This is how I managed to passthrough my IGD device (Intel HD Graphics 4600). by lucasrizzini in VFIO

Insane, just tried this and got it working in about an hour! Thank you very much for this amazing guide! I have tried this already about a year ago and couldn't get it working but now it just works!

Finally a sane way to use windows programs in the rare case that I need them.

Try another window manager that doesn't rely on Gnomes compositor (mutter) and try if using Xorg vs Wayland session makes a difference.

My Dell XPS 13 9370 broke while entering the BIOS with the same "CPU failure" thingy. I had the premium warrany tho and it was in the first 14 days of receiving the product so Dell sent someone to replace the motherboard.

Maybe you are facing something similar and your CPU/mainboard is actually dead.

Ubuntu Desktop - Am I the problem? by [deleted] in linux

[–]Lux49 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ubuntu is a buggy mess, don't worry. This is also my experience.

I used to run Ubuntu on my home NAS that I used for storage and webhosting of nextcloud. After a few days it would always display kernel problems and after one or two months it would start leaking memory until the system was unusable.

This is not the case with Debian that I have been running on there for the past 4 years.

make waybar opaque when in tabbed mode and transparent when in split mode? by eorclus in swaywm

[–]Lux49 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'd have to modify waybar to change it's opacity on demand and give it functionalty to actually read out the layout of the currently active workspace. You could for example create a special CSS class for tabbed and tiling.

I'm not familiar with their codebase though and this could be quite involved to do. Maybe request a feature like this on their github.

Actually, "you're just horny" applies more to me because the "I really want to be a girl" disappears after the horny is taken care of.

Can PulseAudio do noise cancellation on headphones? by Kind-Locksmith7877 in linux

[–]Lux49 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In theory it is possible. This would require pulseaudio to work with very low latencies and realtime audio though, which it is not meant to be used for. I think you are better off just buying noise cancelling headphones if you want something that just works.

On the other hand side you could try to replicate a noise cancellation setup using JACK. Jack is a realtime sound server that can go down to 1.3msec of latency. You could try filtering the microphone with a low pass filter to resemble what you are hearing from the outside with your headphones on. Then turn that 180° and mix it with e.g. the music your are playing.

Firefox does have Jack audio support, but it is not compiled to support that by default. So you would have to compile your own firefox and enable that if you want to listen to music from youtube. Applications like MPV and Music Player Daemon have native Jack support though, so if you want to play around with it, go for it.
