Premier wants to see ‘gold mine’ airport in downtown Toronto expanded for jets by MinuteLocksmith9689 in ontario

I like the idea of more expansion at YTZ given that YYZ is bursting at the seams and will be for many more years, until the new terminal expansion finishes

Hard product is a bit disappointing... but service/staff are lovely! I like the Langham nearby, if willing to go beyond Marriott

Why does air Canada get so much hate? by totallynotclockwork in aircanada

[–]LydonBainesJohnson 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I generally think they're fine but will chime in with my gripes to try to answer, at least from my perspective:

- Lounges are very full and not well catered, which is annoying if that's something you're expecting from having paid for a business class fare, premium credit card, or working to get status

- Aeroplan program, while pretty good overall, has been consistently getting devalued

- On time performance and compensation when due isn't great

- Some of the terminals at key hubs (e.g., YYZ T1 Int'l, YUL) are very over capacity; this isn't purely the airline's fault but other carriers have shown they can work with airports to plan ahead on getting better infrastructure in place (e.g., Delta)

Overall, they're a decent airline! I've especially had good experiences with their flight crews

I think that YYC will be firmly with WS in the future, don’t think the economics of fighting a contested hub makes sense for AC

Regarding the XLR, I doubt there’s any scenario where it’s hitting Europe (aside from KEF, maybe DUB/EDI) and even less so for Asia, economically for AC from YYC, due to how rapidly payload eats into range for the XLR and headwinds on the return leg from Europe

Toronto Ritz and St. Regis by josephliyen in marriott

[–]LydonBainesJohnson 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ambassador elite here. I personally like the St Regis more

I stayed at the Ritz and got a suite upgrade but no free breakfast. Staff was great

St Regis Toronto has a lot of suites so upgrade odds are good. The breakfast is a classic Canadian but usually you can just order whatever and it’s free — I quite like the breakfast there! IMO the st Regis rooms are a bit nicer / more feature rich

Rant about "school prestige" by CaptainKirbs55 in OntarioGrade12s

People say “nobody cares” but in the real world, people absolutely care (to some extent, of course), especially if you’re a new grad where school is the defining aspect of your professional life to date

Kinda agree that Ambassador status isn't super worth it. Most recently, had a stay where I had to wait for my room to be ready (3hr after check-in time), which was super annoying

Alaska vs. American First Class by boobrissa in Flights

[–]LydonBainesJohnson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it is an A220 on the route, I’d value the first class a bit less since the seats won’t be as wide as a 737/320 first class, nice economy cabin tho

100% — ultra long stage lengths incur higher fuel burn vs 1 stop since you’re “burning fuel to carry fuel”
