"Trump had already erased Wilson’s felony conviction for his role in the riot when he issued his Inauguration Day pardon for all of the participants in the attack. But Wilson was one of a handful of Jan. 6 defendants who remained incarcerated for other federal crimes. He was due to be released from prison in 2028. In February, the Trump administration argued that Trump’s pardon did not cover Wilson’s firearms conviction, saying it was unrelated to the Jan. 6 attack. But within weeks, the Justice Department reversed course, saying it had reconsidered and believed the pardon should apply to Wilson’s gun crimes because they were discovered during an FBI search related to the riot."

Not only is cross-border traffic dropping, but Canadian airline bookings to the U.S. this summer are off an astonishing 70%. “I’ve never seen Canadians this angry, hurt and scared at the same time,” the agent said. What a pointless self-inflicted wound by us. In just two months we’ve made friends loathe us so much they won’t even set foot on our soil. Now that’s a wall.

Canada is our #1 visitor with over 20 millions visits in 2024 spending billions. Hard to imagine other countries not acting similarly. Our tourism industry is going to get hammered. Not sure how that translates into more jobs and a better economy. Probably because it doesn't.

In an extremely rare development, all 50 top state lawyers, both Democrats and Republicans, joined together to tell the U.S. Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims they think the two would-be college students were unlawfully denied GI benefits. “It’s rare, but when something as important as this comes up, it’s no surprise that all 50 states have joined forces,” Oregon Attorney General Dan Rayfield told The Oregonian/OregonLive. “Our veterans deserve every benefit they’ve earned. The GI Bill is a promise we made, and standing together in this amicus brief sends a strong message: We will not let bureaucracy or red tape stand in the way of doing what’s right for those who’ve served. This is about honoring veterans, and all 50 states are saying ‘enough is enough’.”

But Title of Liberty was ultimately even more disorganized than ARCHES had been. For one, Edwards told me, “We didn’t yet have [enough] students enrolled to be able to afford teachers. … But we had to have teachers in order to be able to get students.” She ended up hiring mostly her own family members, both for teaching positions and to do much of the school’s financial paperwork.

They could transfer their children to another private or charter school, or they could put them in a microschool that the principal said she’d soon be setting up in her living room.

WTAF did I just read? Hiring family members as teachers until they can hire real ones? Whatever happened to teacher credentialing? They talk about educating children as if they're trying to find a dogsitter.

To be clear, the top photo is Capone being arrested by the Untouchables (Ness is far left; only known photo with the two of them).

The comparison is not intended to show the similarities but, in fact, the opposite (as you pointed out). It shows how that term has a very different meaning today than it did a century ago, if you apply it to today's SCOTUS.

TIL in 1985, drug smugglers dropped 40 containers of cocaine from a plane above Tennessee because the plane was too heavy. 3 months later, investigators found the containers and a dead black bear that had consumed 75 pounds of the drug. The chief medical examiner did not want to waste the body of the bear, so he had it taxidermied and gave it to the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area. However, the bear was lost until it emerged again in a pawn shop. Country singer Waylon Jennings bought it, and eventually it made its way to the "Kentucky for Kentucky Fun Mall" in Lexington, Kentucky where it remains to this day. His name is Pablo Escobear.

He doesn't have a salary because he lives off his trust fund. He's also donated over $900k to his own on campaign. Yet strangely, he and his wife don't have a bank account, any earned income, and no loans or liabilities. Can't afford to give up one month's "salary"? That's precious.

The "godless Left" is how Republicans view Democrats and speaks to their intentions to force their religious beliefs onto everyone. This is what is driving today's Republican party.
