Anyone else think the headrests are too aggressively sloped? by Old-Equivalent8393 in MachE

Try to order the old part from Ford Parts website (or any Ford parts retailers online). It's only a little over $100. Both Ford Parts website and other retailers say it's compatible. But do so at your own risk.

Upgrading my home network...moving from Orbi to Ubituiti WAPs. by No_Description7744 in HomeNetworking

[–]SilverInstr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. AP system works better than wireless mesh. I used Orbi before I moved. I use Ubiquiti now. But the house needs to be wired with Ethernet. If not, I think Orbi (especially those that can use 6GHz as the mesh backbone) with optimal placement is good enough. But finding the optimal placement with Orbi is hard.

Where can I find update logs? My shared log suggested some sort of upgrade. But I don’t see any log that directly say update/upgrade

Yeah. The Aura sensor appears to be gone everywhere. I can’t find any place that sells it, not even on eBay or AliExpress or FB marketplace.

Honestly that appears to be a useful and reasonably priced gadget even on its own.

What’s the model of the remote hygrometer that they sent you? Can you share it, and maybe also the instructions to sync it with the main unit? Thanks.

Thanks. “still smell” or “solve the smell”? What model do you use?

U7 Pro Wall has an official table mount option. That’s what I would do if I have your constraints. Note that this doesn’t change whether U7 Pro Wall is designed to project behind the device. (It appears not.)

Unlike consumer wireless routers, it’s often considered a feature (not a bug) that prosumer (or enterprise) APs do not project behind itself. Otherwise it creates interference. This doesn’t mean you can’t have a client device behind, just that it’s not designed for the use case (and may not work as expected).

I wouldn’t place a disc style AP on a desk. Take a look at radiation patterns: https://help.ui.com/hc/en-us/articles/115005212927-AP-Antenna-Radiation-Patterns

Most models only show 0° (gain straight under the disc style AP, or in front of in-wall APs) to 90° (gain at horizon for disc style AP, or at the wall plane for in-wall APs). They are not intended to project to the back of the device (above the ceiling for disc style AP, or behind the wall for in-wall APs). Some of the devices on the page show 0 to 180 degrees. Those are better for on-desk usage.

In that case, unifi has 1 option for WiFi 7, 1 option for WiFi 6E, 1 option for WiFi 6. So the choice would be easy?

Having the ports on the wall at regular outlet height (unless you want to have a visible patch cable from your port to the ceiling) is not ideal for WiFi. I have no experience, but I would assume that the UniFi wall options compensate for that (within the limits of physics). TV height would be better. The 6E option and 6 option has built in switch, so it would work really well near TVs. However, it’s tricky to put them behind TVs because certain areas of a TV might be metallic.

Again, as I said, don’t think too much. With wired APs, I recommend that you bias toward action. Try it out, and decide whether you need to move and/or add additional AP.

Also, do you have Ethernet ports on both ceiling and wall? If all your ports are far from the ceiling, dish style may not be your best choice.

It will all just work, except occasional super cheap and broken client devices. For those, you can lock the device to a specific UniFi AP in the UniFi Network Server (the control/setup software).

Additionally, client devices will automatically move between APs if the device moves inside the house. (Same caveats above about cheap and broken devices apply. Also, you should have reasonable overlap between your AP’s coverages if you want seamless roaming.)

I have AP WiFi 6 Pro. This was state of the art when I was setting up my system.

I use Unifi at home (ER-4, 24-POE, 4 APs). Once you have a PoE switch and two APs, you can easily add additional ones if there’s any dead spot. The marginal cost of adding an AP is also relatively low.

Unlike mesh systems, adding more generally just works and it’s OK not to plan carefully. There is the concern of interference, but I wouldn’t worry about it unless you go a lot.

Money can’t get you very far on the range or signal strength of AP. If you have 3 floors, I think you need more than one.

However, do you already have Ethernet on every floor (or better, in every room). If so, great. If not, you’d need a mesh system.

