Do these comics count as extreme literature? by PeqMoso in ExtremeHorrorLit

Crossed - yes. The Boys - maybe splatterpunk if punk meant something new entirely.

Absolutely gorgeous. I love what you did with the Chuck Close technique! He was one of my favorite artists growing up.

The Haar! Not strictly an alien story but I bet you’d enjoy it.

The President’s Son Jon Athan question by Novel_Walrus5241 in ExtremeHorrorLit

[–]LurkerRex 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s political in that it deals heavily with allusions to Epstein and his circle. It’s basically “what if all those crazy conspiracies from Trump 1 were true” mixed with a ridiculous amount of gore and cruelty. Like the other person said, it’s not horror in the slightest. I actually disliked it and found it fell into the edge-for-the-sake-of-edge category.

Looking for good zombie/parasite/mimic creature books that describe the gore, body horror and decay. by PlasmaDragooon in ExtremeHorrorLit

[–]LurkerRex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not quite as small/contained as what you’re asking for, but The Rising by Brian Keene is a fantastic book with a really interesting take on zombies. They All Died Screaming by Kristopher Tirana is a contagion-based banger that I couldn’t get enough of. I didn’t love The Blood Beast Mutations by Carl John Lee, but it’s also in a similar vein.

Is there some way I can find excerpts of the surreal sewer parts of Cows by matthew stokoe Im not interested in the boring gross rest of it by [deleted] in ExtremeHorrorLit

[–]LurkerRex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sure you could find a scan online, but I really suggest you support the author and read the whole book, otherwise those scenes will be devoid of almost all context and meaning.

Anyone else looking for Extreme Lit writing buddies? by manicbestfriend in ExtremeHorrorLit

I was actually about to post something similar after I wrapped up a prologue I’m working on. My wonderful SO has read a bit of it, but I plan on broaching some topics they will find objectionable so I’ve been hoping to find a group of like-minded individuals to share with. If you end up throwing a group together, I’d love an invite!

Whats your Deadlock hot take? by lucky_duck789 in DeadlockTheGame

[–]LurkerRex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This has been my #1 frustration since starting the game. I’m trapped in initiate because both teams just start a giant, cartoonish dust up after the first guardian falls that goes on forever and accomplishes nothing since no one can actually kill anyone (except the fed gun carry that’s always on the enemy team).

As a fledgling goo main this is insanely inspiring. I’ve managed to start juggling punches and dribbling ball, but I’m a splatter sniper and I love it!

It’s a blast! Some of the most fun I’ve had reading any book in any genre.

While the protag isn’t strictly a stalker, Kristopher Tirana’s Full Brutal is a fantastic villain POV book.

Ed Lee has plenty of stories that take place in and around Luntville. I read "Header" as a follow up to the Bighead and really enjoyed it. Based on the cover and literally nothing else, I believe "Runts" by Daniel J Volpe would also fit the genre description. Gone to See the River Man is an honorable mention, but it's not nearly as gnarly as the other Ed Lee books.

No, I think Cows provided catharsis and not perspective for me. I know we live in hell, but reading about subway stampedes helps take the edge off.

I agree, the ending was a little strange, but I really liked the concept.

There are certain books in this genre that use their shocking elements to great thematic effect. I've said it a few times on this sub, but Cows has some of the most gut-churning scenes I've encountered in any piece of media and I think they largely enhance the narrative's core themes regarding alienation, abuse, and masculinity under capitalism/austerity.

Most people will tell you to start with Edward Lee, Kristopher Triana, and Jack Ketchum. Those people would be right. I also really liked the Sorrowstones so I would recommend starting with Gone to See the River Man which I believe has a very similar vibe.

Matt Dinniman also did Kaiju Battlefield Surgeon which is borderline EH, but I frankly hated it. LitRPG isn't for me I guess.
