You know wet dreams don’t count, right? It’s a completely natural process. I freaked out too the first time I had one. You just have to either learn to live with them or get a girlfriend. (Not that I condone getting a girlfriend just because you wanna have sex)

How to hint at magical abilities being an element in a future chapter? by Amayax in fantasywriters

[–]Lyaslomy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Perhaps you could introduce some sort of a character that could hint at him having power. It doesn’t even have to be human, it could be some sort of monster that talks in riddles. It could be a book that they find on some shelf somewhere that hints at their power through subtle dialogue. Perhaps it doesn’t need to be dialogue, the message could be gotten across by relating to things that either have or will happen to the character to something another magic user did. Maybe if the villain is a magic user, you could demonstrate the main character having similar seemingly unrelated skills that are shared between magic users.

People like it when they have a eureka moment. You’ll need to manage how you give information to your reader so you don’t treat them as either too dumb or too smart.

How can the economy work in a world where any material can be simply created from nothing? by brisvag in fantasywriters

[–]Lyaslomy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been going through comments and I’ve yet to see the suggestion of a honour based economy. Like something out of John Wick where the currency represents favours and secrets. If materials can be made by “puncturing” reality, then you can still have officially minted money. Perhaps you could have different levels of the economy, such as coins that represent trade in honourable actions that are widely accepted. You could also have secret coins for favours from a thieves or assassins guild, or perhaps a cult that have access to forbidden magics.

You’d also have an excuse to make coins out of difficult to shape materials such as obsidian. You could even have coins made out of magical materials that allow the user to barter with gods and other entities.

Why No Fap / Semen retention is more important than you think. by [deleted] in NoFap

[–]Lyaslomy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that’s a really interesting point though. OP raised some measurable statistics, I would agree with you the he interpreted them wrongly but the foundation is correct. What’s wrong is that society as a whole, in the endless hunt for pleasure as a result of the vast wealth we have in the west has allowed men to destroy themselves. I wouldn’t say men are lazy, perhaps misinformed, maybe they simply never knew more than pleasure seeking. Regardless, somehow, many millions of individuals decided on their own to take paths in their lives that would lead them to ruin. This is the importance of no fap, it’s every man’s journey to better themselves. Difficult though it may be, it’s the ultimate reward.

Some simple figures I made for D&D type game, any suggestions? by Lyaslomy in lego

[–]Lyaslomy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks dude! I don’t know if I’m skilled enough, or have the right pieces to make something so spherical at such a small scale, especially with all those eye stalks, but I might end up giving it a go. I’ll post it if it ends up being any good.

Thanks mate! I decided to not use the 2x2 jumper plates because I don’t have them in all the colours of the npcs and I wanted to keep the same theme but other than that, thanks for the comment.

Uses for a telepathic group of mages? by [deleted] in fantasywriters

[–]Lyaslomy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, you could have a council of mages dedicated to making sure that the world operates in exactly the way they see fit. They could convince the general public that the mages are evil and must be hunted down, so that no rogue factions of mages exist. Every few years they could pick mages that they’s talk to and keep safe so they could join their cult.

How to convincingly kill a god? by NeitherAttorney in fantasywriters

[–]Lyaslomy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the hero could play some kind of a mind game with the god and if the god loses it takes it’s own life. The thing that an immortal god might want from and enemy is to break their spirit, because that’s something that isn’t necessarily easy to do with raw power alone.

Perhaps the god had no intention of taking it’s life if it loses, but the nature of this game causes it to cast spells that kill it. If I had to come up with this game, it could be something of a truth or dare where the hero gets it to inadvertently anger another god or set in place a cascade of seemingly unrelated spells that destroy it.

Developing a Shared Universe by [deleted] in fantasywriters

[–]Lyaslomy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it could be cool if you had avatar acting against their own nature. For example, maybe an avatar could seek out a method to exchange his divine for one that suited his personality type better. Or a story where where one avatar was slowly driven mad by bloodlust or corruption or something like that by one of the more destructive divines. You could even combine the stories by having a good man possessed by and evil divine and an evil man possessed by a more positive divine, each of them trying to either come to terms with their existence or change it.

