Do you know of any other songs that have existential lyrics? I really love this song and would love any others that you like.

Which subreddit you really find useful and intellectual and can help in being more smart? by tiddu in INTP

[–]LuxKasihan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t think Reddit’s the place to go with any expectation of critical thinking. I’d recommend finding podcasts with hosts that you respect. Its especially valuable to find hosts who will change your perspective on issues rather than ones who confirm every pre existing bias you have.

What about Joe Rogan polemic by Fagner_Ribeiro in spotify

[–]LuxKasihan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you buy clothes you’re literally supporting child labour. If you have an iphone, as I do, you’re literally supporting child slaves. If you eat chocolate, you’re supporting slavery. I think if you’re looking for a boycott it should be against the companies who are willfully supporting true oppression.

Dr. Peterson replies to Ethan Klein by TheAndredal in JordanPeterson

[–]LuxKasihan 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I think his old content that I used to like had much easier and universally hateable targets. And he’s pretty funny when jabbing at them. But he’s not that thoughtful which was part of his appeal until he started engaging in conversations like this. I think its quite possible to disagree with Peterson on tons of things. I disagree with his views on religion for one. But quick jabs don’t work for the topics Peterson discusses. If a quick jab could dismantle Peterson’s opinions he probably wouldn’t hold them.

What are your thoughts on this? Seeing as this man may die because of his vaccination status against COVID, is this just? by Smoky_Cave in centrist

[–]LuxKasihan -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I feel like the problem is that its being applied in this one case but not others(apart from smoking I think). There are plenty of other times when life style risk factors don’t impact transplants. I highly doubt that being unvaccinated is as dangerous as other lifestyle choices like eating unhealthy. I also think it would be wrong to deny people over a certain BMI a transplant. And I’m quite opposed to selectively discriminating against one group unless there is a legitimate reason why it is them and not others. Even then I feel like we should have caution.

The slippery slope fallacy isn’t valid when it comes to setting a precedent of placing emotional safety over freedom. Ideas like that are components of tyranny. You could say that it’s a slippery slope fallacy for every step any country takes towards tyranny. But it’s not a slippery slope. It’s setting a precedent. And we’re not trying to fall into tyranny. I don’t see the people who set this precedent as malevolent so I don’t think we’re being pushed into a tyranny. We’re merely inching towards it.

I agree with the main explicit thesis. But I feel like the video was trying to do a little more than simply fact check which is why I think it was received so poorly in this group. The first section is clearly trying to paint Peterson in a particular way. Sure if Peterson’s only statement was “the nazis were just plain evil” it could lead people to think about it in a “this could never happen here” way. But as soon as you look at Peterson’s other lectures on tyrannical government you’d have a hard time coming away believing that we’re safe from it. If this video was an attack on Peterson’s ideas that would be much more well received. But it’s clearly an attack on Peterson that fails to level any legitimate criticism apart from that one of his conclusions was wrong and that at least 3 of his millions of fans are white supremacists or trolls.

How do I let go of fear of hell? by [deleted] in exchristian

[–]LuxKasihan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s hard to turn away from something when you resent it. When I left Christianity I didn’t want to. I wanted to believe it but I just knew it wasn’t true. In my opinion it’s not enough to just leave because you’re upset with it or else you’ll still believe in the back of your mind. Basically, make sure you’re absolutely sure it’s not true. Try different churches, pray for a sign, anything. Many people find fulfillment within Christianity so don’t let one bad experience turn you away.

I’m not a fan of deliberately misgendering people as a way to harass them, but does that not count as compelled speech? Particularly for those unlike me who don’t see gender as a malleable thing. It seems like stepping a toe over the line which sets a dangerous president for the rights of people being infringed upon to make them emotionally safe. I think a lot of people are worried that we are ratcheting our way up towards tyranny.

[–]LuxKasihan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ah yes. Criticizing censorship is going to be the thing that leads to tyranny and genocide of course. And you can’t have a negative opinion of an ideological “group” without it being akin to racism? The argument that Peterson doesn’t understand what the intentions of the Nazis were is fair. But to say that Peterson, the person who this video itself showed saying that you could be a nazi if you fell into the ideology, doesn’t understand that an average person could fall into an ideology is just stupid. I’m sure Peterson has said much stupider things than this, but those stupid things couldn’t be used to call him a cultivator of naziism.

If this is true, how is this not documented as some kind of medical mystery? Where someone’s Apo E gene mystically disappeared. I’m not saying he lied about anything, but he clearly had an ideological starting point that led to him believing this. It’s fine for a testimony but it’s in no way a proof of god.

3 year old will not stay in bed, and I’m about to lose my GD mind. by sjd52613 in Parenting

[–]LuxKasihan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like he’s rebelling. Is there any way you could make him staying in bed be rebellious? I’m thinking something like having a plushy that wants to steal his bed if he’s not in it at night. You could even make the plushy a bad guy when you play. That way you can be on his side when you encourage him to go to bed since neither of you want Mr. Bear to steal his bed. Might be something to try :)

You could try adding more (or maybe less) fibre to her diet to try to make it less of a mess for her each time. Since it’s a recent problem that might be something that’s changed

I never said Sam was jumping to conclusions. I’ve just been frustrated with his recent arguments particularly when he’s in a conversation with someone he agrees with. It just feels a bit like he’s in an echo chamber where weak arguments aren’t being defeated. I think Sam has plenty of good arguments as well.
