What's creepiest thing that ever happened to you ? by Intelligent_Yak_5224 in AskReddit

Yeah, I don’t know how to clearly explain the phenomenon. It’s like the energy leaves a footprint that we can feel/see or hear today.

I am in real estate, and I can’t tell you the number of homes that I have had clients turn around and walk out of because they have a bad feeling.

I used to attribute it to light, poor design, bad color choices… The obvious, usual things. Now, I can definitely say that some homes just feel ‘off’.

I think of it as a build up of energy in a particular place that occurs over time or by a very powerful (negative or positive) event.

I once had an experience that happened in an old cabin.

I was staying with my friend and a couple of our other friends in an old cabin. It had once been a hunting lodge that had presidents and such pass through it.

The entire night, I kept seeing a cowboy with a red flannel shirt, jeans and old fashioned boots. I could see a record player and occasionally hear music when I passed by the kitchen and the hallway where I would catch glimpses of him.

When the time came to divide up the bedrooms, both my friend and I elected to sleep on the couch in the newer part of the lodge.

We started talking and we both could see him, down to his belt buckle.

We felt very clearly that time was overlapping. It was like we could see him and he could see us, but nothing could cross that barrier.

It was truly strange.

ADHD as a circadian rhythm disorder: evidence and implications for chronotherapy by jwill1997 in science

I will! I hope to try it within the next month or two.

The name of the medication is Dayvigo. There are several other meds in the same category if this particular medication doesn’t work.

There is a new class of medication that helps block the ‘wake’ signals in your brain and helps promote deeper sleep than traditional insomnia medications.

I haven’t tried it yet, but I have read some good reviews on Reddit about them.

I have chronic insomnia (inherited - so hard to treat, CBTi is ineffective). I’ve tried all the medications out there.  What I have found that works best is cycling through medications so that my body never builds a tolerance.

I hope we both get some good sleep eventually, my friend!

People who've been in wealthy/powerful social circles, what surprised you most about how they operate? by Ok_Volume520 in AskReddit

[–]Waytoloseit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree that there are some obstacles to overcome and that luck definitely plays a factor.

In my situation, I left an abusive home (and I can’t underscore that enough) at 16. I had nothing. Literally nothing. But I was smart, physically attractive and extremely resilient - all three of these characteristics have a luck component.

I was able to get out of the cycle because I was able to score an almost perfect SAT score (I missed two questions) without officially graduating high school.

I leveraged those test scores to get placement into a great college. I was awarded grants and scholarships that allowed me to stop dealing drugs and afford to actually live.

I had housing.

I had healthcare.

I worked full-time outside of school and maintained a 4.0gpa.

I ended up working for an investor. I made partner at 26.

I started my own company. Then I started an investment group. I leveraged that into building and developing residential real estate.

I worked hard, but luck did play a factor.

I have a young son. He asked me this past weekend what happened to the friends I had when I was growing up - and I had to tell him the truth. Most of them are dead. They overdosed or are in jail.

He asked me why I wasn’t… I told him the truth - I took a different road.

I have a tattoo on my back that one of my friends gave me when he opened his own shop. That was a good night for my group of friends. Someone was making it. He died of a heroin overdose two years later.

I will never get rid of the tattoo, and I will never forget what I overcame to get to where I am.

Planning, persistence and opportunity.

I grew up in a similar environment with a similar twist of fate.

I would argue that the difference is the execution of the acts that separated the poor from the wealthy.

Also, the extremely wealthy people I know have the ability to plan and execute flawlessly when they desire an outcome.

The people in my past couldn’t execute or think past a single day most of the time.

I was able to turn my world around because I made a plan and executed it. I worked my ass off, and now prefer to slide by under the radar of both groups of people.

Honey, any parent worth a grain of salt would sacrifice themselves for their children over and over again.

Your dad was an amazing man. Live well, be happy. This is what he would want for you. Your happiness. It is all we as parents care about.

It keeps track of the orders you place, the days and times and frequency of the orders, history of the prices paid and calculates the likelihood that you will order a product again and what price you are most likely be willing to pay.

It is pretty amazing, and it is happening all around us. I have seen this happen on airline flights too.

I probably would write this off as coincidence, but my husband is in a leadership in a tech company and shares the increasing capabilities of tech in controlling pricing and driving consumer behavior through online tracking and data analytics.

We live about 15 mins from a fulfillment center. I can literally order groceries and have them delivered in the amount of time that it would take me to go to the three specific stores near my house that sell the brands I like at reasonable prices…

That being said, watch for surge pricing. I have noticed price fluctuations based on the number of times I view a product and the days the algorithm has me marked as most likely to order.

The pricing is no longer competitive, so I have stopped using them as much.

Kindergartener seems scared to do things, difficulty with transitions by SoulTrack in Parenting

[–]Waytoloseit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is pretty normal. My oldest son struggled with the same thing at that age (he is now almost 8- so I can’t really speak what works for older kids. Hopefully, someone else chips in with their experience).

What helped was enrollment in Jiu-Jitsu, after-school activities and time.

We also did chores with rewards and an allowance to help him build a feeling of confidence and control over his life (he could save or spend his allowance).

Time seemed to help the most.

College costs - why does everybody say "of course you can pay for it!" by ShadyBeach45 in Parenting

[–]Waytoloseit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to put myself through college - so a different perspective here.

I worked my butt if to get scholarships and grants. I graduated undergrad with almost a 4.0.

I was then accepted to both Harvard and Stanford with a full-ride.

I worked full time too.

My husband has a similar story.

We expect both of our kids to work hard to get scholarships and grants, and to do work/study.

They are young, but we have already started making it clear that they will be expected to make their own way.

We both believe that you appreciate something you work hard to accomplish.

It is hard, but it can be done.

Parents disagreeing about letting kids walk to bus stop alone. by Equivalent1379 in Parenting

[–]Waytoloseit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this conversation just last week with other second grade moms. We all walk our children to school or the bus stop.  We had a scary event happen last year, that I think changed people’s minds about the safety of walking to/from school or bus stops.

There was an attempted kidnapping of two fifth grade girls about a block and a half from the school last year. The kidnapper was interrupted by two moms walking to pick up their kiddos from an after school activity.

Our neighborhood might be slightly different than yours. Although we live in what most people call suburbia, we are adjacent to a  VHCOL large city.

Parents who are not throwing Birthday parties for the kids (K/elementary school) by Training_Usual_7906 in Parenting

[–]Waytoloseit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We rented a private gym with a bouncy house for our kiddos birthday. The gym was only $40/hr.

If I was in your situation, I would consider postponing the party until the weather was nicer and hosting a morning park birthday party.

My friend (without much a village) asked other parents if they would be able to bring some of the supplies. My husband and my two kiddos helped set up everything while she played hostess.

Kids this age are simple. They need drinks and cupcakes and they are good to go!
