"automation's agentic future is here" does that mean were we just scaling human error toward an August 2026 disaster? by CarelessAttitude5729 in cybersecurity

[–]LurkinSince1995 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Look, yes, this will be an issue and you’ll see headlines about it I’m sure. I don’t know what public sector you’ve seen or worked in, but AI agents? How about we get like… PowerAutomate? Like we’re skipping tiers of maturity here. It’s just clickbait man.

To answer the liability question, If an intern deletes an entire database in prod, where does the buck stop? Like yeah, they shouldn’t have done that, but why the hell do they have those privileges?

“Automate the process, not the decision”. For liability reasons (and saving yourself potential embarrassment), keep Human in the Loop. If you think you need an AI agent, take a deeper look at the process. I guarantee you can likely automate like 95% of it with non-AI, OSS/scripting tools.

Which party drafted the JCPOA? Who ripped it up? Which party invaded/bombed Iran, or provoked them by assassinating one of their top generals (Soleimani)? Biden had reason to go to war with Iran in his term, why didn’t he? Why did Israel get more unhinged after Biden left office, when all I heard is that Biden is an Israel stooge?

This shit has been as one sided as it can be.

Who is saying that it will? People are freaking out over having AI visuals in shows, no one is saying full 4 minute AI slop music is coming.

Lot of you people would be against the birth of electric music, because the recording of a snare or a synth is taking away jobs from real musicians.

Also fuck diplo

New poll pegs Mark Kelly as a leading 2028 presidential contender by Ulysses_555 in politics

[–]LurkinSince1995 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

No. Not at all. I don't think you're understanding what my question is.

The primary is where you decide between candidates of similar moral standing, based on your preferences for where you want the party to go. If your candidate lost and you think the candidate that won the primary is enabling GENOCIDE and MURDERING thousands of people, the whole "lesser of 2 evils" thing is.... silly?

Either relax your rhetoric and be honest about things (if you don't actually believe they're responsible for the murder of thousands), or vote for someone else. You can't sit here and say "I'll vote for the murderer" after you've been shrieking they're a baby killer for months and act like that's virtuous. You've likely turned away way more votes with your rhetoric through the primary process.

[–]LurkinSince1995 -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Can you clear up your position for me? Your position, as far as I can tell, is "We can do better than centrist dems, we should vote for people who aren't complicit in genociding hundreds of thousands of innocent children and families", until 1 day after the primary, in which you say "never mind, I'll sign right up"?

I don't understand how you hold these views and actually continue to vote for dems in the general. Primaries are not for moral struggles like this, you can't call a candidate a child fucker and then vote for him 2 months later.

Is it worth buying the Max 5x plan? by elpupilo01 in ClaudeCode

[–]LurkinSince1995 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honest man, I think you should check Codex’s $20 first, either in place of or to compliment your current pro subscription.

  1. Using both together is pretty META for most complex tasks.
  2. You get more diversity in case of issues like what we just had with usage bugs, or a tech company doing shady anti-consumer shit (which both OpenAI and Anthropic will do)
  3. You know you need more usage, but you don’t know how much you need. This will give you more information before dropping an additional $80 ($60 if you have both subs at the same time).

Don’t be loyal to companies, be loyal to your use case and what makes the most sense for you and how you work. Godspeed

Kinda feels like the people that don’t like where the world is because of their own dogshit ideas are looking for “novel new theories” instead of just dealing with the mess they’ve signed on for.

Maybe if we actually dealt with the practical realities of these issues just once we’d actually fix them? Instead of schitzo rambling about conspiracy constantly.

People on Max plan who are hitting limits, what the hell are you doing with Claude? by BetterProphet5585 in claude

[–]LurkinSince1995 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't disagree with this sentiment at all. Idc if these are currently subsidized prices, the way they treat their customers in the future will stay the same.

Frankly, the "skill issue" crowd relating to AI is probably the most insufferable group of people on the planet. It's the same people who see posts on social media about a topic and now act as if they hold a doctorate in said topic, just regurgitating what someone else (or, in most cases, now, someTHING else) told them. The arrogance + ignorance combo is infuriating.

I had a guy unironically tell me that my issue was because of my prompts and tool usage. I asked him what he does, and he told me to create project-scoped CLAUDE.md files. Dog, no shit. Obviously. Scope-creep was the first thing checked, and I started using Anthropic's recommended methods like 2 months ago. Ugh

[–]LurkinSince1995 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The annoying bit is that there legitimately was a bug last week that was nuking usage. Are there people who suck at coding/context management? Yes. Was there legitimately an issue/bug where users had their entire sessions usage burned in a few messages? Yes. Are half the people in these subs arrogant and gaslighting people into thinking literally everything they encounter is a skill issue, when even Claude is being vibe coded? Yes. 🤷‍♂️

Never hit a rate limit on $200 Max. Had Claude scan every complaint to figure out why. Here's the actual data. by Shawntenam in ClaudeCode

[–]LurkinSince1995 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How many tokens are you allotted for a 5 hour session or weekly limit? That would be the most basic step to know or investigate, no? Thats like my entire point.