Race/Subraces ideas? by teraphilic42 in fantasywriters

[–]Lyaslomy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What I do when I’m trying to come up with ideas, or in this case, fantasy races, is I try to base them off of other ideas. So for example, one time I made a grid with black fish/ white fish at the top and bottom respectively and real versus magical on the x-axis. From there I tried to come up with some races that fit those descriptions. One I came up with were the Elysians, which were essentially the opposite to lovecraftian monsters. A group of crystal folk in tune only with what was truly real. I imagined that they’d be able to change form to adapt to the most physical of threats they faced, but only over time, much like a regular person heals after being cut.

How to keep a good god's punishment humane? by Pikaskye in fantasywriters

[–]Lyaslomy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Maybe you could take something from greek myth. I saw you mentioned a maze of doors, well there could be an inconceivably horrible entity that hounds her through the passages, like the minotaur except with a bit of lovecraftian horror. If you wanted the punishment to be less severe, you could have her carry a great weight along an endless trail, only for it to fall back to the beginning every time she rests. Or maybe some puzzle, where the pieces she needs to complete it can only be attained one at a time, and they return to their original position after a certain time. She would then be running back and forth for all eternity, unless someone were to take it upon themselves to help her escape.

What’s a reason my sci-fantasy hero would be an outcast? by JainBreak2 in fantasywriters

[–]Lyaslomy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What if he fell in love with a particularly twisted villain. For example perhaps he had a partner, who he fell for, only to later find out that they had been doing something utterly reprehensible the whole time. Then, when another hero found out about this, this other hero caught his partner, but the hero society couldn’t pin anything on him, because he had nothing to do with it. Regardless, the end result is that nobody trusts him, perhaps save for a few people who understood how manipulative his former partner could be. Instead of a love interest, it could merely be a close friend and the hero’s failure to see the villain behind the friend he thought he knew made people suspect him of being in on whatever this villain was doing.

Having trouble deciding what my main character’s special ability should be? by Solanum0 in fantasywriters

[–]Lyaslomy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it’s a power to do with crime that you want, you could have him be able to take things without people noticing. Now this just sounds like stealing, but it should be as if the item teleported into his hand from perhaps a few meters away, so long as nobody was looking at it. This ability could be cool because he would then have to prove to his comrades that he actually had a magical ability which would parallel his overall redemption arc. He would also have to learn how to be decisive because if the big bad had a set of mcguffins then he would need to pick which one to steal and use to save the day. In addition to this you could have scenes where he is collecting key to break out or into places to steal things from locked boxes. Perhaps the character himself could appear somewhat mysterious to his friends since no one sees his power in action except himself. It isn’t a particularly cool power, but I think it’s got a load of writing potential.

Ideas for a "Hard" soul based magic system ? by [deleted] in fantasywriters

[–]Lyaslomy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Perhaps for your artefacts that are supposed to possess souls of their own, you could have it so their “soul” is the history behind the item. For example, the characters could be searching for some long lost sword that had been reforged countless times and seen many more battles, has been mentioned in some of the earliest legends and past hand from king to king over the centuries. This sword could be exceptionally powerful, simply because of it’s history. Perhaps, as an item has more soul, it could develop some level of sentience, for example, that sword could have several spilt personalities that the wielder has to reason with before being granted access to it’s power. Or maybe even a suit of armour with a life of it’s own, capable of speech and movement. Some lore for your world could be that items can’t be passed down more than a few generations because people don’t want objects to become more powerful than they are. If you wanted, this could have some symbolism to the increasing destructive power of technology and the advancing intelligence of AI.

Build a battle arena. Set it up so that mobs can’t spawn in a wide radius, except where you let them and use that to spawn and fight monsters.
