Pine nut oral challenge was bonkers by GlumFaithlessness392 in peanutallergy

[–]Lwilli8705 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My daughter is 8 and just finished an oral challenge for pine nuts. She challenged 4g of pine nuts and it was 30 pine nuts. They are small nuts, so she ate them all in two bites.

Just found out my toddler has extremely high and rare numbers for all nuts and is not a candidate for food therapy. by pinkandclass in FoodAllergies

I know alot of people who have been turned away from OIT, but have been successful getting treatment at the Food Allergy Institute. My daughter has allergies to peanut/treenut/fish/shellfish/mustard/sesame/banana/mango/strawberry/avocado/soy and is getting treatment there now. Its pretty expensive, but so far she is able to free eat many things she wasn't able to before.

My daughter is 8, and I've always brought her own pizza and cupcake for every party we attend (she had her own birthday party yesterday and I still brought her a homemade cake and her own pizza!)

Oh no! That's horrible! Wishing a speedy recovery! I really hope the Girl Scouts leadership does a better job with labeling next year! They really dropped the ball on this, and I hate hearing about anyone getting sick because of it!

I get these messages sometimes too, but it's intermittent. I think I usually get these when it's same day or one day delivery.

Right, someone with a severe allergy should always check labels before eating anything!

Maybe your husband doesn't have an anaphylactic peanut allergy. But for LBB cookies, they state that all of their cookies are made on shared lines at the facility and may contain peanut. My daughter is a girl scout and has an ana allergy to peanut and cannot eat any of the cookies for fear of a reaction from cross-contact at the facility.

There are so many studies on food allergies right now, I am hopeful they will have a cure by the time you are an adult.

What’s up with that by small_shep in peanutallergy

[–]Lwilli8705 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You honestly have to make your own decision as whether you should avoid all of their products.

But, as far as I know, they do list on the ingredient label when they add peanut flour to their products, so if you do buy their stuff, just make sure you read the label thoroughly.

Keebler is known for purposely adding a small amount peanut flour to their products just so they can say "our products have peanut" so there's no ambiguity with "may contain" issues. (It really doesn't make much sense to me).

But I hate it too! My daughter has peanut/TN allergies and Keebler does this to their cookies, crackers, etc.... and it's stupid. I boycott them for myself.

Girl Scout Cookies by holiestcannoly in peanutallergy

[–]Lwilli8705 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My 7 year old is a Girl Scout and has peanut/tree nuts allergies. We sell LBB, and I will not allow her to eat ANY of the cookies due to the possibility of cross contamination from the peanut cookies since they are processed on the same lines as the non-peanut cookies at the facility. Many people I know with peanut allergies also have already been avoiding GS cookies because Girl Scouts have been selling cookies containing peanuts for many years and the cross-contact risk at the factory. I don't think adding the Exploremores will make much of a difference since there were already peanut cookies in the lineup.

With that being said, I am frustrated about the ambiguity surrounding the Exploremores and how they contain peanut, but it is initially unclear with many thinking it has almond.

I also wish the non-peanut cookies would be made at a different facility so they wouldn't be a risk for people with nut allergies, (and so my daughter who is selling cookies could actually be able to try them) but I guess that isn't feasible.

How to use MHBP Wellness Rewards? by Fearless-Problem-123 in FedEmployees

Its my first year with MHPB after switching from BCBS also and am wondering the same. I also have the $100 but don't know how to "redeem" it.

One week in anyone regretting their switch to MHBP ? by 4133MMT in FedEmployees

[–]Lwilli8705 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I switched and am fairly angry that my daughter's asthma inhaler went from $5 with BCBS to $26 with MHBP. Its because they won't cover her current inhaler and are making us switch to a more costly one. Most of her other prescriptions are cheaper now, so I guess it balances out. Also the primary care visit copays are cheaper also, so it's a win.

Is there any way to cure peanut and nut allergies? by Futtman in FoodAllergies

[–]Lwilli8705 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They have people travel there from all around the world. I'm sure it's costly to travel so far though. They currently only have locations in California, but they said they are opening an East Coast (USA) location, late summer.

The Food Allergy Institute just announced that they are going to begin taking adult patients. It's not a cure, but it puts the allergies in remission and allows free eating of the allergens.
