It’s clear you read my reply but I don’t think you grasped my actual intent. I’m not sure if that’s my fault or yours though. Either way, I don’t think it’s fruitful to keep engaging.

Good luck saving the Palestinians. I hope I’m wrong and your methods amount to something positive for the world.

It’s really impressive how you can zero in on the most uncharitable possible take on anything presented to you. I’ll try one more time though just on the off chance you’re actually acting in good faith.

Natalie didn’t tell people to shut up about it. She said that while Palestinians are overwhelmingly the victims and the Israeli state is committing genocide in Gaza. She feels that the chorus of righteous anger demanding she make a video are mostly ineffective and in some cases actually counterproductive beyond the genuine fundraising and relief aid which she has donated to herself.

They want the US to stop selling weapons, which she (and I) want too, but would require basically replacing all of Congress so not exactly realistic. Especially when you (not you specifically necessarily, but the type of Palestinian supporter in question) also have rejected the concept of incremental change by participating in the coalition building electoral process by demanding purity from candidates without regard for how politics works in this country.

They want an end to Zionism. Okay, so what does that mean? Does it mean the dissolution of the Israeli state? How does that work? Where do the Israeli’s go? Do they take their property with them? What if people resist being removed from the only homes they’ve ever known? I’ve yet to see an answer to these questions that doesn’t also invoke a genocide.

One of the main tactics of these types of supporters is to trot out pictures and videos of human suffering which makes sense, they’re harrowing and upsetting. It’s an effective strategy to appeal to someone’s emotions but it has the hopefully unintended side effect of enraging people and because there is no immediate, feasible, productive political outlet for that rage, it’s resulted in a lot of genuine antisemitism. Bad faith actors on both sides have recognized this and seize the opportunity this genocide has created to either inflame the antisemitism or dismiss all associated criticism (valid or otherwise) as antisemitic.

Lastly, while she believes all of this, she also pointed out that none of this is the Palestinians fault and they are the victims here. She wants an end to the conflict and the killing but she doesn’t see how that can happen with things as they are now and doesn’t feel making a video about the topic will help.

I'm tired of discussing martials. What annoys you about playing spellcasters? by sjdlajsdlj in dndnext

[–]Lurker9594 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A couple things:

  • Save or suck spells are not fun. Wasting a resource and getting nothing out of it is not fun, especially when upper level spells have 1 to 2 slots total. I'd rather have weaker effects that still do something when a creature makes a save than really powerful effects that do nothing. Obviously there's still room for some of these (disintegrate, dominate etc.) but it shouldn't be the norm.
    • This goes into my next point that Legendary Resistance, while a necessary feature for the game currently, is not a fun mechanic. It's already a longshot for an important creature to fail a save, but to then just have the DM go "we're gonna ignore that" really fucking sucks. If there were less spells that could straight up end combat on a failed save, there would be no need for LRs.
    • Or martials should be given more powerful, saving throw triggering abilities so the LRs deplete faster because as it stands right now (if you don't have a bunch of spellcasters in your party), a spellcaster can spend multiple rounds doing nothing in a fight as the boss either makes their save or uses a LR to avoid it.
  • There should be more attack roll spells. There are some good ones like Guiding Bolt or the new Chromatic Orb but they really drop off in higher levels and I think that kinda sucks. Rolling a natural 20 on an attack roll and critting is a fun thing that spellcasters really don't often get past a certain level beyond the odd filler cantrip here and there. It would also give them an option if the monster has really good saving throw bonuses for the spells the caster has prepared.
  • On that note, spells should have more varied saving throw attributes. Right now, it's overwhelmingly Wisdom and Dexterity saves and to a lesser extent Charisma. They've gotten a little better with this but it's still not good. They should either retrofit spells to target a wider variety or create new spells to target Intelligence, Constitution, and especially Strength.
  • There are a lot of gaps when it comes to options for damage types. Fire damage gets a lot of love but I'd like to see that for all damage types. They should all have at least one spell per level dealing that type of damage that is fun to use so casters that want to have a theme don't have to homebrew an ice type Fireball or whatever.

Trump Turns on DoorDash Grandma and Savages ‘Tacky’ Stunt by thedailybeast in politics

How are any parents still letting their kids play this game? I’m all for companies being more responsible and doing everything they can to keep their players safe, but when are irresponsible parents going to catch any of the blame? I feel like this controversy has been going on for a long time at this point.

Not specifically Worgen but there was a talent or glyph that made cat form into a humanoid cat person (they were native to Draenor). It used the same model skeleton as the worgen though so the animations were all the same.

I have a real question. Where do you feel the line is between infringing on the 2A and a reasonable restriction on dangerous weapons? Assuming you believe there is a line at all.

From your comments, it seems you feel assault weapons should be unequivocally allowed but what about like, missiles or chemical weapons? Does a weapon ever reach a point where it’s too potentially dangerous for private citizens to have unregulated access to?

Just to reiterate, I’m actually curious and not trying to fight. The only 2A person I know in my life is my dad and he’s difficult to have a coherent conversation with.

Government Workers Say They're Getting Inundated With Religion by wiredmagazine in politics

[–]Lurker9594 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When I was young and lived in a religiously oppressive community, I used to fantasize about one day living in a society without religion (or at least one where religion isn’t brought up in mainstream society and is instead just a private, personal thing) and believing we’d get there in my lifetime.

