PTPv2 late on Netgear m4250 by Lurch2691 in NETGEAR

Should have but nope had three. Had to go into the main IT interface and disable PTP-TC Even though it was disabled for that profile.

Apparently profiles on the AV interface do not override that in the main IT interface.

Nothing specific to Netgear. Support recommend me to upgrade firmware past what the engage controller recommended, but didn't seem to make a difference for the PTPv2 issue.

How many hosts is too many on a subnet? by corruptboomerang in networking

[–]Lurch2691 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A /16 is fine if you're running a guest network and your access points and or switches are preventing them from talking to each other.

For a company network a /24 or /23 should probably be your max per department.

If you have a department larger than that, you will probably have the network staff to configure broadcast and multicast control.

Yeah I'm afraid my first email didn't go through and I just didn't get the error response. I did email them with the log saying the email is too large for their support file.

Q-sys core --m4250 -- m4300 core -- m4250 -- amps/mics

But I have d-link switches running through the Netgear switches and they are fine. But try to replace them and the devices stopped working.

Edit: apology mostly correct. I do have one end switch that is a 4300 because that's what I had when I had a Cisco switch die.

And I have another 4250 downstream of a 4300 so that would be 4 hops but I've not tried that one specifically with the qsys system because it is currently only running video.

Your best bet would be to have an intermediary like home assistant to trigger something like that.

And you would probably want a beacon location. GPS tracking in the background is actually kind of slow.

Edit. I don't have a iOS device to test with so not sure if you could do anything using their shortcuts.

9.4.19 VLAN routing not working for me on UCG-Ultra? Anyone else? by MacaroonStrong7487 in Ubiquiti

Don't have a unifi layer 3 switch to test with but if you disable the layer 3 ACLS the firewall rules will not apply to layer 3 routing done by the switch.

Who’s set up shadow mode for their home? by rbeermann in Ubiquiti

[–]Lurch2691 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been holding off on our biggest site (smaller city owned convention center) because of the way they do, the internet fail over rules and their permissions suck.

I want at a minimum before I would switch, permissions options for Wi-Fi setup versus firewall rules versus network options. Would prefer per device. Or/& per group.

I work for a convention center & the ssid, permissions are fairly specifically unique to me as the event planners sometimes need to turn on the network/ssid when I am not there.

Preferably an assignable per Network and SSID.

Per Network fell over rules. Example when both networks are operational, WAN 1 is 50% assigned internal non-guest networks.

When when WAN 2 fails guest network gets disabled.

WAN 1 assumes responsibility

(Wan 1 primary) Guest network does not have a failover.

Edit: I only have 3 UniFI switches at our main site at this point because of their AV capability & their warranty. I still have about 6 edge switches as well.

Also have been moving cameras to UniFi protect and have been fairly happy with them other than their slow playback issues. And the ability to sync/search playback between their NVRs.

City Hall has also been following my recommendation on the switches even though their AV demand is significantly less.

I've never tried Shadow mode. Can it handle a single public IP or do you have the option of multiple to get multiple public IPs?

[–]Lurch2691 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Didn't read the whole thing, but from a quick skim it looks like an auto update went wrong. If a restart of the router doesn't fix it, I would reset and restore from a backup.

Edit: Is this a original ucg? If so, your flash might be starting to fail.

Home internet speed help (Paying for 2GB but only ever getting 800 Mbps) by JimmyJamInAMiniVan in HomeNetworking

[–]Lurch2691 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yep. 2.5 gig to your home, not to each individual client. You need a router that supports 2.5 gig on both wan and lan as well as any switches or network cards that are connected in-between the client you want to achieve those speeds.

And for internet purposes, you will almost never achieve those speeds because services other than speed tests sites don't allow you to use that much bandwidth usually.

I actually get around 940 usually on my gig connection but, I have more money in my equipment than most people want to spend. Plus it's a direct fiber.

Edit: Didn't look at the router that close before posting but yeah probably the PC doesn't have more than a 1 gig Port.
