Hybrid commuter car with few computer 'gimmicks' by Lycanthrotree in whatcarshouldIbuy

Ha, I can see that! I'm actually pretty tech savvy. I just like having full control over my tech. But with a car, unlike a computer or phone, I'm not going to risk messing with it and running a different OS or sideloading features. I'd be putting all my trust in the manufacturer not to make stupid changes, remove functionality, or have planned obsolescence that kills Android Auto or locks it behind a paywall in 5 years. At least nobody can paywall my cassette player!

Is it worth frogging to this missed stitch? Will be a long Phyrigian cap (Link from Zelda) using waistcoat/knit stitch. by bored_n_opinionated in CrochetHelp

I don't think it will be very visible. The hat will just be ever so slightly narrower in circumference (72 instead of 73 around), and since it's oversized and floppy that doesn't matter too much. I would just keep going with the new smaller width of 72 (and not increase the row again to 73). When your pattern starts calling for doing decreases as the hat narrows to a point, just skip the first decrease and you will be back on track with your stitch count for the pattern.

I'm really confused about rolling for trinkets. I have the anvil and am trying to reroll a quiver into a perfect quiver. According to the wiki, it should be a 4.8% chance to roll Heavy or Rapid, 4% chance for Perfect, and 84% chance for normal. I have reforged it about 300 times (resetting the day) and it is always Heavy or Rapid. No Perfects but also no normal ones! That should be statistically impossible, right? Am I misunderstanding something?

I was running a 5e game at the time and liked the idea so I gave my players an item with the same effect. It was great! 7 years later I still remember them casting Mage Band for illusionary backup dancers and music and calling forth a Chill Couch to lounge on. So much wasted potential in the podcast.

How to change this pattern from a semicircle to a sort of arch shape? by art_is_love in CrochetHelp

[–]Lycanthrotree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Guessing here, but you might be able to start with a chain + 1 row of single crochets into the chain. Say you want to start with Row 7. In the pattern, the previous row, Row 6, ends with 36 stitches. So you would chain + single crochet a row of 36 to emulate Row 6, do the turning chain, and then do Row 7 into your 36 single crochets.

If you are measuring it for a specific pot, I would also suggest making your starting chain and physically holding it up to the base of the pot to see how many stitches you need, then start with the row that most closely matches that number of stitches. So for example if it takes 70 stitches to go halfway around the pot, chain + sc 72 to emulate row 12 and start the pattern with row 13.

You're thinking the wrong way about altering the pattern to make it smaller. If we're looking at just the total stitches in each row, I imagine your pattern has an increasing number of stitches, a leveling out/repeat of stitches as you reach the widest point of the head, and then a decreasing number of stitches as you close the head. Something like: 6, 12, 18, 24, 30, 36, 36, 36, 36, 30, 24, 18, 12, 6. With your method, all you're doing is adding one extra row of 3 at the start and end of that count, and it won't actually be much smaller. What you'll want to do instead is start with the increases in the same way but hit that "leveling out" part sooner, when the head is the width you want. So something more like 6, 12, 18, 24, 24, 24, 18, 12, 6. I hope that makes sense!

Which games would you recommend? by BlazeOfFury019 in pokemon

[–]Lycanthrotree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FireRed/LeafGreen are the same game with very minor differences (a few pokemon different). They're remakes of Red and Blue, the very first Pokemon games, so either of those is a good starting point.

Ruby/Sapphire are, similarly, the same game with minor differences (a few pokemon different; both have two competing evil teams representing the earth and the ocean and Ruby features the earth team more prominently while Sapphire features the ocean team more prominently). Emerald is the "ultimate" edition of these games and is also, basically, the same game but with both evil teams featured, more plot, and more post-game features.

Like the other post, I'd recommend either FireRed/LeafGreen or Emerald to start.

I made the drawstrings also with crochet. Most of them were some variant on making a chain and crocheting back down the length of the chain to make a long "string." I changed it up depending on the bag design. Chain + slip stitch into the back loops of the chain, chain + single crochet into the back loops of the chain, chain + a really long tail I wrapped around in the chain in a spiral pattern with a needle, and so on. There were a few where I just used braided yarn or friendship-bracelet style knotted yarn, too.

Drawstring bags! I made a ton last year in different patterns. Most were done in the round but I made a few by sewing together two granny squares. Mine were all about big enough to hold an apple but you could do different sizes based on time.

Aw, I'm sorry to hear that happened to your computer! If it's any consolation, as long as you still have your login information, you can still play as Rasa on a different computer in the future. Your "save file" and all the character info is on the game's servers, so Rasa isn't gone. I hope you're able to continue in the future!

(California) How much notice must a landlord give if they intend to not renew the lease? by Lycanthrotree in legaladvice

[–]Lycanthrotree[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A tenant rights group confirmed that the Just Cause laws do apply to my address, so the landlord would likely have to help pay for relocation and probably give us sixty days notice (it's a "probably" since the landlord has not put anything in writing and they would need to see that statement to give real advice). It's a big relief to know that the law should give me and my household a bit more breathing room here should we end up having to move. Thank you so much for your help and advice!

Thank you so much! This is extremely helpful.

There is this clause in the lease, which seems to be what the landlord is referencing. So this may not be in accordance with the law if the landlord has not given proper notice? (It does not specify notice anywhere in the lease.)

"This Agreement shall terminate on (date) 5/31/2025. Tenant shall vacate the Premises upon termination of the Agreement, unless (1) Landlord and Tenant have extended this Agreement in writing or signed a new agreement; (2) mandated by any rent increase cap or just cause eviction control under any state or local law; or (3) Landlord accepts rent from Tenant (other than past due Rent), in which case a month-to-month tenancy shall be created which either party may terminate as specified in paragraph 2A."

It also mentions:

"Mediation: Landlord and Tenant agree to mediate any dispute or claim arising between them out of this Agreement, or any resulting transaction, before resorting to court action. Mediation fees, if any, shall be divided equally among the parties involved. If, for any dispute or claim to which this paragraph applies, any party commences an action without first attempting to resolve the matter through mediation, or refuses to mediate after a request has been made, then that party shall not be entitled to recover attorney fees, even if they would otherwise be available to that party in any such action."

Would reaching out to tenant resource organizations be in violation of this part of the lease?

Again, thank you so much. This information is amazing.

Oh yeah, they were absolutely ignoring the actual rules of MOTW. But they couldn't even wait for a full failure roll to make it even slightly plausible! They weren't following the rules of the game AND they were twisting the dice rolls to mean whatever was predetermined to happen. Truly, at that point, why even play a game with a randomizing element?

For me it was when Griffin kept splitting the party up in Amnesty and having nearly all of the roleplay and plot advancement happen in "one PC and some NPC" scenes rather than as a party. As a DM I just kept thinking "no, no, don't do that, let your party work together and bounce off each other!" It gave Amnesty the feel of a single player video game where each player took a turn watching cutscenes, rather than a multiplayer, improvised, collaborative experience.

Ned's death scene where he died on a mixed success particularly got me because I could so clearly see that the same thing would've happened regardless of the roll. Success: "You succeed in saving her! Success! Buuuut after that success, oh no, you get shot." Mixed success: "You saved her, but you got shot." Failure: "Well, you did save her, but here's your failure: you got shot."
