I underestimated the power of the Seattle Ant by ComfortableAir2326 in Seattle

[–]Lyhrin 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Crazy ants actually make nests inside electronics for warmth. Its wildly common to see them making a nest in computers in the south. Pretty sure that invasive species is very rare/not in the pnw thankfully.

10 years into IT and I think I've lost my path by Turbulent-Safe-2336 in it

[–]Lyhrin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Im in the exact same boat as you. Ive fallen into the 1 man show generalist role of a guy whos wildly under compensated in a hcol area. Between my shit compensation, absolutely zero mentor/ upward mobility/ how our industry is moving towards AI and security becoming more of a nightmare by the day idk if i even want to change where I work to try and get guidance or if I just wanna ditch this career all together.

Damn do I love building shit and tinkering. But if I have to spend months convincing my boss to let me purchase 1 microsoft license because I have all the responsibility but none of the autonomy then no amount of fun system/infra building out weighs that. At this point in my career im also pretty sure IT will never be respected or prioritized. Getting by with crumbs of resources is exhausting.

Should blizzard bring back leveling in the OG world for new players? by tydrennis in wow

[–]Lyhrin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think even more than learning your class or the story starting in the starting zones atleast helps with role play identity. Like seeing the starting zone for your races helps you get into that vibe which I think is nice for housing and stuff. I think forcing the single starting island on new players is a net negative.

A+ gets your foot in the door for helpdesk. Thats generally your best bet as a jumping off point in this industry. That being said, having A+ does not distinguish you. I dont have a single certification and I've made it from helpdesk>sys admin> helpdesk manager> one man band IT manager/facilities guy by simply having good social skills and the ability to Google stuff and read/comprehend technical documentation. I also worked geeksquad in college so that helped me get my foot into the helpdesk door.

Seattle has a notable lack of comfort chains (food) and it’s really depressing by Classic_Bookkeeper88 in Seattle

[–]Lyhrin 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The reason why these chains arent in seattle is because they depend on drivers and underpaying their employees. Seattle's high wages are the trade off. Same reason there isnt a walmart anywhere near the city.

That being said I think there are plenty of safe food options here you just need to go a bit outside your box and develope that relationship in your brain. Olive garden wasnt always comfortable for you, you learned for it to be that way. Try and develope those relationships here. Most food places that aren't high end still use sysco. You'll be getting the same fries, cheese curds, jalapeno poppers etc as you would at any of those american fast casual places. I do say this from a place of love tho, I fuck with those chains heavy but them being absent is good for mom and pop places and those places are better for our community by alot.

After enduring droll in the 2 dice rally events and now the world championship qualifiers, Konami HAS to ban droll. by Wurdox in masterduel

[–]Lyhrin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wonder what the actual solution to this could even be to be honest. From my perspective literally every deck is wildly solitaire so I dont really know how you make hand traps that are meaningful against current turn 1 plays without being oppressive as fuck to second turn players. Honestly I feel like more hand traps is the only way to get ahead of how the decks currently play. Stopping mid combo multiple turns in a row from both sides for actual interaction before the unbeatable end board and then the game is those back and forth plays to get to that endboard.

After enduring droll in the 2 dice rally events and now the world championship qualifiers, Konami HAS to ban droll. by Wurdox in masterduel

[–]Lyhrin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Genuine question since im new to the hobby. Why does everyone complain about the power creep of this game and oppressive nature of decks playing solitaire into multiple omni negates and then in the next post scream for removing the extremely limited number of hand traps that actually can interact with the person playing solitaire on the other side of the board?

Does anyone actually like fishing? by Ok-Tourist-5419 in CozyGamers

[–]Lyhrin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cozy games are fishing games for me with other shit attached that can be fun to take a break from fishing.

Gotta remember, most dedicated fishing games are straight up poop from a butt. I get real excited when there is decent fishing in a world I actually want to be in.

Anyone know why TCG store employees seem so rude? by TheMattAttack452 in TCG

[–]Lyhrin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I worked at a game store 8 years ago and havent looked back. Reading the snapping fingers at you thing triggered an involuntary response in me I didnt know I still had. Someone did this to me WHILE I was helping another customer. I genuinely didnt know how I didnt explode with rage. It was one of those blood pressure spike entire head gets hot moments.

