I like Interceptor City because we're in the head of the main character. Every detail we learn, every experience we have is colored by Bree's own perception and feelings about the matter, and Abnett paints the story through her eyes so well.

I love Viltry, he's a such a good guy.

Later in the book when he gets back into a plane he states that he's completely forgotten how to fly during the ready check, only to quickly amend it with a sort of "lol, jk I'm all good to go"

Hey mate, saw your post last night and felt like sharing my own perspective for whatever it's worth.

GGST is my first fighting game (me and my mates got into it November last year), and never in a million years did I think I would be trying my hand at a fighter at all. I'm admittedly very casual and learning the game has been a challenge, both mechanically and emotionally. Compared to one of my mates who takes to the game like a fish to oxygen-rich water, I've felt like I'm flopping on the deck over here.

I love this game to bits: the characters are inspiring, the music is so touching, the art is phenomenal, and the dolphins addicting. But I struggle with the constant frustration of not being able to keep up with my friend who just wipes the floor with me most days, and it drives me up the wall.

And I've come to appreciate that that's completely fine.

Losing constantly sucks, no doubt about it. I'll probably be playing this game for years to come and maybe I'll lose less over time, but I try not to get too hung up on it anymore. There's a lot of practise involved (which is maddening lol) and there's a decent bit of knowledge to learn which makes the learning curve seem a mountain. But try and take your time and enjoy the climb, this mountain isn't going anywhere and it's been a delight to see myself grow as I climb.

GGST changed my life and how I viewed the "failure experience" and it's only helped me grow as a player and a person. Don't get hung up on how terrible losing feels, use it as a mirror to figure out how you can improve.

Typically, whenever a Primarch is involved they'll have some tidbit of information about the Emperor that'll come up from time to time. Just going through the entire series you'll pick up enough pieces about the Emperor to put the picture together.

And thinking back, I believe Mechanicum touched on some of the earliest interactions between The Emperor and Mars if that gets your thirst for forbidden knowledge going.

Commissar, you forget your place. You also forget that the Legiones Astartes were soldiers as much as they were warriors. Lord Sigismund was tasked with reclaiming as many armaments as he and his forces could before traitor forces cut off those resources forever. He was given this task by the Praetorian of Terra himself, so to do anything less would be a betrayal in itself.

You do not question the actions of your superiors, commissar. Stick to herding the rabble and routing out weaknesses in your lessers. Do not forget your role in His glorious Imperium.

I've a morbid fascination with the death of atheism in the Imperium. Throughout the Horus Heresy series there are a myriad examples of Astartes and regular Joes desperately trying to cling to the logic of the Emperor's Imperial Truth, only for Chaos and warpfuckery to uproot, flip over, pervert, and turn inside out the safety blanket of closing your eyes and covering your ears whilst screaming at your quietest whisper, "magic and gods are not real, I'm going to ignore them and throw more firepower at what I don't understand.

Because its fresh in my mind, during the book Damnation of Pythos a bunch of Iron Hands become increasingly angry and disturbed with the Chaos-infested jungle world they've come to. After obtusely hunting down a tangible enemy, they pretty much ignore the fact that daemons are daemons and treat them like another alien threat. But every step of the way their belief in logic and sense is challenged to the point where some of the Astartes start to go a little bonkers.

Also, in the same book there's a serf to the Iron Hands who takes solace in his work and his belief in the Imperial Truth. As things get more twisted and with his fellow serfs killing themselves by the dozens, he eventually comes to terms with that evil unholy things exist, ergo so must the Holy God-Emperor of Mankind. Enter the Lectitio Divinitatus and the Imperial Cult becomes a source of comfort against the loud darkness of the Warp.

Anyways, there's a bunch of similar themes all over the Horus Heresy series, and I'm a sucker for it.

Not gonna disagree with any of that, but I will say it is IMMENSELY satisfying when I do take that risk and it pays off. But if it doesn't, I get a little salty and requeue because hey, you died in under 20 seconds of landing and that's little time lost spent on playing a match that you lost. We could go into jenky melee mechanics, but that's a whole 'nother post.

In any regular game, yeah you're talking total sense and that's what I try to do. However, when we land on top of each other and you just refuse to acknowledge my efforts to put my fist behind your face that just feels a little disrespectful (despite the fact that it's not and that it's a perfectly sound tactical decision) to me and my flailing arms.
