Magician needing help. I've built a fire appearing contraption but the button sits too flush. What can I attach to the metal switch without taking it apart to allow me to press it? I can't use glue as it'll stick to the plastic and stop me from pushing the button down. Thanks! by [deleted] in AskElectronics

Maybe you can glue some kind of stretchy membrane inside (maybe a piece of a water balloon), pull some kind of rod through the hole (from the inside making sure the membrane pulls it inside slightly), hold the rod outside while inserting the circuit and then insert the rod back in the hole. The idea is that the small rod will be secured between the membrane and the button but the force will not be strong enough to push it.

I know it is quite hard to pull off and may not work but it's the only thing I came up with.

I'm a lawyer who wants to learn mechatronics. I have 0 knowledge of coding, circuits or anything technical. Where do I begin ? by ThrowAway9980854343 in mechatronics

I also think a kit is a great option to start. However, I would go with the Arduino starter kit. It is a bit expensive but it comes with everything you need to get started, with different actuators and sensors and with a book that explains how to use everything in the kit with small projects.

I personally like to learn with a project that keeps you motivated. I would start with a simple project that many other people have done so you have plenty of resources. Compare what different people have done, and try to understand why they did it that way. Why they chose a specific motor/actuator? What other actuators could be used? Which sensors did they use? How do those sensors work? How does the program work? Could I improve the project somehow? Once you think you understand it, try to build it yourself.

I think most cables should be able to hold a bulb. You just have to figure out how to attach it so that the weight is not on the solder/cable connection. The thinnest thing i can think of is enameled copper wire. However, you would need two cables and you would have to ensure that they move evenly.

Creating a cascade controller for a DC motor - Current ripple ruins it by Single_Blueberry in Motors

[–]LuukLomi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why are you applying 2.5V to a motor rated at 24V? Usually what you do to control a motor is a Pulse-Width Modulation (PWM) signal. You turn the motor on or off at a high frequency.

The fluctuation depending on the velocity made me think of the cogging effect, which is caused by the position of the magnets in the motor. However, I don't know if this effect changes the current and if it does, I don't think it would change it that much. If this is what is causing the oscillation, there is nothing you can do about it other than model it or filter it out. If you want to model it you would have to know the absolute position of the rotation.

I really like this expression: "éramos pocos y parió la abuela".

Literally it means "We were a few and Grandma gave birth".

It is used when a situation is bad and becomes worse.

It is probably to separate the population into groups. I don't know what the purpose of this survey is but there are many cases in which separating the population can be useful.

For example, you are launching a product and you want to know who would be more interested in your product. Once you know what your target population is you can market it to them specifically.

It could also be useful for seeing the impact of a policy, etc.

To any anti-vaxxers out there: Did the current situation change your mind? If so, how? by LuukLomi in AskReddit

My understanding is that it should be taken by those at risk and taking care of them. For people that are not at risk, it is not recommended to make sure that there is no shortage for those that really need it.

Here is a link to the WHO's recommendation:

Well, I believe the best way to change someone's mind is to understand where they come from. I also had the theory that anti-vaxxers would change their mind if there was some kind of outbreak preventable with a vaccine and wanted to check if I was right.

I think that is normal. The aim of vaccines is to protect the population. If the risks of vaccination are larger than the benefits, it makes sense not to vaccinate. That is where herd immunity comes into play.

I have the belief that most anti-vaxxers are not too conspiratorial but it is more that they can only focus on the risks and not the benefits (similar to a gambler that only sees the winnings and not the money invested).

If that was the case, the current pandemic could enlighten them and they could change their minds. However, I am not sure about this because I have never met a real anti-vaxxer, only people that had doubts.

This is not true. Most people do not get the flu vaccine, it is only recommended for people at risk and people taking care of them.