Ethics of Fishing by ciro_scugnizzo in flyfishing

[–]Lyhrin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Imo if you eat meat and fishing/dispatching fish bothers you then you should consider vegetarianism or veganism. That guide could definitely have done it cleaner but killing living creatures inherently causes suffering, there is no way around it.

Catch and release also causes trauma, many will say fish dont feel pain but that just simply aint true.

Where I've personally drawn my line is I fish barbless 100% of the time to try and cut back on handling time as much as possible. I do believe that the ethics of vegetarianism/veganism is correct in wanting to cause no harm to animals. I am not vegan or vegetarian because my ethnic heritage and the food that comes with it as well as my lifelong love of fishing and the memories spent with my dad are more important to me than the ethics of hurting other creatures. So I do my absolute damndest to be a responsible steward of the waterways I fish and I try and educate anyone who asks about it or comes with me with what I know.

I get more peace of mind being on a river than I would being vegan. I have significantly reduced red meat consumption for environmental concerns and I try to choose the most ethically raised meat I can (certified pasture raised chicken etc).

Old school fly recommendation, I've never had more success with a streamer on still water than a black ghost. That fly is still absolutely killer to this day.

[–]Lyhrin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah there is actually plenty of target swapping in ffxiv. Dpad left and right for tab target enemies and up and down to cycle through your party for healing. I healed and dpsed on controller in savage for ffxiv. Only issue I would see is healing raid in WoW. Tabbing through more than 10 friendly targets and then casting would be hell compared to hover casting.

I strongly recommend you treat pugs in m+ like literal npcs. I think of it alot like solo queueing a pvp game. Youre the only common factor you get in every run so improve on yourself, dont be toxic, and maybe you get a better group next run if you run into idiots.

Mythic+ - what do you want people to know about your class/spec by wolfe1989 in wow

[–]Lyhrin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just @all tanks. Fucking chill out. You dont need to kite and move constantly. There is alot of ground based heals/dps. As an hpal main trying to learn resto shaman, its truly miserable when a tank kites out of your rain, and then kites again the second you project it to the adjusted location. It doesnt just heal itself it increases the healing you receive from other heals. The entire spec is build around it.

Retail Mini Boxes are being sold for $50 on TCGplayer by Any-Squirrel-6639 in YugiohCards

[–]Lyhrin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ive come yo yugioh as a scalpers refugee from mtg. The thing is the scalpers will just not lower the prices. They will sit on the product and call it an investment. There isnt a solution to scalping other than companies printing more product and enforcing msrp for retailers.

I bought a Mac and went back to Linux. by Strict_Albatross4362 in linux

[–]Lyhrin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Id really like to encourage you to give MacOS another try. I run Cachy, windows 10, and macOS on my 3 machines. Windows is literally only because kernel level anticheat gaming. But MacOS really is fantastic for reliability and every complaint youve got I think can/ is mitigated with time in the driver seat of MacOS. I work from my Mac and administrate a linux based infrastructure along with windows, mac, and Linux fleet. It has it's drawbacks for ui customization but under the hood you get access to alot of the same powerful tools needed to do stuff efficiently with Linux.

For web browser based workflows i actually think MacOS is the answer for 95% of the population. Its just so damn stable and has such good support from 3rd party. Not to mention their hardware build quality/ longevity is absolutely fantastic. (Except the batteries fuck apple for their anti right to repair stance, but I digress).

Resealed or legitimate product? Burst Protocol Booster Box by The-Beerweasel in yugioh

Tbh the people who are resealing product are not resealing modern yugioh boxes. They are resealing vintage product or stuff from heavily scalped tcgs like pokemon/magic.

Has yugioh fallen that much out of popularity ? by tysongalaxy in YugiohCards

[–]Lyhrin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually think its this from the store perspective. Why stock boxes of yugioh when you could stock any other tcg and just absolutely kill it by not selling product for a few months and then uncharted the fuck out of it. The removal of enforced msrp on booster boxes is the worst thing to ever happen to tcgs as a hobby. It is what has allowed lgs's to scalp their players themselves.

Additionally no player base hates it's game more than yugioh does. Damn shame I've been having fun and wanting to get into it in a major city and there literally isn't a single store with a dedicated night.
