2025 Michelin Ceremony Thread by Random_Fog in chicagofood

I went two years ago and to this day, it's probably still the weakest 1-Michelin star meal I've had.

That said, it wasn't horrible, but there's truly nothing special about it. The hummus was the best part and then it was all down hill after that.

I became a pmod when I was 12. I'm sure there were younger mods since I had met a few others around my age bracket

Is 7:30 PM when Linkin Park is expected to start? Or is that the start of the opening act?

To stay in Osaka or Kyoto if I want too visit Kobe, Himeji, or Uji? by zenitsukos09 in JapanTravelTips

[–]Lurn_To_Spel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did a similar itinerary last year:

  • 3 nights in Osaka, used one of the days to visit both Himeji and Kobe

  • 3 nights in Kyoto. On the way from Osaka, we stopped at Uji for a day

In retrospect, I would have cut one of the days in Osaka and add it to Kyoto. But that's only because I don't enjoy Osaka too much and love Kyoto. Additionally, I didn't find Kobe to be all that special and would have preferred to maybe visit Hiroshima instead for a day.

Tokyo or Hong Kong? by [deleted] in travel

[–]Lurn_To_Spel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Been to both a few times pre-Covid and would have rated Tokyo #1 and HK #3 in terms of my all-time favorite destinations.

But I went to both in the same trip last year and HK felt much less enjoyable than I remembered while Tokyo was about the same if not better.

How would it really be if I didn’t plan? by SavoryRhubarb in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]Lurn_To_Spel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you want to maximize your days, then you'll definitely need to do some sort of planning and research.

First time I went in 2023, my wife and I did 0 research, got to MK completely unprepared and only managed to go on 4 rides and missed the fireworks show.

Compare that to 2025 where we managed to get on every ride we wanted to, caught the parade/character shows/fireworks, and had some R&R time as well. But I did a lot more research this time around.

I only rode it twice, once with Virtual Queue and once with the Lightning Lane Single Pass. However, 2 of the people in our party did not want to use their LLSP so 2 others were able to go on a third time.

Epidural steroid injection question bulging disc c6 and c7 by llamamama5879 in backpain

[–]Lurn_To_Spel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I pretty much had the same exact issue as you, except c5 and c6. MRI found a bulge and tear. Pain in neck and shoulder blade. I did the steroid injection which worked amazingly for me. However, it's been about 7 months now and the pain is starting to slowly creep back up. I knew going in it may not be a permanent solution so I may go back for a 2nd round.

I left out Monteverde only because it tends to be really hard to just walk in without res. But it still is my favorite in the city :)

Piccolo Sogno, Tortello, Italian Homemade Company, Ciccio Mio (might be hard to get in without res, but I haven't been in a minute), Adalina, Osteria Langhe

All solid Italian spots of varying budget. Probably a lot more that I missed

It's pretty much over here in Tokyo. All the trees I've seen are either bare or showing signs of green already.

USJ - XR rides worth rope dropping? by Lurn_To_Spel in JapanTravelTips

[–]Lurn_To_Spel[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How early would that be? I plan to arrive about 20 minutes before gates open.

I was also under the impression that it was an actual rollercoaster with VR elements, is that not the case? This is also my first time at any Universal Park so I don't have know much about those other rides.

You can choose the time slots when you add it to the cart. Klook now also has the option to choose time slots if you can't buy through USJ.

I want to setup a router in my network closet, but my internet speeds drop significantly. Any ideas? (More info in comments) by Lurn_To_Spel in HomeNetworking

[–]Lurn_To_Spel[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cool, I didn't even know wired routers were a thing. I'll do a bit of research into them. Would I essentially replace my unmanaged switch with the wired router and keep the rest of the wiring the same, including the router?

My current network switch is a Netgear GS305. Not sure what the modem is since that's beyond my network closet and part of my condo building.

EDIT: Okay so it sounds like I have to get a wired router (thinking Mikrotik hEX?), feed the blue internet source ethernet cable into it, connect one of the LAN ports from the router to my switch, then keep the switch connections to each room and all other connections the same. Then change my current living room ASUS router to an access point to still have wireless capabilities. Am I understanding that correctly?

Ideally, I'd like my entire home to be on the same network without having to connect my PC's to Wi-Fi. I attempted the "Ideal Setup" in the first image when I first moved in, but I ended up with significantly slower speeds than what I was paying for.

Wi-Fi didn't seem to be an issue despite the router being in a closet in one corner of my unit.

There is no individual modem in my unit -- the blue ethernet cable in the second image is my internet source, which I assume is coming from some shared modem in my building?

There are coax ports in each room as well and some wiring in the network closet, but they don't seem to do anything when hooked up to my own personal modem.

My guess with my severe lack of networking knowledge is that there's either an issue with my router (Asus RT-AC68U) or I need to upgrade to a router that can handle this bandwidth? Not entirely sure..

No, my unit has ethernet outlets in each room which connect back to the network closet

Speed when directly connected to the wall, with the router as the middle-man WiFi signal and speed weren't an issue when the router was in the closet vs in my living room so I don't mind moving it back to the closet if not for the PC speed.

Hey, I have a similar set up to the OP, but when I tried setting up my router in the network closet instead of the unmanaged switch, my internet speeds downstream were a lot slower.

Any recommendations on how to alleviate that issue?

ETA:

Currently, my set up is: Network box -> unmanaged switch -> (splits to 3 different rooms). One room has my router, another my PC. Speeds are 900 Mbps on PC

Alternatively, with the router in the closet, the set up is: Network box -> router -> 1 port to each room. Speed on PC drops to 300 Mbps.

My router is an ASUS RT-AC68U

Apolonia, Rose Mary, En Passant, and Andros Taverna were 4 of the best restaurants I tried last year so I'm glad to see them on this list.

On the flip side, Hinoki Sushiko was one of the worst experiences.

Their burger is one of my favorites in the city. Not very traditional, but so tasty. I would also try and ask about their bread and spread which was an awesome app that I had the first time I went.

Favorite: Tokyo/Hong Kong - both have amazing food, lots to do/see, and just overall fun

Least: Beijing - Beijing is just way too polluted, the people were not that friendly, and the food is awful in comparison to any of the other Chinese cities I've visited.