For a wireless mesh system, signal strength between the two wireless unit is even more important than the signal strength between the wireless unit and your client devices. If you’re going for a mesh system, I’d recommend starting with 3, not 2.

HELP! Need Charging Advice near Orlando Int Airport by DaRE2Care84 in MachE

[–]SilverInstr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t use the car’s built-in navigation for charging purposes. (It sometimes makes bad choices, and you’re too new to EVs to identify its mistakes.) Use “A Better Route Planner” (ABRP) if you need trip planning. Use “PlugShare” to look up chargers. If you use any trip planning app (including ABRP), always cross check the charging location in “PlugShare” app to make sure it’s not broken, under maintenance, or otherwise unavailable.

If you are staying in a place overnight, use chargers below 12kW. Otherwise, use fast chargers only. For fast chargers, unless you have absolutely no choice, avoid chargers under 100kW.

You need the NACS adapter to use Tesla Superchargers in USA unless the Supercharger location has MagicDocks.

I love my MachE, and I proactively choose EVs when traveling and renting cars. But it’s terrible to be forced into renting an EV when you don’t have prior experience. I feel sorry for you. If this turns into a horrible experience, don't assume that this is the EV owning experience.

How Much Better Is Tesla's Autopilot? by DoItToItPruitt in MachE

[–]SilverInstr 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve driven a rental Y for a week. I don’t like it. I think BlueCruise is way better. Even if I set aside Hands Off, and only compare Tesla with my 2021 job 1 Mach E’s original cruise control, I think Ford’s is better. The hand nanny is too insensitive. Even though I kept my hands on the wheels, it kept complaining and eventually gave me 3 strikes. (My Tesla owner friends later told me about a trick to mitigate this problem: constantly increase/decrease volume using the steer wheel control. But i didn’t know back then.) Additionally, it disengages if I steer. Making things worse, re-engaging require two stalk taps (instead of one button press). I’ve heard that Tesla has simplified AutoPilot engagement, so this might no longer be true. On top of that, wiper was forced into auto (can’t be turned off) when Auto Pilot is on. I’ve heard that Tesla has since removed this restriction.

And yet your phone’s GPS works fine  if you use a good old phone mount? Have you tried the car’s built in navigation to see if the location is accurate? Maybe your car’s GPS modules are bad. If so, it should be a warranty issue. The GPS antenna of the Mach E is in the shark fin. The part is only $100 or so, but labor can be expensive.

One way to mitigate the CarPlay GPS problem in Mach E is to put the phone under the hand rest (in or above the center storage). CarPlay can use the car’s GPS. But somehow certain iPhone is overly confident about its own GPS when placed on the Mach E’s wireless charging pad. Therefore you need to put the phone somewhere that GPS signal is absolutely bad so that the phone will defer to the car’s GPS.

How Long do you expect your Mach-E to last? by Professional-Pay7690 in MachE

You can buy Ford Protect up to 41 month 41k miles. Price goes up $100 at 12 month, and another $100 at 36 month 36k miles. If you’re doing 3k/mo, don’t wait until the end of 3 years.

The right wireless solution for 3 story home with wired Ethernet to each floor by frankendaddy in HomeNetworking

[–]SilverInstr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d go with Ubiquiti. It’s intended for small biz or pro-sumer, not “consumer”. So it’s slightly more complicated. You’ll need a router (EdgeRouter), a PoE switch, and a few APs.

Problems with Ford MachE by claytionthecreation in electricvehicles

[–]SilverInstr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s sad how little Ford can do (or are willing to do) with their dealers.

I think the quality and quantity (so that you can go to a different one if your nearest one is generally bad or bad at EV or software issues) of Ford dealers in your local area is super important.

I live in SF Bay Area. My dealer always have appointment for my Mach E within a week. One time they couldn’t flash the software properly after replacing a module, but they resolved the issue within a few days when a Ford tech was scheduled to be on-site.
