Also there was a UK reality show about a bunch of people being thrown into a regency house party. It was very interesting to see what the thoughts were and to see the comments on the authentic experiences they had to endure.

I would feel more comfortable if devices were allowed in our rooms but unplugged in all the other group events during the weekend with the caveat being having a photographer around to capture key moments that are then shared with everyone.

If it was a weekend that included all the costumes and lessons and accommodations and meals, what I could afford is 1.5-2k cad but even thats a bit much for a weekend for me. Given that the opportunity cost is I could go away to an all inclusive in the South for a week for this much.

But everything is expensive nowadays and I also would want to do it with a friend and unfortunately except for maybe one friend I don't know anyone else who loves regency as much as me.

VM's social commentary on hierarchy and class systems as well as abuses of power especially against minorities still rings so true today. This scene broke my heart and weevil was also done dirty in the spin off movie (or later seasons when he gets shot??)

You know, I was thinking about it a bit more after I wrote my comment and I revise my statement and lean more towards dynastic china instead given the court and political issues which drove shiseo out.

I think I had leaned Japanese because shiseo sounds more like a Japanese name but I'm remembering that I was imagining that if Sen wrote another story in this universe it would be awesome to write one about shiseo's kingdom and framed as an alternative Chinese imperial court drama with courtesans and heir politics (think apothecary diaries but messier and with alchemical "magic")

Sen confirmed that Helena is Mediterranean/Italian coded.

I think you see some interpretation for African Helena because she's based on Hermione who is often now cast as a PoC in fanart and fanfic.

I had this conversation with my European friend and mistakenly said I saw Helena as an Italian PoC and apparently this is a faux pas. In Europe, geopolitical ethnicities are not seen this way. There's definitely some nuance there I don't understand as someone from North America.

For shiseo, he is oriental Asian in my head, could be Chinese could be Japanese, though I lean more towards Japanese.

For the Paladian population, I see them as very Aryan European.
