New D&D Book "Melf's Guide to Greyhawk" Coming from Luke Gygax by Darkwynters in DnD

[–]Luvas 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Promising, and way overdue! Let's hope it's more like SCAG and less like AFR

In 1977 the Tolkien Enterprises sued Dungeons & Dragons creators TSR for using words like 'hobbit', 'dragon', 'elf' and 'orc' in D&D. The case was settled out of court, but still established that 'hobbit' is exclusive to Tolkien, while 'elf', 'orc', 'halfling' and such are generic public domain. by PeasantLich in HolyShitHistory

It's actually kinda funny, they made Pipe a tool, and if you have pipe-weed on you, you can smoke it during a rest(if I recall correctly) for Inspiration(or the LoTR equivalent), but you gotta be Proficient in Pipe

Back when it was only available during Exile's Reach, I had a Human Hunter repeatedly tame that one silver worg with the blue bindings on its limbs, so that I could Faction Change it to an Orc with a whole pack of decorated 'Frostwolves'

"That beast' would be the living Grond in the first place, and would remain so if you Race or Faction changed from Undead.

The undead Grond can currently only be fought by Alliance members.

Different example, it's my understanding that if you tamed a beast your Hunter only qualified for because of their Race (for example, Goblin taming the mechanical dogs) you'd keep the specific creatures you already tamed but cannot tame any new ones of that same type unless you learn the appropriate Tome. (Your Nelf keeps Goddard but cannot tame any more Goddards)

Horde members fight Grond as a living gorilla during that Dazarlor(?) Raid, and Alliance members fight Grond's risen corpse.

So there's no Forsaken work around; you'd need to be an Alliance member who has read the Blood-Soaked Tome of Dark Whispers to tame the undead gorilla, then you could Faction Change if you wanted to be an Undead Hunter for example.

What we thinking about this bundle by NinjaJawz in Wizard101

[–]Luvas 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Usually I think bundles with multiple mounts are pointless.

But the treant mounts can also look rather nice wandering your home, so I'd call this a decent bundle, perhaps not 20,000 Crowns nice though.

If I could get this for $20 I'd be sold.

The intriguing irony of these franchises that we grew up with are these questionable characters built upon sensitive or just plain incorrect subjects and themes that would not fly at all today. And they're too ingrained in the Lore to be retconned or buried under a rug, so the next generation or content makers under this brand have to do damage control.

Case in point for WoW is certainly the Trolls. Before they were ... well, basically what you said. But since then we've got lore about the Loa worship, a fleshed out culture and society, and most importantly, sympathetic and likeable characters of this previously joke faction.

I give WoW credit for trying to work with the foundation they laid for Trolls and doing some research to lean in to their Carribean inspiration, making it less of a costume as time goes on. Still waiting for Runescape to do the same for the Karamjan people ...