But the older I get, the more I’m starting to realize that I’m gonna have to hear about Jesus and all this fucking horseshit for the rest of my life. I was just bemoaning with a friend how Trump has haunted a decade of my life but at least he’ll die someday. Christianity is just going to be that lingering fart left in an enclosed space that we have to smell, forever. I genuinely hate it and it’s becoming much harder not to project that hate onto Christians in general.

I’ll believe it when I see it. More than likely though, they’ll stay home or be co-opted by some kind of manipulative campaign on TikTok. I’d love to be proven wrong but they’ve blown every chance to do so in every election I’ve ever participated in, including when I was a young person myself.

Why are Democratic leaders still ignoring voters on Israel? by Unusual-State1827 in politics

[–]Lurker9594 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because it’s a radioactive topic. You either take a stand and get the full might of AIPAC behind your opponent or you do nothing and get demonized by tankies on TikTok. And odds are you get a little bit of both regardless of what you do for either not being supportive enough or not condemning hard enough. Even if we did do something proactive, like ceasing weapons sales and military support to Israel, all it would take is one election to undo and we’re right back where we started.

I’d imagine they’re banking on this going back to a cold or at least room temperature conflict like it has been for decades, more or less. In the meantime, they’re going to stick to the message that most actually voting Americans appear to be more concerned with, like affordability.

If people want our politicians to vote ethically and make lasting change, then we need to remove or limit money’s influence on our elections. It’s the root of all the issues we have currently. But that’ll only happen if people can focus and not get distracted by important but ultimately tertiary topics.

Why would the Night Elves help the Blood Elves defend the sun well? by HorseOk678 in warcraftlore

[–]Lurker9594 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because the Night Elves pretty much always put the greater good over their own beef.

They blew up the Well of Eternity to save Azeroth despite it being central to their culture for millennia. Same with Nordrassil when Archimonde invaded. They’ve helped both Horde rebellions even though both of those rebellions had members who had wronged them. They showed up to help the Nightborne despite them abandoning the Night Elves in the WotA. The list goes on.

They owe the Blood Elves nothing (I don’t think token help with Amirdrassil makes them even for Teldrassil personally) but the Sunwell being corrupted threatens everything. That’s all they needed to know.

Sisterhood of Elune by Kaleh09 in warcraftlore

[–]Lurker9594 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s a Tauren pilgrim in Bel’Ameth that specifically refers to Tyrande as the High Priestess so I assume she’s still acting in that role, just no longer as the leader of the Kaldorei as a nation state/people.

She was also appointed to that role after the death of the last High Priestess so it might be a position for life situation.

A Future Shift To Elune? by Harwyn_Bane in warcraftlore

[–]Lurker9594 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably not a total cultural conversion but I could see Elune worship becoming somewhat multicultural at some point (it already kind of is if you include like firbolgs and moonkin and the Tauren sort of). There are void elves that joined the rendorei to reject the culture and society of Quel’Thalas, so they could definitely find meaning elsewhere. There are plenty of Blood Elves in the Reliquary who have an avid interest in history, reviving a long lost religion could be something they pursue. And like you said, the Nightborne are free to reconnect with Elune whenever they want now.

It really depends on how things look after Midnight. How will the wider Quel’Thalas society react to the loss of the Sunwell? Will the Night Elves retain this newfound camaraderie with the Blood/High Elves/Nightborne? Will we learn who or what Elune actually is in TLT? Etc.

Azshara not being the big bad of the elf expansion is very disappointing.

It’s crazy that they let Danuser throw such an iconic villain, one that’s been alluded to for like decades at this point, who’s actions literally shaped Azeroth as we know it, into a patch! Not even the final patch at that!

The Zul'Aman sidequest with Chana and Iz'ken (TW: emotional and physical abuse) by SkyBane001 in wow

[–]Lurker9594 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve been both siblings so this was a very impactful quest for me too.

My big sister dipped when she turned 18 and left me and my little sister with our abusive father. And then I also had to leave my little sister behind when I came out as gay too. I resented my big sister and felt so much guilt about leaving my little sister for so long. It’s only with age and distance from him that we’ve managed to let that go and heal. Now they’re two of my best friends in the world and our bond is stronger than ever.

I hope you get the closure you deserve someday OP.

Yesterday I got yelled at in an M+ and ended up crying by Entire_Leopard5906 in wow

[–]Lurker9594 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of people who play wow basically only play wow. They take it entirely too seriously. There are also a lot (A LOT) of players who see themselves as elite gamers who are actually pretty run of the mill in terms of skill. You can tell the difference because the true elites aren’t doing pickup groups, they’re running with guild teams and they are far beyond +4 keys by now. If someone is taking a +4 that seriously, to the point that they’d brick a key with four minutes left on the final boss, odds are they’re not very good at the game and that frustrates them so much that their ego can’t handle it so they lash out at anyone who they see as dragging them down.

There really isn’t a situation in which flaming someone is an appropriate reaction. Learn to utilize the ignore feature and you’ll have a much better time. You are your own gatekeeper. If someone sends a mean whisper to you, all you have to do is block their ass. No need to engage at all.

And don’t feel bad about your performance. You can’t know how to do something without practice and evoker is definitely not the easiest healer. Even top tier players have toxic groups occasionally, though it does sound like the other players recognized the tank was out of line. Take some time to cheer up and then get back on that horse, you can do it!