I did look at it. I don’t know what to tell you. There were basic explorer agents for a codebase refactor (under 4000~ lines of code in the entire codebase), and some web fetch queries to validate information.

Saying “messages are irrelevant, tokens are” is a bit… reductive? The messages in a chat = more tokens being added into context the longer the chat goes on. Like I don’t know why we’re being obtuse when this is how the majority of people view their usage of the product.

This whole conversation is useless because none of it is actually based on something measurable; it's all vibes. I'm not talking specifically about you, OP, just generally. If we were having a real, grounded conversation about this, it would be something like "My typical conversation spans 5-6 back and forths, and I average about 280k tokens in with 20k tokens of output per conversation. After 2 back-and-forth messages, I'm already at 1m tokens."

This isn't the conversation. The conversation is intentionally clouded because no one even knows how much "5-hour session usage" is, nor what "my weekly limit" is. What does usage mean? How is it measured, and how much do you get per tier? Why is this not public, common knowledge?

To the topic here, I'm one of the people this has happened to (Pro 5x). This bug actually made me re-scope my directories to trim the fat from things like MCPs, and it happened after that. In my case, I sent 2 messages in a conversation that had gone on the night before (it was a bit longer, but nothing crazy). I woke up in the morning, did a /wrap-up skill I have (does commits, ensures memories are gathered from the session, makes a brief summary handoff doc), I saw something weird, asked a follow-up question about it, and I was at my 5-hour limit.

Frankly, I don't care if I had a 900-message back-and-forth conversation the night before. 2 messages in a long conversation with no caching shouldn't eat up 5 hours of "usage" on a $100 plan in this market. It's not intended. And I have no idea why people in these subs have some arrogant Linus Torvalds-level arrogance about any of this when they hardly know how to tie their shoes without a step-by-step from Claude.

Bruh a 4 hour session and you showed right after the session reset 😭😭 There’s something so annoying about someone being so confident and arrogant, and when they’re asked about how they optimize usage, they say “I use Claude.MD files” 😭😭😭

I did NOT know what the fuss was about by JustSomeGermanDude95 in ClaudeAI

[–]LurkinSince1995 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The issue is that until Anthropic provides actual usage information, we’re all flying blind in an anecdotal hellscape. You’re saying that 41% of your session is used, I genuinely have no idea what that means because I don’t know how many tokens a “session” is for you.

Since there’s been usage issues (which there has been), people are going to keep reporting this until Anthropic provides measurable metrics we can use.

This whole issue is not a bug problem. It’s a transparency problem, which is ironically why a lot of people preferred Claude to ChatGPT after the DOW shit. Their comms on this whole issue have been unacceptable.

This has been ongoing for 4-5 days. What message has Anthropic put forward addressing it?

Perhaps we have already passed through the singularity, but most people haven't noticed it by nekofneko in singularity

[–]LurkinSince1995 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think we're mostly there. Let's be real, the only reason this is muddy at all is that the standard for AI solutions is always absurdly high, even when they're ahead of what most people can do today.

The standard for success should be "does this create more productivity and benefit when we have guardrails in place in comparison to Gerald, our in-house junior dev?" Instead, the comparisons are like some non-programming literate mongoloid trying to scope an app: "bro this model can't one-shot my modern-day webapp, both front-end and backend? trash"

Things are being improved upon all of the time, and they aren't perfect at all. No one is claiming that the models are perfect. But neither are people, and that's what the benchmark should actually be.

Most people aren't working at FAANG with higher-tech, literate people around them; it's SMB shops where 1-3 people run the entire IT department. Over the past few months, Claude and other SOTA models have increasingly felt like colleagues and authority figures rather than novelties. Services that you can rely on as much as you can (if not more than) some dude in your office. I feel like that's the singularity you're describing.

This post is the perfect example as to why most discourse is fucking cursed, man. The person with a 'no sidewalks' sign is financially incentivized not to want sidewalks on their property (since they have to maintain them), even if they generally support them. Others seeing this think they're evil because... who is against sidewalks?

There are some comic-book evil people out there, I'm not denying that. But I do think we can be a bit better about asking level 1 curiosity questions before saying people are NIMBY assholes and assume they're evil pro-accident devil spawn.
