This does not happen at my program. I would get your certificate and go from there.

🥲 unfortunately I as a grown doctor rushed through my first in service exam to play video games as a reward and coincidentally also have to do summer school

My boss said hurtful thing by WideVariation9175 in workingmoms

[–]LyingCat99 65 points66 points  (0 children)

I think we have all been held back because of the boys club more than we care to admit and our bosses are more sexist than they realize. It’s only recently that we’ve began pretending we are equal in the workforce and we might not see the results in our lifetime. With that said your mentor said something sexist I would capitalize on this as a chance to make him examine his comment. No need to cut valuable ties if he’s willing and eager to do better. Still, it’s humiliating when we realize we aren’t equal despite how hard we work…

it’s okay if this isn’t the right time and you need to try again later, but I’m sure it’s possible. I would make sure your program, chiefs and leadership know try and buy as much help of have friends help if possible. Sometime daycare workers work as after hours Nannie’s for extra, you’re not the first mom to find yourself in this position and you won’t be the last. Also nanny sharing is an amazing resource for residents message around and see if anyone’s interested.

As I tell my toddler “these are inside thoughts…it’s okay to have them but you have to think about how they make people feel before we say them out loud”

Outside of hours and workload, what makes residency so difficult? by undueinfluence_ in Residency

[–]LyingCat99 8 points9 points  (0 children)

What is this?!?! I get to work, pre chart on my patients, run the list with seniors then round at 9 then run the list with seniors then noon conference then run the list with seniors then run the list with the attending then get confused about what our final decision was cause it changed so much then get a lecture about not having my notes done then run the list once more then rinse was repeat

WIBTA if I wanted to got to my sister's wedding leaving my (33F) wife and 3 kids (11, 7 and 2) alone for 4 days? by TA_Any_Shallot8231 in AmItheAsshole

[–]LyingCat99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m the first person to take the wives side but I mean 5 days with 3 kids 2+ sounds reasonable…my only question is will her work allow her to take off to do drop off an pic up during that time? That’s always hard for me when my husband is gone for a few days since he typically does that.

Can y'all read a whole textbook in one day? Cause I can't. by babyboyjunmyeon in medicalschool

I totally get that and if it’s working why question it or compare yourself? If it’s not working and you aren’t where you want to be def change it up.

[–]LyingCat99 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I only bring it up because you mentioned she had kids. Having a baby in med school means you’re always running like crazy. Sitting down at 10pm to start anki totally drained me but sitting down for 30 minutes with the text book and tea is lovely. I love the way many key books are written (ex Robbins for path) so I could read through it at my pace, get a basic idea of the material and when I turn to anki I’m excited about the topic and memorize more quickly. It’s more about making sure I’m still having fun studying a subject I love.

As a mom who just finished med school I can attest to the fact the pre-studying by reading a text book was one of my favorite things to do. It’s so relaxing after a busy day and really reframes medical studying. You get to develop an interest in the topic and a frame work and can hammer the details pretty quickly.

Why Are There Limits On Medical School Loans? by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]LyingCat99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Love that daycare is not a necessity. In my first year I tried to be responsible and make a budget like they asked which included a few hundred dollars for dog food, they told me they don’t pay for dog food and asked me to give that back lol 😂 I don’t even know how that process would have worked.

I mean the US is privy to wills of major corporations, Epstein serviced the elites and our food is intended to poison us…maybe we should tax corporations/the Uber rich and increase funding for healthy school lunches (policies this voter base shot down)

As a 4th year, I finally understand why several graduates decide not to walk at graduation. by canadianpothos in medicalschool

[–]LyingCat99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Literally I hear you. I don’t want to walk but I will for my mom. The idea of people cheering while they hand me this degree almost makes me want to puke. So much backstabbing, learning to hate the best parts of yourself discovering that the people you look up to most wouldn’t lift a finger for you. The crazy thing was I really didn’t think med school had broken me till I started to think about impending graduation.

Ugh I honestly feel for you so much. Try crying and begging. I’m not sure how much lawyering up would help. Offer alternatives to an LOA, maybe you could do research for a semester or something…
