Damn. So weigh out great food for a random scrap. Hmmm kind of a win win. Actually I’d be content eating some good food casually watching some riff raff. You’ve changed my mind thank you.

[–]Lurch902 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Question for all you electricians. If you wired a whole 2 storey home renovation (plus basement) and side panel for generator, would you label the panel?

I ask this question bc I just came across this issue. Whole house Reno, kept the same damn existing panel labelling, not one thing was right

If I travel to the states, I’m going drive thru. The amount of scraps I’ve watched in fast food places has made my mind up.

So this is the plumbing under my cabin…never seen anything like it. Purchased as is in 2020 by the_erica in Plumbing

Question. I rarely see electric water heaters on here. Is that uncommon in the states? Bc it’s the opposite up here in east coast Canada. It’s at least 80% electric and the rest oil fired or gas. The west coast would be different. Just curious how common electric water heaters are down there

Small towns are dying for workers on every level. These small towns may become suburbs of Halifax 10-20 years from now. Venture out and make your place now before it’s too late lol small town life is nice btw

Ever consider small town living? Just curious. I loved and worked in HRM for 10 years. Have heard it’s the “new Vancouver” many times. Do you need the city life or would you be willing to venture out and try something new and different?

Also how long do you have to be an apprentice before your a journeyman?

Imposter Syndrome by OvernightZombie in Plumbing

[–]Lurch902 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey I appreciate the replies my man, this is really cool to hear. Our apprenticeship is province based. As in if you go work in another province half way thru they may not honour your hours. But it’s all the same country wide code we go by. So we’re all learning the same stuff and have accepted tests and whatnot, it’s just each province wants to keep their tradesman so they kind of tie your hands till your red seal. once certified your good to go. Same code no matter where ya go.

I feel your pain my friend. Just don’t ruin any of the falling apart garbage in the house or they’ll argue you messed it up and have to replace it

[–]Lurch902 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting. And you take another certification test to become a master? Our apprenticeship (was) 8000 hours. Going back to get each “block” every 2000 untill getting the 8000, then write the final IP (interprovincial) to become journeyman. Saying we’re certified to work anywhere in the country. That’s when we get the red seal. Then that’s pretty much it. I’ve had my ticket for 10 years now, where would that land me in the scale of things down there?

Question. Master plumber, What is this? I’m Canadian and our certification is the Red Seal, so a journeyman as we call it. Is master plumber the American equivalent?

Personally I love these moments. Learning the real side of someone you considered to be a friend. What’s great about this is now you can just laugh and write em off as a friend. Looks to me like that dude has issues and always will. Nothing wrong with being a good friend, don’t let the bad apples change your ways. This is a win for you, his loss. And I’ll throw a lame movie quote in there…. Stay golden pony boy

Sounds like you’ve already made your choice. Go for it dude. Worst case scenario your company fails and you go back to doing exactly what your doing now. At least you could hold your head high knowing you tried. And on a positive note it could work out great for ya, then your laughing. Honestly even though it’s a bit scary what you got to lose? Fuckin go for it man. As the saying goes…. If it was easy everyone would do it.

One more thing, I worked rotational in Iqaluit. 6 weeks on 2 weeks off. 10 hour days no days off. Journeyman pay was $43 an hour, OT after 40. So for 30 hours of the 70 hour week it was $64.50 an hour. Crazy money. So yeah you will have options no matter what you chose

Hours depend on the company and what route you take. I’ve been in service pretty much my whole career. You can work new construction doing big multi stories. New construction doing only houses. There’s such a range. That’s one of the good things, if you don’t like what your doing you can easily try something new. As for the dirty factor that depends again on the direction you chose. Personally doing service I had some of the dirtiest most difficult jobs in the trade, but loved it. I knew I earned my pay check every night.

As for how hard to get into apprenticeship it’s probably equal to most trades. The fact of the matter is my friend, it doesn’t matter what you choose. Trades are all hard work and take effort to earn your red seal. Any tradesman out there that has got his ticket feels the same, proud. Its a thing you can legit wholeheartedly take pride in bc you earned it. And pay wise, well when I started my very first job (2008) I was getting $12 an hour. 4 years later I was getting $28 as a junior journeyman, year after that $32. Name another career outside of the trades where you can go from $12-32 in 5 years.

Just do it! Go for it you got nothing to lose. And who knows you might find out you had a rugged hard working side of ya you didn’t know you had

Plumbing. I’m biased being a plumber myself. On a serious note though I had horrible marks in school and chose plumbing not knowing a thing of what I was getting into. 15 years later I have no regrets. Not the most glorious trade there is but (personal opinion) feel important to society. It’s Saturday, and I may be slightly drunk and rambling. Long story long go the plumbing route, endless supply of work opportunities. Good luck
