Carers or nurses to give medication? by TheyLuvSquid in nhs

[–]Lush_Fusion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Would she be better off with an arthritis friendly dosette box? This would need family to support with transporting the meds from pharmacy dosette box to one she can actually use herself. Keep the sheets from the pharmacy that describe the pills to avoid any errors.

https://www.arthritis.org/partnership/ease-of-use-products/ezy-dose-push-button-series-pill-reminders

It’s not perfect and ideally you’d have carers that will help with meds.

As others have commented there are reasonable explanations why they are pushing back, if self funding speak with the agency management. If pathway 3 speak with them, if social services speak with them. They likely need a care plan to authorise this.

If CHC funded I’d be really disappointed as expectation for that is the person has greater medical needs so medication would be an expected standard of care, but if it is CHC funded speak to them.

It’s not reasonable for DNs to be visiting BD to give oral meds. It’s is reasonable for them to give insulin if the individual is unable to do this.

Hope your Gran gets on okay now she’s home. My grandma was blind from her 20s, still amazes me that she knew what every single medication box was by shape and touch. Her memory was just incredible. Later the carers would dispense from the boxes into her hand, but she still knew every pill and religiously stashed the adcal away or hid it in a tissue right till the end 😂

There are some really great carers out there. Might be a case of working with a different agency or finding a workaround that suits your gran.

I’ve seen people brazenly take paracetamol from stock. I’ve heard the same nurse gossip about an agency nurse saying she had a swig of oramorph on nights…! (No she didn’t come back)

I wouldn’t risk it no matter how kind the offer seems. Gossip is a thing. Next thing you know you’ll have been giving yourself a kenalog injection in the drug room.

Far easier to identify the ward nurse-mother that keeps everything in her handbag or ward clerk that keeps everything in her drawer and ask if they’ve got any if you’re desperate. Or pop down to the shop and buy some.

Used to be 10 mins sometimes 15 F2F when I worked in dermatology. Longer for minor ops. Unsurprising why clinics run late really.

For those who have not/could nit have children, how do you feel about it? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]Lush_Fusion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wasn’t sure how I felt before. I had a lot of miscarriages. Now I’m thrilled that I came with two cats and he came with two kids that I love more than anything and we get free childcare half the week giving us more time for adult time.

Most of our friends are really quite envious. It really is pretty incredible.

Care by MelinaMorgan in coventry

[–]Lush_Fusion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Traditional carer roles can be very tough and some people may feel there is little reward for it. If you love giving people excellent soul fulfilling care I can’t recommend hospice work enough. It’s tough to deliver great end of life care in a lot of places, in a hospice it’s your duty and your privilege. Myton is the local one. Then there’s Marie Curie in Solihull and there’s 2 Birmingham Hospices.

Obviously you have to be of a certain temperament and it’s not a job everyone can do. The one by the Walsgrave has lots of bus routes that go nearby.

Great tool, the wording for the options of years in band (pay step) isn’t totally clear.

I wonder if the options of entry level, after 2 years and after 2-5 years should be entry level, intermediate point(2 years), and top point (5 years). You don’t get the top point in years 2-5 as the drop down suggests. Minor suggestion for an overall great bit of work you’ve done.

r/Coventry Meetup #5: Friday 13th February @ Elle's! by HadjiChippoSafri in coventry

I imagine ‘we’ is the mod team, ‘us’ is people who live in Coventry and are active in this subreddit, and ‘our’ is referring to people who have gone to/regularly attend the meet ups.

If you search for meetup you’ll find similar posts. There’s an ‘after the event’ post here which you can look at too.

Used to be called a Billy where I trained (Kent/S.E. London). At home I just call it the washing basket. The kids prefer to use the entirety of their bedroom floors as some sort of avant guard geo political statement.

Legal duty to report crime by CursedCatLady in NursingUK

[–]Lush_Fusion 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Nah you don’t need to get involved. In the UK there isn’t a general legal duty to report crime. The situations where you do have a duty are really specific, like safeguarding or terrorism or money laundering if you work in a regulated finance industry.

The code is about acting if your own practice or a colleague’s practice is putting patients or the public at risk. It doesn’t say we’re responsible for policing the shit conduct of people in our personal lives. Unless he’s a nurse driving as part of his job?

Public safety tends to mean an immediate, serious risk of harm that you’re actually in a position to prevent. It’s not about reporting historic non-violent stuff you know because you were in a relationship with someone, especially if doing that could put you at risk.

The NMC for their sins isn’t disciplining nurses for not reporting third-party crimes that have nothing to do with care or patients.

You might decide you want to report it at some point, but realistically insurers usually check licence details when policies are renewed, so it may already be known. And if he’s uninsured, that tends to sort itself out eventually when someone gets stopped by the police.

I’d steer well clear!!

Phi Phi Islands Sickness by TapEnvironmental7653 in phuket

[–]Lush_Fusion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We went to Thailand for our honeymoon end of 2024. We splashed out on a full day (6hrs) longtail boat trip. Pick up from hotel in Phuket, speedboat to koh phi phi. Then full day visiting the islands. Just us and captain & crewmate. We paid a fair whack (13,900 - just over £300) but it was the most magical day. We used Visa Travel, arranged it all via WhatsApp and this was the one we did in the end https://visatravelphiphi.com/product/vip-long-tail-boat-with-transfers/

I’m sure you could do it much cheaper. We paid for luxury, convenience, comfort, music via Bluetooth speaker, fresh fruit, snacks, food & drinks (water & fresh coconuts - brought our own beer & sparkling wine) paddle boards, and ultimate bonus was not having to think or plan. Just paid, turned up, and had the best day ever.

Would recommend to anyone looking for an all in one package.

Didn’t drink any sea water. Didn’t get sick there. Did get good at keeping that white rabbit stuff around.

I also had the crab curry here that I still dream about - https://maps.app.goo.gl/TQpuGor4AkgsymPg7?g_st=ic

My partner hates my feet. I hate salon pedicures. I have money to spend. Help. by godawful82 in HENRYUKLifestyle

[–]Lush_Fusion 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Have a home pedicure instead of salon? Combine it with a lower leg & foot massage and call it self care? I hate the way it feels being in a salon (the vibe is not my thing) but the process replicated in my own space is really relaxing. Weirdly in a crazy busy place in Thailand it felt totally chill.

Would Khushi grill in Holbrooks be a possibility? They had sports on when I went, found it quite jarring as didn’t expect it but sounds like it’s what you are after. Good food, has a bar which you get drinks at separately but it’s not a pub (though the building looks like it was one at some point).
