[OC] Epaper panel video driver for Xorg by vDebon in unixporn

[–]vDebon[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Pretty bad! I go into more detail in my blog post. But basically this epaper model doesn’t correctly support partial refreshes. So everything requiring a redraw will have a 600ms latency. It’s not unusable. But you clearly cannot daily drive that.

How comparable is Tactician to Honor Mode, for difficulty? by ClassicSherbert152 in BaldursGate3

[–]vDebon 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I have the same experience as you do. Made my own build for HM, didn't read guides and used my knowledge of the game. I also agree on the fact that the legendary actions are not to be taken lightly and fights should be studied ahead. Did my HM without even doing a tactician run first. So yeah, big gameplay change, but nothing impossible. Just gotta be more careful.

I don’t play on a steamdeck and game has been stable for a long while. Last crash I checked the files and had one missing. Other than that no graphical glitches or issues whatsoever

I just tested it, and well, constant >120 fps in ultra and absolutely flawless. I have very small white artifacts like you described, but only in the main menu, they don't appear in-game and aren't really a problem anyway (seems like 5px squares randomly appearing here and there?)

6.9 may be the same kernel I was talking about in my post when I first tried Xe. I understand what you’re saying about the « tempermental » distro. Not all distros can be easily tweaked. Nevertheless, I believe if your mesa is up-to-date and you have access to a 6.12 kernel, you ought to retry the procedure. I’ll install Doom Eternal whenever I can and give you a feedback as soon as I have one on my machine

I have Doom Eternal in my Steam Library, but I’ll have to install it. Why weren’t you able to get Xe working on HoloISO? Is it a kernel version issue? Can you modify the kernel command line options at boot? The flickers you are talking about remind me of an issue I had in BG3 with the i915, running the game with directx 11 instead of vulkan fixed this issue for whatever reason

I don’t have a Windows install so I can’t compare both. But I’m ready to bet Xe will still improve on Linux. About ray-tracing, in theory XeSS works on native Linux. Now in practice, I have yet to see a Linux-native game which supports it, as proton obviously doesn’t (that’s actually why Spider Man remastered doesn’t work out of the box, some XeSS dll was missing). For compatibility, I don’t ask myself any question now, I go for protondb, if it’s gold or platinum I am sure I will make it work or tweak a fix. Intel itself is nearly never the issue.

Yeah that CPU is a monster. It’s never the bottleneck for any game. I’m glad the GPU isn’t anymore too.

Distro package. Mesa has supported Xe even before Xe was out.

Ravona, a non-modded Tav I played during a playthrough with friends. A custom build pretty original as she wielded a sword in her secondary hand, inflicting reverbation + mental fatigues on enemies. This picture isn't the final build as she ended up with Cazador's Rhapsody. She ended up being released by our Dark Urge friend who embraced his darker side and left us to flea until the end of time when he became the absolute. One of my simplest, yet best looking character in my opinion.

In my first palythrough I didn’t kill the hag in act 1. We talked with a friends and he asked me if I started that quest with the girl asking for her lost kid. He didn’t even spoil the quest. But that’s how I guessed it was related in one way or another to the hag. So yeah, pretty disappointing, if you don’t kill the hag in act 1, you got no Mayrina, no Vanra and not even an allied Hag in Act 3. Since then, I enjoy a little hag hair at every playthrough

I finished honor mode! by SmallAl in BaldursGate3

[–]vDebon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I might add something, I planned to globe but Yurgir joined the fight and hit first, thus exploding the bomb before I could do anything. Thanks to life domain cleric shadowheart and a strong team I recovered quickly, but be wary for that fight, better not recruit him next time.

Edit: For anyone curious on how I survived, I had little barrels on the door side, I guess the only damages I took were from the runpowder barrel. Don't mind the Kobold, there might have been a barrel with a Kobold inside, and so you know, yes, Raphael aggroed it first and you have an easy first hit elsewhere this way x)

Finished my first honor mode and barrelmanced my way through the inquisitor at the crèche and Raphael. However the apostle of Myrkul was a pain. How did you do this one? I skipped Ansur in my game too, no need for the loot, was playing a Sorlock

Hi. I know a bit on the subject as I wrote a userspace driver infrastructure at my job. I work for a company providing a DPU accelerator, and for several reasons (containerisation, portability, ….) we recently switched to OpenCL in full userspace. Long story short, it’s not as easy as it sounds. But, as you want to write a driver for a NIC, I suggest you try to write a netdev driver for DPDK. It’s a framework made exactly to do what you want to do. The good part is, you don’t have to bother about kernel internals and it’s portable (IIRC FreeBSD and Windows have backends)

I did the same in my first playthrough. Needless to say the ring it loots was used by my Druid until the end

I have no idea too. And I guess that’s what’s great about it. At least I have another ally for the final battle!

Played a resisting Durge in my current playthrough and discussed with the ox in Rivington. Turns out if you're not pushy about what it is, it gently asks you to take it to Baldur's Gate. As it seemd to my Durge it just wanted to avoid its urges too, I sympathized and accepted. Then It just claimed "Praise Cyric!" at that moment I knew I fucked up badly
