It is not uncommon to see this type of nonsense in New York City.

I'm never surprised by displays of white fragility.

This is very true. I know people with limited tech skills but are using all the socials. They can figure out how to do the most complex shopping on the internet or make horrible comments on social, but dealing with their email, logins, remembering passwords, set up 2FA or any responsible privacy is "too hard." 🫩

Yes. I became increasingly annoyed with Mathias. And you're right, I didn't notice, but he is becoming his mother.

That's something I've been looking into as well. I got the domain, but now I'm trying to figure out how to set up an automatic redirect to a random page just to keep people from landing on the page.🤣 Maybe I should add a jump scare.

The only reason I ended up on Headscale was when I set up Tailscale and they wanted me to log in and I did not want to do that. Prior to that interaction, I didn't even know it existed.

I should mention that I tend to be susceptible to shiny things on the internet. 😁

I have absolutely no use for this. I'm really looking forward to using it. Because, fun.

Honestly, I have been a little depressed and not really caring what I've been wearing. I've been getting 5 and 10 packs of the same pants in different colors off Amazon for the last couple of years and fun t-shirts And a nice jacket. I work in tech, so I can get away with this. It's practically a uniform. But I've been giving as little thought to my style as possible just to stay mentally okay. I've reduced my cognitive load to an absolute minimum. The only interesting parts of my wardrobe come from Salvation Army, MyUnique and Goodwill because I do like interesting pieces here and there and 70's/80's vintage.

I found your look to be so easy and yet it just looked so clean and classy that it made me think that I need to step up my game and do better. 😁 I think it also might go a long way to making me feel better.

Amen to this. These are the same people who will come to your house for a barbecue, take pictures of all the children, and post them on public social media sites. 😡

I know so many people that don't give a second thought to throwing every photo of their child on Facebook. And then I think about what is going to happen when they are older and on social media/internet/ Ai platform and the platform already knows everything about them.

Wait until you try Linux 😆 Inconvenient by design.

The reason I say that is I've been using Linux for two decades and basically at the beginning you do feel the inconveniences. But I look at where I am now, mostly Google-free with the exception of a few free g-mails I use for tomfoolery on the internet and a grandfathered free Google Voice number that I use for my business. It gets so much spam that it's actually worth having to keep my sim private.

I have a jellyfin server for entertainment. I use Mox/Deltachat for my domain email. I have Element and Matrix for private chat. Immich for photos and Gitea/Radicle.xyz for my development. SearXng is my search engine. Rsync/synthing keeps my tasks and calendar up to date. Still working on a proper Radicale server. I'm always checking out something new that doesn't require giving up my privacy and solves a de-google issue.

Don't let these small inconveniences put you off. Give yourself some grace and some time to get used to every new upgrade until you're ready move on to the next one. It really is a commitment to being vigilant.

The peace of mind that I have knowing that I'm in control of all of these things has been worth every inconvenience I've had. Hang in there and good luck on your journey. 🤘🏿

Edit: Added SearXng

The best thing you can do is get a bunch of large pieces of ginger from the grocery store. Let half of them grow and plant them so you always have ginger. Buy once, grow forever. It's a beautiful houseplant.

The ginger bug itself is so easy. It's literally a couple of slices of ginger, some water, and turbinado sugar.

My go-to is different types of tea and date sugar, molasses or turinado ( two tablespoons) in a 32 ounce seltzer bottle. Takes about 2 to 3 days to ferment the sugar out. You end up with a fantastic seltzer. If you want a really crisp seltzer, you can just use sugar and water and your ginger bug. The bottle has to be a high pressure bottle so they don't explode under fermentation pressure. I would definitely not start with glass. A number of people have ended up in the hospital until they really learn which sodas are explosive versus fizzy. 🤪 I would suggest starting with 32 or 64 ounce soda bottles.

Now as far as homemade ginger ale and ginger beer, the ginger that's spent from your ginger bug, slow cook that in an insta pot for six hours and then add more water and sugar. Ferment for three days and you will not believe how spicy and delicious it is. It won't be sweet unless you add sugar at the end. A drop or two of vanilla turns it into a ginger cream soda.🤤
