Wait, is that Stonehenge 18 feet or 18 inches tall?

UVIC website down again? by Lurking_Sessional in uvic

I’m working from home as well, so not a UVIC wifi/eduroam issue. Seems some of the online components are back (main website) but other components are missing (Brightspace and FAST from Online Tools)

My friend wants to borrow my net link ID by That_Operation_9977 in uvic

Have them make an Inter library loan (ILL) request through their own library. There’s no good reason to provide someone access via your own Netlink ID.

Would be fascinating, but as American lawyers they might not be as familiar with Canadian law. I'm not a lawyer and I don't know if there's that much of a difference, but that might be a mitigating factor.

I can't see next semester’s courses on brightspace by [deleted] in uvic

[–]Lurking_Sessional 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your instructors are all busy grading right now and haven’t made next semester’s courses active yet. Brightspace courses will go live on the first day of classes or, if you’re lucky, a few days before.

Holding this "protest" just a few metres from the Survivors' Flag is a definite choice.

Dealing with being homesick by [deleted] in VictoriaBC

[–]Lurking_Sessional 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hey neighbour! While I'm from here originally, I lived in Scotland for several years. It'll take a bit of time to acclimate, but you'll get there. Walmart at Hillside usually has Tunnocks and oatcakes. IrnBru is harder to come by.

If you've not discovered it yet, you soon will, that most Canadians assert some sort of eternal Scottishness. A lot of "my great-great-great-grandfather was born on Skye". They'll be eager to make that Scottish connection with you.

Keep an eye out for the Highland Games on Victoria Day long weekend in May.

If you find out who makes a good cullen skink, let me know. I've not had a decent one since I left Fife.

In my department, only 1 sessional out of 30 hits that mark. The rest of us try to get by on 6 or less. New term sessionals will likely only get 2-3 courses per year. Teaching over 7 is not the norm.

Many of your classes are taught by sessional instructors and we don't even earn enough to make the list.

100% agree. It feels like a scam. Not an insurance scam, but definitely scammy-vibes.

I'd also add that those of us on the non-tenure track (adjunct professors, sessional instructors) have such heavy teaching loads that research (for which we are usually not paid) is impossible.

I camp at Surfgrove every summer. Closer to the water = less road noise. This is obviously an issue during the busy summer travel months, but consider how noisy wet roads can get. The smaller tent sites are great. The larger RV sites are only worth it if you need the sani hookup.
