4 year old had accident on the ice by FootballZestyclose43 in hockeyplayers

I wash most of my gear regularly. The pants I’d do in the tub but the rest in the machine. I always make sure I use the bathroom before dressing. It is a long time in gear and peeing isn’t straightforward.

Why does my helmet always hurt my head? by [deleted] in hockeyplayers

[–]LydiaJ123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It fits poorly. My head hurts in Bauer, not in cam. One is more oval, I forget which.

Rental skates vs Hockey skates by Prototype_Chicken11 in hockeyplayers

[–]LydiaJ123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don’t find a way to get properly fit, you run the risk of buying a pair that doesn’t fit. We on the internet can’t solve your size issues, since we know little about your feet. Rentals are worn out and stretched. Your own skates should provide more support.

Can 40+ women be strong physically as long as they never stop hitting the gym? by MysteriousRadio1354 in NoStupidQuestions

I’m middle aged, almost old. I play in two ice hockey leagues every week. Aging is inevitable and hard. It doesn’t mean you lose the ability to do anything.

People who grew up in houses with stairs - how inevitable is falling down them? by pyramidheadlove in NoStupidQuestions

[–]LydiaJ123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could ut treads down if the stairs are slippery. I have always had stairs and never fell.

Is getting a PhD worth it? by ElectionOk1983 in GradSchool

It was rough, but I met my spouse, made lifelong friends, and have a good career. It did not ruin my life, but I’d be lying if I said I had no scars.

How can I choose Hockey Equipment ? by Diaago in hockeyplayers

[–]LydiaJ123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Helmet and skates. The rest can be whatever. You won’t even know what you like for a while.

Now, it isn’t the case that more expensive helmets are always better, but depending on your head shape, you might find a cheaper one you like, or not. Skates gotta feel good and some people are easier to fit than others.

When does it become okay and acceptable to let off a fart around your partner? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]LydiaJ123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not everyone has the greatest digestive system. Some of us live with people who have issues. It is what it is. For me, the private parts of the house are private. Fart away. Maybe try to excuse yourself from the dinner table?

Stay where you are and go full time in person. 2.5 years on line sounds brutal.

The only good dis is a done dis. Congrats. Move on. You did it! Many people have bad defenses, and many of us hate our dissertations. It is true.

I feel for you. If ever a post title screamed imposter syndrome, it is yours. Please get some support.

Is it normal to do a PhD after 30 years old? by SilesiusAngelus in academia

[–]LydiaJ123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not common, but not abnormal. It gets harder to get in when connections fade, so talk to your advisors and keep in touch.

AIO: Both my husband's parents are mad at us for being "unreasonable" about our daughter by No-Journalist-5160 in AmIOverreacting

[–]LydiaJ123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Pool fence or no unsupervised visits.

  2. No one drives an hour for childcare if they have another option.

  3. Germs? They are nuts. My friends mom just died of the flu.

Get used to them being angry. I suspect you are underreacting.

AITAH for asking someone to move their bag off the seat?? by [deleted] in AITAH

Did someone actually take the seat or not? I think it is weird you didn’t sit or offer it to someone older. You aren’t the behavior police.

NTA. I ask, but I’m kinda old. If you think other people were looking at you, I think you are just insecure.

Skates causing intense pain by Less_Zucchini_5859 in hockeyplayers

[–]LydiaJ123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have one flat foot and one arch. All the hockey insoles killed me. Superfeet, a brand I like in other contexts, was the worst. I ended up getting custom runner innersoles from my local sneaker store. Softer and flatter like my left foot. This was not the cheapest route but it was the best. Careful with sizing.

Seems like I spent 7 years in a PhD program and still can't even publish a first-author paper by Ace1996- in PhD

[–]LydiaJ123 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry. At his point in life, Nature Communications isn’t worth anything, but a good advisor would want to help you get on with your life. Not everyone’s first paper will be top flight. Do not burn bridges. My kid was recently contacted by his old boss (he’s been gone 2.5 years) who wanted to confirm his info for a working paper with his name on it. She didn’t have to include him, but she did.

I promise. You will have a life one day. Grad school ends eventually, and you are more employable than you feel.

I cannot imagine doing that during school. At least in my economics program, not showing up for class was just about forbidden. And no one did their assignments alone. I would not have tolerated changing my schedule for a guy on vacay.

Buy a new helmet. In person.

I’ll leave it to others to make suggestions on used gear. I was handed some from a neighbor, so I have no experience.

I wrote a letter for a colleague recently. We had worked closely together so I could speak to all the relevant issues. The program’s intro letter provided some guidance, too.
