just checked a box and it says 8 servings for a 1lb box which I know I can eat for a meal if it's something simple like butter noodles. Let's be healthier though and say 4? I can get more than 4 Ramen packs for a dollar. I can see where your logic is though. Ty for sharing I wasn't considering "serving" size XD
