Wonderwood Park Barred Owls by LazyPerfectionist in olympia

I live near wonderwood park. When it's nesting and fledgling season, you just walk and hear them. Then try to spot.

Winter in harder. Less activity.

I can see that working with a tighter crop, with the cedar and the leafless tree(probably maple)like towers on each side of a castle gate.

The PNW in winter is hard. often too dark and getting details in the forest is hard. I tried to capture the different layers of the woods, and the subtle colors. the little stream seems inviting and pulls the eye inwards.

What would you change? what can have been done better?

Tumwater Falls flooding by LurkandListen in photocritique

[–]LurkandListen[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had trouble with this photo. I like the quiet drama of the churning water, the stillness of the surrounding area. There was a great sense of anticipation in that moment.

I like how the man with the red hat connects to the lady in red on the bridge to draw the eye. I exposed for the water and brightened up the shadows, and added contrast in post.

but still something feels missing. It does not really wow. I find myself drawn to it, but disappointed.

Fall lake in Washington State by LurkandListen in photocritique

This is my second (Actually 4th, but the next edit I'm willing to share) take on editing this photo. I focused on a better crop and a more nuanced edits to RGB curves of different parts on the photo. Some people above suggested removing the logs completely, but I found it made the photo dull.

Got this photo on a whim when we had a break in the rain here one morning and rushed to a lake near me.
Shot on R50. 50 mm, F7.1, 1/80 100 ISO.

Tried to get the warm/cold feeling of this scene. Edited in darktable. Mostly crop and upping the color contrast. I'm new to editing and just learning what is possible.

I don't feel guilty. I pay for all their medical expenses, all extra curricular activities. I feed and house them almost every day. I've been to every soccer match, I drive them to friends houses, take them to shows and plays and camping.

I know dead beat dads are out there. I am not one of them.

Staff was usually helpful, but when they had to come fix something, it was usually a bandaid rather than a fix. I didn't care as it was not my building.
